QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 03:01 AM) You Celtic fans can have a laugh at Rangers' expense, but to be honest this is a terrible thing for Scottish football, Celtic included. The state of the sport in that country already wasn't pretty, but this really hurts it. You think Celtic is going to be a destination for any sort of attractive players without the Old Firm derby 5+ times a year? Not so sure about that. That's certainly the line being taken in media circles, but the opportunity to play in European competitions would be Celtic's main pitch rather than games against the cheats. This presents an opportunity to re-energise Scottish football, with the clear opportunity to claim a place in European competition, as well as winning Cups, stimulating other clubs and supporters alike, increased competitiveness leading to increased attendances (in time I do believe that credible League challengers will emerge). And, it won't take too much of an attendance increase for clubs to cover the loss of playing Rangers twice a season. The financial implications of parachuting Newco back into the Premier League would've seen mass supporter disillusionment (and boycotting) at the game being skewed so much to suit the club that had done so much damage already, not to mention the anger at sporting integrity being rode roughshod over to such an extent. The road ahead is certainly unchartered and challenging, but the nearly unanimous voice of football supporters in Scotland felt it was more promising than throwing out the rule book to facilitate those that have done so much damage to the game already. Your analysis may end up being correct, but I'd rather give it a proper shot. -
God, I feel as rough as a badgers arse!!! Vodka session kicking-off at 3pm today, though!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:23 AM) Maybe. Ive seen a barrel turned upright for a smoker It's not such a big priority. My first focus would be on getting something sorted for grilling.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) It's great knowing a bartender. Getting drunk for free (+ tips of course) is pretty awesome. Brilliant! Was there much drink left in the establishment afterwards??

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 07:20 PM) Are you making a grill or a smoker? Eh, primarily a grill but was pondering whether it would work as both.
-
Was just thinking of getting my hands on an old oil barrel somewhere, and finding someone who's handy with metal to cut it in half (longways, obviously) and weld some legs, handles, and hinges for the lid half onto it. Not sure what way I'd fit the grill into the inside of it. Was speculating as to whether it would also be suitable for slow-grilling. As a nation renowned for your BBQs, what do you US sorts make of my fabulous idea?

Great Friday 13th: Fairly productive day in work, great news on the sporting front, already a couple of beers down, more beer in the fridge, and the baseball's back! An evening of relaxation awaits, followed by some late-night watching of the Sox. Might not have enough beer to last 'til the end of the Sox game, but isn't that what a stock of spirits is for? Life is good.

Comedian Frankie Boyle on Twitter - "Rangers [Newco 2012] to Division 3. Every other Saturday one of Scotland's smaller towns will get to learn what life was like in the time of the Vikings." -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) Unlike many on Soxtalk, I'd rather be wrong. And, in any event, I always think it's better for someone else to be in the spotlight as favourite. Under the radar will suit me just fine if we end up where we want to be at the end of it all.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) How you feeling about Rangers being delegated to lower division? Happy to see justice being done. I feel it's only right and proper from the point of view of sporting integrity. Just to be pedantic, I should also point out that Rangers are kaput - dead. It's not so much a relegation as the various footballing bodies deciding which division the new club, Sevco (the current name for the newco club) should be parachuted into. Actually, they may even struggle to play at all next season as it's hard to tell if they'll have enough players to compete. But, anyway, as a supporter of a club that was cheated out of Championship trophies and the ensuing financial benefits through the corruption of the defunct club, I'm not sad to see that the whirlwind is yielding a mighty load.

Quite a momentous day for Scottish football today. Bullying attempts by the footballing authorities to shoe-horn Sevco (the newco zombie club that is attempting to replace the failed club that was Rangers) into the Scottish First Division, following their rejection by the Scottish Premier League last week, have failed following a vote at Hampden Park today by SFL chairmen. An overwhelming 25 voted to send them down to the Third Division. Ha! G.I.R.F.U.T.* *(Get It Right F***ing Up Them) -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) Notre Dame plays Navy in Dublin September 1. I'll be doing a bus trip over to Glasgow for a Celtic match that day.

Injecting chicken? Not something I'd heard of before, but sounds interesting. I like to try random stuff with food. Does much of the sauce actually stay in the meat, though? I would've thought it would just ooze back out once the syringe was removed.

Is there much of a culture of buying season tickets for USCF amongst diehard fans, or is it more a case of picking and choosing your games as you go? -
I was promised* by an Admin that I would "get to celebrate a world series win during [my] 1st year of fandom". So that modest expectation is what I've put my life savings on. It's free money. *not actually 'promised' but 'hopefully'.
