Johan Santana - Twins 4-6-04 game comments
DBAHO replied to WHarris1's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Young, who cares. Tiggies were neva goin to challenge anyway. This will only make I-rod want to leave sooner. Santana now this is sumthin to definitely keep an eye on. They are counting on him to be their #1 or 2 starter this year, and he did hav injury problems last year. They are already missing Mays and Helling, they can't afford to lose another starter. -
But it's like 8 in da mornin.

THE first 10 commandments were written by the finger of God and handed to Moses on Mt Sinai, the 11th has been sent to the Methodist Church in Britain by text message from a pub. The church announced the new commandment - "Thou shalt not worship false pop idols" - today after holding a contest in the country's pubs aimed at sparking an ethical debate among young people. The church, together with Christian website shipoffools.com, left details of the competition on beer mats in pubs around the nation, inviting drinkers to text suggestions for an 11th commandment. "The idea was to get people, especially those in their 20s and 30s, thinking about the commandments and to prompt a debate about ethics," said Simon Jenkins, editor of shipoffools.com, who sifted through the 2000 entries. "By using beer mats, the Methodist Church hoped to connect with a group it doesn't usually reach and it was a brave and bold move. "In fact, with most of the entries it was as if you could hear the clinking of glasses in the background." The church, which drew some criticism when it joined with the cult religious website for the competition, said it planned to publish a book of the best entries. The top five submissions for a new commandment were rounded out by "Thou shalt not kill in the name of any God", "Thou shalt not confuse text with love", "Thou shalt not be negative" and "Thou shalt not consume thine own bodyweight in fudge." Other suggestions included "Thou shalt not dance like your dad", "Thou shalt not dump your lover by text" and, aptly for the competition's setting and mode of entry, "Thou shalt not hold loud conversations on thy mobile phone in a public place".

RATHER than facing the trauma of turning a year older, Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen has marked his birthday by declaring himself a year and four months younger, a report said. The Premier told an audience attending a school building opening that according to official documents he should have turned 53 on Sunday, the Cambodia Daily reported. "It is not my real birthday, April 4, 1951... My true birthday was August 5, 1952," he was quoted as saying, adding that he had forgotten his real birth date and misreported it when he became a soldier in 1970. Southeast Asia's longest serving leader reportedly said he never celebrated his or his family's birthdays to "save money and time". Hun Sen is not the only one with such a problem in Cambodia, where the civil registry is in disarray after nearly three decades of conflict and lists just five percent of all Cambodians. A campaign to list the kingdom's population of more than 12 million people on the registry was launched last month.

A JAPANESE restaurant which served sushi on the body of a near naked woman has caused a storm of controversy in the conservative southwest Chinese city of Kunming. The Hefengcun Huaishi restaurant launched a promotional 'feast on a beauty's body', for local journalists last Friday, hiring two attractive fair-skinned college girls to lie on tables, with sushi and other food and flowers placed on their bare bodies covered with thin gauze, restaurant employees told AFP. The reports caused a firestorm in the local and national press with many readers slamming the novel dining trend as offensive and insulting to women. "This is a form of disrespect towards women. I don't know how anyone can eat such type of food," a local resident was quoted by the Beijing Star Daily saying. Li Ailing, manager of the Japanese-owned restaurant, told AFP the restaurant received hundreds of phone calls, with many protesting the restaurant's bare cheek. "We didn't think the reaction would be so explosive, so controversial," Li said. "The purpose of this promotion is not commercial, but to spread Japanese culture." She blamed the reaction on Kunming people's conservative attitudes, but said the restaurant also had many supporters after reports came out. "We had lots of people who supported us and wanted to make reservations, including people from Hong Kong and Taiwan," Li told AFP. Known as "Nyotai Mori" in Japan, the feasts date back to ancient times and are often offered in special hotspring resorts today, but are generally left off menus. They are offered to aficionados on request. Restaurants as far afield as Seattle and Manchester have also offered sushi in the raw and drawn similar protests from women's activists. Li said the Kunming restaurant was planning to charge 1000 yuan ($US120) per person, far lower than the 10,000 yuan cost in Japan. The restaurant had also protected the girl's modesty by covering their breasts and genitals with seashells, and laying gauze over the rest of the exposed flesh, and getting waitresses to serve customers rather than allowing them to touch the girls, Li added. "We also put the food on leaves and leaves on the body. We don't put the food right on the body," she said. Kunming residents, however, lost their appetite. Some urged the government to take action, the Beijing paper said. But the restaurant has not lost hope. "Currently, Kunming people may not be able to accept this, but over time, maybe they can," Li said.
