  1. Thanks for the update. I try to follow a little, but it's just so difficult right now.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) Exactly. No one would care who was in the booth past 5-6 years if the Sox were playing well. I read his comment as "Good broadcast team", but either of your points are valid. I think more than anything I'm just so disappointed how Hawk has destroyed his broadcast pairing with Stone. I don't even mind if Jason isn't the heir apparent to good Hawk, I just want better chemistry than what happens in the road booth.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) I just cannot stand the same corny jokes he makes and Q&A sessions with Stone every night. I'd much rather listen to Hawk's rants and stories from 1970 over and over than what Benetti brings to the table consistently. But no one honestly cares about the 1970s. We're in a period where the young talent in the league is as good as ever. A lot of us want to hear about what's going on around the league. If you're going to waste broadcast time, don't talk about the 1970s, stick with here and now.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) Yeah, Benetti really just asks Stone question after question after question, which gets old by the 4th inning. Definitely a side effect of his relative inexperience in the sport. Something I fully expect to improve.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) and Benetti isn't??? Two things: 1) He's significantly better than Hawk, which is already a step up 2) Benetti is new in his role with plenty of room for improvement, a luxury Hawk does not have (he's been trending downwards for about 15 years) If you're going to compare Benetti and Hawk, the only reasonable conclusion is that JB is a better broadcaster in every measurable way AND has room for significant improvement.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) this is basically the defense of Hawk you and DA are going with? That because he's old and cranky he gets to do what he wants? This is a multi billion dollar business FFS not a church bake sale. As has been noted, there's plenty of way to get involved that don't require calling the game (or eyesight for that matter). Agreed. Fans deserve better than "Well, he's old so we're keeping him around even though he's out of touch and the game has left him behind".
  7. How fortunate are the Cubs that the Mets are completely incapable of keeping their pitchers healthy?
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 07:06 PM) He gets excited, people complain. He tones it down, people complain. Because he's a garbage broadcaster regardless of his mood.
  9. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Well sign me up for a summer of that!! Gotta rebuild to get that. We're really not a contender at this point.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 11:13 PM) Please Use Spaced Out Paragraphs ? OP is making a kind of silly argument about how trading away players will damage the locker room or something. It's silly because if we trade all the right guys, we get a whole new locker room. And our prospects aren't dumb. They know why the White Sox moved a staff Ace and an All Star outfielder to acquire them.
  11. Yes. All the usual suspects have already jumped on the go for it train, but they are still wrong.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 10:51 PM) Nobody cares about the locker room. Nobody cares about being in first place. If the Sox are 1-2 out near the trading deadline, people will be dying to trade all the usual suspects for prospects. It's the rebuild that the vocal fans care about, not some quest for a weak division title. It's just the way it is. The new wave statniks love this rebuild and that's that. The Sox will trade off everybody they can even if they happened to be 2-3 games in first near the deadline. Rebuilding is IN right now. Personally I want to win and scrap the alleged rebuild. The reality is the Royals blow chunks, the Tigers suck, the Twins suck and Cleveland is great. Because the goal of baseball isn't to be a winner for one year in a decade. The goal is to build talent in your farm system so that you have young, cost controlled talent. THEN you use free agency to fill the holes and try to win the World Series for a wide open window of time. It pains me how simple you are sometimes. Rebuilding is in because rebuilding works. The "going for it" nonsense works once every five years if you're lucky. And you're damn right no one cares about this locker room. We know what this is, and we're still not 23-10 yet (not that it mattered last year)
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) This team was never as bad as most here thought it'd be. Still think Cleveland will run away with this division in the end, but wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox in the thick of things in early July. 23-10
  14. Not a Hoiberg fan, but I hate when fanbases cheer "Fire Hoiberg" and things like that. It's not a good look.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 12:21 AM) Supposedly, Trubisky got booed at the Bulls game. If true, that is f***ing disgraceful. The Bulls as an organization are a disgrace, but their fans aren't much better (speaking as a Bulls fan) The Fire Hoiberg chant is ridiculous, too.
  16. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Ahhhhh...the ecstasy of WINNING! You can't beat it!! You can, actually. It's called the ecstasy of being a contender
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 11:04 PM) It's July 31st, 2017. The Chicago White Sox are 6 games over .500, 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Indians, and in 2nd place in the AL Central. Avisail Garcia is hitting .325, Matt Davidson has 18 home runs, Rodon has a sub-3 ERA, and the bullpen remains dominant. Yoan Moncada and Lucas Giolito have had strong showings since their early June call-ups. Nevertheless, the Sox swing trades for Dan Jennings, David Robertson, Melky Cabrera, Todd Frazier, and Nate Jones. -------------------------------------------------- Even though that was mostly sarcastic, I can actually see this team being pretty good and still selling, to the dismay of *some* fans. This team has been really good, but I still expect them to sell at the deadline.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) I like how instead of actually looking at the facts, we just say "lots of QBs get drafted in the first round." As I pointed out, in Vick's draft only 1 QB was drafted, Brees went in the 2nd. In Peyton's draft class only 2 were picked (1/2). In Rodgers draft, only 3 went in the 1st. Last years draft 3 went. The idea that 5 QBs are getting picked in the first round every year is pretty unusual. Even in Luck's year (what was considered a deep class) only 4 were selected. I think right now Bears fans are talking themselves into Trubisky. Not saying that Trubisky may not turn out to be a HOF, just (imo) he wasnt even the best prospect in college last year. Unfortunately for the Bears those QBs arent available this year. 3 is the norm now. Sorry, but Vick and Manning's drafts are no longer "modern NFL"
  19. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Also, if you're in a bidding war with the f***ing Cleveland Browns over a QB, given their amazing history of QBs drafted, you should probably realize you're looking at the wrong guy. This Browns FO didn't pick many of those QBs. The draft history is irrelevant. Plus, I completely understand Ryan Pace wanting a quarterback. He's a Saints guy, after all.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) My exact thoughts. I really believe that Pace played himself. The other GMs made him sweat and he jumped at their "threat" to move up. Trubisky is not a world-beater and he certainly will not keep this team from 4-12 this upcoming season. Doesn't bother me. Third and fourth rounders are crapshoots. If you believe in a quarterback, go get him. That's a small price to pay.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) Is there a reason people don't like Trubisky? I thought he was the favored QB on here. I would have been terrified of Watson even if supportive of the "well he wins and he seems nice". People are worried about his lack of experience. He only grades out an 88/100 or something like that on most draft boards But then again, Dak Prescott didn't grade out an 88/100 and every team would redraft him in the first round.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) The story is that the 49ers had another trade offer on the table. Sounds like the Texans, Chiefs, and Browns wanted to move to 3 or 2 to grab Trubisky. Pace took calls from all three, which much have keyed him into the idea that they were also trying to get 2.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) Possibly. Probably not a good idea though unless Melky and Frazier is still here past July. Right. Taken in context, though, the Cubs are paying the reigning MVP just north of 1 million USD
  24. Watson saw better defenses in college than he'll see in the AFC South
  25. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 08:37 PM) You guys complain every year that they don't address the Qb position. They finally make a shrewd move to get one because if they didn't it's likely someone else was entertaining a trade with San Fran to get Trubisky, the guy Pace identifies as "the guy" and you all lose ur s*** over a couple third rounders. It's a horrible reach. The Bears are a terrible organization
