Okay, who voted less than 54? That would make for a great pick, but even the 2012 Cubs won 61 games.

POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017
Bananarchy replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) Made a deal with the devil. Going to work at 3am Monday, I work till 11. So me and my family can attend the game. Our first opening day. Good luck, sir! -
This thread is a huge case for a like-dislike button. So much good on this thread. The understanding is fairly universal. Except Greg, which only reinforces we're on the right track.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) I wish we had Caray and Piersall to get us through this rebuild. I'm not gonna lie: I'm really happy with Jason and Stoney
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) Sox should be a .500 in 2018 and a contender by 2019. If not, they'll probably suck for another decade. Those are the two options? Stick to fireworks, dude.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) Pretty impressive given how many questions we all had in October. They are the best team in the West but playoff hockey is a b****. Should be fun. Think about how far back they were in January. Jeez

QUOTE (Donaldo @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Greg sounds like many Cub fans did 4 or 5 years ago and guess what??? they all came back. Sometimes you've got to go through hell before you get to heaven. I endured the rebuild of the late 80s, and I was rewarded for it. My health keeps me from attending games, but I will be watching them on TV (as I always do). And I don't think it's reasonable for us to expect the White Sox to suddenly become the Cubs organization. They did a lot of things right and spent a lot of money, but wouldn't you rather be the Astros right now? But yeah, greg is a contrarian and we're all aware his opinions never make any sense.

QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 05:32 PM) This is as happy I've been as a Sox fan for probably the last 4 seasons?? And before Greg comes in with his bulls***, no one is happy they are going to be bad. It's about using just a tad of intellect, understanding the path they were on was NOT working and they finally seem to have a plan with a long term objective in mind. Let's not kid ourselves, aside from a fun April in 2016, we haven't seen a lot of quality baseball on the South Side in a while. This is going to be worse, but it's not like they are coming off a 95 win season. At least now they are trying to lose, and it's for a purpose. Well said. It's simple. If the Sox are going to be bad, I'd rather they be bad while developing young talent like Anderson and Moncada instead of whatever the last ten-ish seasons have been.
-
I, like everyone here not named greg, will be wearing my White Sox apparel with pride because it's who I am. If someone wants to talk about how bad they are, that's fine. I might get frustrated myself, but trust me, if it weren't for my job and my family, I would be a season ticket holder right now. But please, greg. I'll say it again. Stay away. It took a lot of us a very long time to accept that the rebuild is the best thing for this organization. We don't really need you whining and crying about how bad the team is. We know it's bad. We have a solid GM who is watching the same thing we are.

The best album I have heard in a while is "Hot Thoughts" by Spoon. Saw them live at SXSW. Second time. Guys are amazing.

Hawks have won the Central and the West. They have won the Central three times since Kane and Toews and the first two times (2009-2010, 2012-2013) we know what happened.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) I think you guys have been fooled. Again, if Moncada is coming up in May, what's that all about? Are we rebuilding or not? So a team with him on it is going to suck for 3-4 years? That makes little sense if he's truly a star. Javier Baez played for the Cubs mid rebuild. Still waiting on you to bail.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Don't think he's going to be a top 3 pick though. Same with Baker. Did you read the OPS and OBP numbers? QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) You can't call me out IF I stay a fan during the horrific rebuild. Now if I do leave and come back, then I deserve to be called out. My fear is prolonged 20 years of last place starting now. There are no guarantees in this "rebuild." This organization is unlikely to have 20 years of losing seasons. Ownership won't be in control that long. Odds are there will be plenty of success. I won't call you out if you leave during a rebuild. Just promise you won't come back.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) I'll be there. They finally picked a lane. This is the absolute correct course of action. I'll go my usual 10-15 times. And they have the cheapest tickets in the league. And as young guys come up, the game will get exciting again. As usual, greg doesn't understand, but ask a Cub or Astro fan if their patience was worth it. I believe you will be rewarded for your loyalty.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Sox just dropped a fly ball. Yeah they are ready for the season. How in the world can fans fill the Cell for Opening Day if they know anything about this team? If I still lived in Chicago, I would go. The fans that know what is going on know this is what the White Sox need to do. Finally, they deserve our support.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Moncada won't be up this season. That would be ridiculous if you are trying to lose 110 games. If he's ready for the bigs, then there's no reason we should be doing a rebuild, we should be tinkering and try to win if he's gonna be on the big league team from May on. If he's a major league player, there's no reason to leave him in the minors after May.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) I picked 55 to 59 wins. The offense projects to be so bad I'd suggest our road record will be horrific. The starting pitching is not good so we'll lose our share of games very early. And our bullpen reeks so we'll blow 1/3 to 2/3 of the games we lead late. I think it's gonna be one of the worst teams the Sox have ever had. We'll know very early there is no hope of .500. If we lost that many games, our system had better be loaded. And regarding Abreu, if he wins "a couple of games", i'm fine with it. Moncada coming up in May will likely benefit from having Jose around.

Which of these (bad) options would you bat lead off?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Why can't he work on that while batting leadoff? Because that doesn't usually work. This team is going to be bad. Every move with the young guys must be deliberate and cautious. -

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) I don't get the fascination with Anderson's power stroke, that's not what's going to make or break him as a player. It's not really a matter of power stroke. Anderson needs to walk more before he leads off. -
The kids voices are special.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) 69-93. Sale and Eaton are gone. Avi will be playing in the field. Impending trades. I think the Padres have the #1 pick wrapped up but the Sox should get a top 6 pick. My heart tells me that's an acceptable finish, but my brain knows it could be worse. Just so glad this team is doing the right thing.

POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017
Bananarchy replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) I don't want to tell a manager to try and lose. That's horrible for player development to tell the guys not to try too hard. I don't expect him to try and lose. I expect him to get the most out of his players to increase the older guys' value to trade for prospects. That's how we keep the win total down. If all goes to plan, guys like Moncada (for however long he's up), Anderson, and Rodon have solid, building block seasons, but the White Sox still are bottom five in baseball. And as far as the Joe Maddon thing, that stuff just happens. I want to give Renteria a better shot than he got on the north side -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) I want him to feel free to develop his power stroke and I worry at leadoff he'll feel pressure to just make any contact. Agreed. And I feel like the White Sox simply rush too many guys into those first few spots, only to drop them back to the 7-9 slot never to return. -

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) I think Anderson should bat leadoff every single game and regardless of how he's doing, he should stay there the entire season. The Cubs did a similar thing with Rizzo when he came up with them, they batted him third everyday regardless of his performance. Anderson's OBP was his weakness last year. If you want to throw games, that's the thing to do, but it's probably not worth ruining his development.
