"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"
Bananarchy replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 07:39 PM) They would get some share of parts of states surrounding Nevada that don't have teams. Northern AZ, UT, ID, OR, Inland CA. Plus tourists in town will go to a game or two. Spoken like someone who doesn't know how TV markets work. The Diamondbacks, Rockies, Mariners, and California based teams will not cede their markets to Las Vegas. You can prove to me Las Vegas is a TV market, but Chicago is still a much better market. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) Gregg Marshall taking Illini job after NCAA tourney, I heard from a very good source. This a great hire to me. Well, in a few weeks we'll know if I hate you or not. lol -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Staal after the game was over yelled at the Hawks bench "We'll be seeing you guys again and whip your asses then." He told them! lol

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) The White Sox have a rather long lease and make money every season. There are several other teams that cannot say the same thing. Every 6 months we get the Sox moving posts. They aren't leaving. Put it to rest. This post should be stickied. There has been one move in the last 45 years in the MLB. I'm not sure why this is even a discussion. No team in a market like Chicago is going to downgrade to a TV market like Las Vegas. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) They had a lot to do with some coaches not wanting to work under Mike Thomas AD than not wanting the Illinois job at the time. Mike Thomas: Bad hire or worst hire? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Coaches wouldn't leave Butler and VCU for Illinois, that is pretty much my point, though I am pretty sure there were more than that who weren't even interested publicly. EDIT: Pretty sure Martin was connected at one point and flat out said no. Oh please, you're worse than caufield. Stevens knew he had bigger dreams than going to a bigger college. Shaka went to Texas, which looks like a mistake now.I'm still not sure what your problem is. Illinois fans are the worst. I say this as one. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) Aiming high? lol. Yeah, his program ended up with Groce because how many candidates didn't even want to talk to them last time around? They can aim as high as they want, it won't make this a super-attractive job. Two. Two candidates turned down Illinois. One is coach of the 2 seed in the Eastern conference of the NBA. The other is struggling terribly at Texas. It's certainly a top 25 job. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) So the ink is barely dry, and they are already being turned down. Yeah, when you shoot for an NBA guy, that's what happens. You get turned down. If you don't get turned down, you're not aiming high enough. Get over this Illinois "woe is me" narrative. It's nauseating. -

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) Woj report: Sounds like they will be big spenders Whitman set quite a precedent with Lovie Smith. Might as well spend the money and get it right the first time. I would think Cuonzo Martin, maybe. As far as off the grid candidates, I'd take a flyer on Becky Hammon. -

Good deal! Hopefully some Goose Island, too.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) These two pretty much go hand and hand, dont they? They certainly should, so I wonder if a guy like Melky should be moved. -

It's been clear for a while: Hahn is unwilling to accelerate a rebuild by accepting lower offers for key assets. The question I have is whether or not he should move some assets that appear to be at maximum value. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) If you call him up at the end of May you're giving him an extra 4 months of MLB experienced that does nothing to his service time. If he is playing well there is no point in leaving him down in AAA once he crosses the date to give him an extra year service time. Agreed, but at the same time it's probably better to make sure he's playing really well in AAA to avoid stunting his development (the fear if he comes up to the majors too quickly)
-
Sucks to have to be so patient, but unless he owns AAA, I think May could be a bit optimistic.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 10:31 PM) Yeah...the fact that is all he drafted is why he isn't here (along with Trestman). Pace's draft last year (one year in) looks fantastic. We'll see what this next draft brings. I wonder if Bears look at Poe / Pryor? Personally, I feel the same way. It's hard that FA starts before the draft. It seems like GMs want to function the opposite way by building through the draft and filling in the holes with free agents. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) He did draft Jeffrey and Kyle Long. Is that it? That's a pretty s***ty run. Between Floyd and Howard, Pace beat Emery in one draft. Edit: I forgot Whitehair. People forget what a terrible GM Emery was. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Geeze...how could we not have worked out something with Alshon. Judging by the fact that Alshon turned down a longer term deal from the Vikings and Alshon isn't work $14 million per, it's not surprising they didn't want to overpay him. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:21 PM) wow, was out for 3 hours and worst fears of this offseason confirmed. If you were to run all the possibilities of this offseason in January how many had you with Bears losing Jeffrey for nothing, getting no top cornerback, and signing Mike Glennon as a starter Short of Myles Garrett suddenly falling to 3, this is the worst case scenario. Worse case scenario involved franchising Alshon and having him spend half the season on the bench. That's what Alshon does. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Michael David SmithVerified account @MichaelDavSmith 1h1 hour ago The Browns had the most picks in the 2016 draft and now have the most picks in both the 2017 and the 2018 drafts. If the Browns manage to Browns this up, it would appear as though they are beyond saving. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) There really never is. Guys are FA's for a reason. But when you dont knock every every draft pick out of the park you have to over pay for guys in FA to fill in the gaps that you failed with. Bears have too many holes to fill them with free agents. No need to overspend. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) So what are we gonna do with all this cap space...? You roll it over. It's part of the game. What you cannot do if you're Chicago is overpay for what's left of free agency. And the cheap bulls*** is lazy research. If there was $40 million worth of high value talent, the Bears would spend ALL the cap space. There isn't.
