He's a bad player. It's difficult to accept because he has the pedigree and the attitude to be good, and physically he just looks like he SHOULD be a ballplayer. But he's nearly 26 years old, has over 1600 MLB at at bats, and his career OBP is .313. He's a bad player.

No. Unless you are getting a legit closer type (not guys like League), you end up overpaying for middle-relief guys whose performances are highly variable. Our new guys pass the eye test (i.e., have good stuff) and have good minor league numbers. They're ready, they just need an opportunity.
