Mariners acquire Chris Denorfia from SD

Trade Seattle Tank while there is still time. -
Goddamn it I will be so pissed if they send Maurer to one of those teams, especially if its for Rios who we straight dumped. Maybe we could cut in line & offer the Rangers Leury Garcia straight up for Rios and then send him to Seattle, I sure bet they wouldn't laugh in our faces for that.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I think we should keep in mind that pitchers like Lackey and Price likely get moved first before teams are forced to fall back on looking at Danks. There are still better pitchers available at the moment. Both of those teams want a haul & both can make their deals in the offseason. The Rays probably don't care about Danks because the teams that would be in on him probably couldn't afford Price anyway, but the Red Sox may view Danks as a threat in that some other team can step up and take on the contract & then wouldn't have to offer up any talent which of course would be very necessary in a Lackey deal.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) I love it as a hardball tactic, honestly. Also, if you scratch him, you make a very loud statement to your team and fanbase about your intentions. If you don't ultimately trade him, everyone feels like that was the sole strategy anyway. If we don't manage any trades and Danks goes out and starts, Hahn can act like he was trying to add to the team or something. I agree, and really, what are the chances Danks suffers an injury that negates the deal? This is ridiculous thinking to me, might as well ask him to not go up or down stairs during the month of July and to stay away from mirrors and black cats for at least 2 weeks leading up to the deadline. It's all nonsense.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Don't stop there. Dunn, ADA and Tank would be nice as well. I don't hold high hopes but one can dream, right? If we get back an arm like Maurer then I'm okay with trading Tank. The next are worthless, won't bring in jack especially Dunn. We'll pay his entire salary in August and then he'll get a Jon Link or something, whoopie. But just think (salivating) at how awesome we'd be in the reverse standings should our OF consist of Danks-Eaton-Sierra with Andy Wilkins as the DH, Taylor as the 4th OF, Marcus Semien at 2B and a rotation of Sale-Q-Carroll-Noesi-Reclamation project/Triple A garbage. Man we would rocket up those reverse standings quick. s*** may as well dump Bellisario too on someone so that Taylor Thompson can see more time, wow what an arm that kid has (sarcasm).

Lackey traded to the Cardinals
The Ultimate Champion replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
If he's making the min next year they can deal him in the offseason. No rush for Boston. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) Even if Danks isn't traded today, it does not mean he won't be traded in August. Calm down Sox fans. Yep. Although I'm not sure I want to see a fatigued John Danks out there on the mound for us in the dog days of August trying to "build trade value" as that just sounds like a recipe for disaster. Hopefully by the time we hit the deadline he's gone. Beckham too, that would be nice. We lose those twio today, even if we get back nothing we can call this thing a win.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) If you think hes getting traded, you dont put him out there and risk a freak injury. The Red Sox scratched Lester yesterday for that reason, the White Sox scratched Peavy a year ago for the same reason. If he starts, it means they are not close to a deal and he more than likely won't be dealt at all. This is true, the other stuff you've been saying isn't. If Danks goes out there it means they are not close to finalizing a deal. IF HOWEVER the Yanks cave and say "Okay we'll take that contract off your hands" then if John Danks is on the mound Robin will go out there and get him immediately. As long as the deadline is in effect he has a chance to be traded.

Fuld is a lefty who hits lefties better than righties.... maybe he's a character guy and some extra insurance. I doubt Beane cares much about getting full/fair value out of every one of his players. Milone had a roster spot, probably wasn't going to bring back a lot anyway, so whatever. Beane needed another body in the OF and got one. Not sure why any of us would have wanted him other than as a lefty in the pen, but if he's going to complain about not starting then why would we want him? We need righties. And if we want a lower ceiling lefty we already ahve Surkamp. No use for that guy. OTOH the Twins will take any pitching they can get it seems.

I wonder if it's a given that Rienzo will start if Danks goes. Maybe we go to Rienzo for 4, Thompson for 2, mentally check out somewhere in the 3rd inning and head out to lunch, leave Leury back in case there are more innings needed later, etc.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:40 AM) The odds of Danks getting hurt today are slim to none, but why even risk it if you a think a trade is near? The Red Sox scratched Jon Lester, the Cubs kept Bonaficio out of the lineup, why? Maybe a negotiation thing. You pull your player because you have multiple suitors & you want them to know that the time is near, it's time to make your best/final offer, etc. If you have only one serious suitor you probably don't pull that.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) IMO, the bluff for Danks ends at gametime. If he is starting, he's not getting traded today. Even if he doesn't start, he may not, but not only for injury purposes, a team acquiring him wouldn't be able to use him for 5 days. If something is anywhere near close, I'm thinking they at the very least push him back. I still don't think today's deadline means all that much to the White Sox in terms of who they are trading. Their guys shouldn't have a problem getting through waivers and if they don't, they may let them go anyway. So it's 1:30pm and Danks is on his way back out for the 5th and the Yanks agree to the package then. You don't think Hahn calls Robin and says to pull him? I think you're crazy. If the Yanks meet the Sox (proabbly small) asking price he will be traded today whether he starts or not. He's not fine china he doesn't need to be withheld from anything.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:27 AM) I think yankees trying give us Francisco Cervelli instead murphy or gary Sanchez and rick hahn wants one or sanchez or murphy not Francisco Cervelli That sounds very possible. Or maybe the Yanks are saying "we will give you Cerveilli but we want you to eat $2M per year" at which point we're countering with MAurphy, getting the Yanks involved in trying to add Dayan to the deal, etc. I think if it happens it'll probably be a straight dump like Cervelli comes here and we eat less than 3-4M in total. I bet the Yanks are getting a good deal of money back on insurance this year with all their high dollar injuries. They can afford Danks & Hahn knows it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) You're assuming we could just basically give the Danks contract to the Yankees and they would take him off our hands, like Rios when KW claimed him off waivers. I think if that was the case, Hahn would let him go in a heartbeat. I don't understand why we would have much leverage with the Astros flooding the market with their top 3 starters...and the Yankees already having picked up Capuano and McCarthy. The only real leverage we have is working against us, those other AL East teams (Blue Jays, Orioles) knowing that Lester is out there and that the Red Sox don't want him to go to the Yankees. The Rays seemingly are going to hold onto price until next year at the deadline or at least the offseason. Especially if Hamels is off the market... That seems to be the case to you, doesn't it? The Yanks don't want to give up much & why are we going to eat a ton of cash just to get nothing in return? Maybe that's what the Marlins stuff is about, we're telling the Yanks that if you want us to eat a good amuont of cash we will need something back, and if you want to givew up squat you're going to be taking this contract. 3 pitchers the Astros will trade, Brandon McCarthy and Chris Capuano... you just right there named why the Yanks like Danks. Danks is a veteran and a model of health, AL performance, and consistency compared to those guys.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) Uh.... He hasn't gotten hurt starting any of the other games he's made this year. Maybe we should tie him to a pole and wrap him in bubble wrap, tell him "you stay right here & eat rice cakes I don't want you getting hurt in case we trade you! No human contact either what if you get a cough?" I'm willing to bet Danks won't get hurt today.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:18 AM) New York Post just posted an article about the Yankees-White Sox discussing Danks and Dayan. I'd much, much rather have Maurer from Seattle than any of the Yanks catchers. JMO but if Coop could fix 'em? Yeesh, we'd get a nice piece for sure.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:10 AM) You don't risk him getting injured though. I'm sure they have had enough discussions with other teams that everyone knows where they stand. They aren't close to a deal with anyone, so unless someone ups their offer before game time, no reason to mess with the rotation. He's not going to get hurt starting a game. He's porbably safer sticking to his routines anyway. I wouldn't read into any of this. Obviously the Sox are going to assume he'll still be here because he';s still here now. But the Sox likely want to shed his deal & the Yankees definitely seem to be interested, and so if it comes together the deal will go down. Please happen. Even for a bag of balls. Maybe we should all get down on our knees and pray for balls?

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) You've brought up leverage a few times here. I disagree. I think the fact that the Sox are seemingly close to being a playoff team and the fact that Danks is under contract for a few more years, thus making him a potential part of said playoff team gives the Sox some leverage. They absolutely do not HAVE to trade him, therefor leverage is there. I very strongly diagree with the bolded. We're still a few core pieces away from being at that point. Maybe a couple of them will come in-house, like a 2B for one, but we won't know until they are here showing themselves as MLB ballplayers. For all purposes we're a contender no sooner than 2016, that's how we should approach the deadline & offseason. Danks is a back end starter getting paid like a mid-rotation starter. There are several contracts that are worse, and Danks isn't too much of an overpayment, and Danks *could* even perform up to his deal or even slightly exceed it assuming he continues to develop into a different type of pitcher. But I'm not seeing any leverage here in possessing a likely back-end SP at market value or above that isn't in demand. If there's no real demand where does our leverage come from? No we don't *have* to trade Danks but if we pass this up and keep him we could really end up regretting it. The Yanks are in a tough spot ATM where they need SP and can't afford much, and so maybe the extent of our leverage in negotiations is forcing them to take on at least 90% or more of the remaining deal. Maybe there's a good amount of leverage in that.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 07:57 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 1m Told that Danks will take mound for #WhiteSox in Detroit at 1:08 p.m. ET. One phone could change everything, but that is the plan. Isn't the deadline like 3pm CT or something like that every year? If so that's 3 hours after game time. Sox shouldn't be expected to mess up his routine. If he's dealt they'll pull him late.

Do we make a deadline deal?
The Ultimate Champion replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not sure the Giants would part with any kind of ring Barry Bonds used to put around his wood. Maybe Hahn gets a duffelbag (sp?) of clearance items from the SF tourism office. Few bumper stickers, lots of pamphlets, a couple t-shirts, definitely a Golden Gate bridge keychain or 2, etc. Maybe they even make him a custom t-shirt that says "I traded Gordon Beckham to San Francisco and all I got was this T-shirt..." and then on the back it says "Steal!" -

The Ultimate Champion replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My guess, we well trade Beckham for a bag of balls. Someone will offer to drive him to the airport but it would be an empty gesture because when it really comes down to it the airport is a mess and why would anyone want to do anything for Gordon Beckham? -
Yes or No

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) It really doesn't make any sense at all. I'm confused too buddy. Initially I thought maybe the Marlins thought process was,if they move Salty to the Sox then technically the Marlins are only taking on roughly 7M more per year by acquiring Danks. Maybe throw in a low level prospect to the Sox and call it a day. But, then what happens with Flowers? Would he be part of the deal or better yet maybe Nieto and the Sox platoon Flowers and Salty? It could kinda sorta in a round about f***ed up way make some kinda half-assed sense, maybe? I'd make that trade. Of course I'd make just about any trade, trades are awesome. Now the Marlins did eat cash on Ozzie, they did eat cash on Heath Bell, so.... maybe they'd take on a potentially bad deal for a short period and then look to dump it later even if they had to eat cash again? Like, Marlins offer a decent low level prospect the Sox like, the Sox pretty much pay for Danks in 2014, the Marlins then use Danks this year and part of next hoping to dump him while eating $5M or less or so? Those shady f***ers are so cheap you just know they are up to something. I don't buy it though. I just can't.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) Why do I have a very difficult time believing the Marlins are interested in Danks. I doubt the Sox would pick up enough money for the Marlins to bite. I hope I'm wrong but I call bulls***. EMinor I think posted something like $38M as what is owed to Danks. To get that figure in Marlins territory what do we have to eat, $15M+ or more? What could the Marlins possibly send us that would be worth eating that much cash, and why would the Marlins what to part with such a valuable prospect or package of prospects for John Danks of all players? Makes no sense unless the Marlins are not being the Marlins. Maybe they can offer something the Sox like a bit, get the Sox to cover Danks' 2014 salary, and the Marlins think they could dump him later? Makes no sense. It's the baseball chewbacca defense & I am confused. I do not believe the Marlins trade rumors no sir TYVM.
