Yes or No, Danks for Santiago straight-up
The Ultimate Champion replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:30 PM) You don't get to post pictures of hairy boobs and then tell me I can't say Hot Garbage. NO!!! Don't say it anymore!! Also what's wrong with hairy boobs? If you want to use that godawful term then at least disguise as something else. Maybe sMeLlYtRaSh or dUmPsTeRgArBaGe or something like that which could become a really cool nickname we could all get behind. Just follow the tried and true formula of coming up with a cool word for garbage and then a second word that describes characteristics or conditions of garbage (which are already implied and unnecessary) and the combine the two into one word, second word coming first, with the capitalization alternating to take it from "cool" to "super cool awesome." Maybe uNwAnTeDrEfUsE? Just try a lil harder KyYlE, that's all I'm saying. -
Is the ankle still an issue? That's a lot of money. The Dodgers will have to eat a ton to move him to anyone.
-
Also if w're talking about small finds here that turned into something much bigger, the same guy who found & recommended Mark to us also found a guy named Albert Pujols who of course we didn't draft. I'm sure there are lots of others but IIRC Pujols went 5th round or later, so that one kind of hurts.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 07:31 AM) I just looked up his 2011 numbers. Played at Tampa (A+). 30 appearances, including 12 starts. 102 IP, 2.91 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 3.1 K/BB. Now, I know absolutely nothing about the Florida State League, maybe it is a very pitcher friendly league, but if not, those are pretty decent numbers. They don't look like numbers of a guy that a team should be giving up on. However, I'd appreciate the opinion of somebody with much better knowledge of the minors and prospects. It was just a scouting snafu by the Yankees. They thought he was just a strike thrower and too far behind other, better prospects when it came time to put him on the 40 or let him go. Also the Mets let go of him after the MiLB PED incident. I'm not sure what happened there but obviously they were quick to pull the trigger as well. You have to wonder how much more difficult it is to take supplements but not ones banned by MLB when you are in another (poor) country where everyone is a salesman. Mets were even du,ber than the Yankees, at least the Yankees made the move because they were forced to protect him. Mets cut him for no reason.

Yes or No, Danks for Santiago straight-up

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) Santiago is only 2 years younger than Danks so that's not really getting that much younger. Santiago shouldn't have to have his innings limited at this point. If he was any good he'd be throwing 175+ innings after throwing 149 the year before. Coop has already worked with him. I'd be fine trading Beckham and some minor leaguers or something like that but you either get something valuable for Danks or you keep...Not trade him for a guy who more than likely ends up in the pen. This is a quality post and likely pushes this poll even further into "No" territory. Well s*** I thought it was a good idea at first. But the Beckham idea... can we run with that? 3-way deal with the Yanks/Toronto/etc. where Angels get something they need, we get Hector, we send out Beckham. That's a great deal for us. We can send out Belisario there too. -
The Royals look like they picked up a solid RP in former Sox player (and Chicagoan IIRC) Jason Frasor. I'm not sure what this means for us but I imagine the value of a Belisario or something is probably a lot closer to what the Rangers received for Frasor than what the Pirates got from the Marlins earlier this year (comp balance draft pick). The question is, is there even a market for ANY of our relievers? I would hope so but to me it doesn't look that way. What is the market for Putnam and do we even consider trading him for that price? Do we consider trading Petricka for anything less than a haul given how atrocious our pen is? Could we get anyone with a pulse for Belisario?

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) As others have pointed out, the Sox have plenty of room in the payroll. Use Danks to bridge the gap to Rodon and then trade Danks. Hopefully Danks improves his value even more while we wait for Rodon. I think this is the most realistic scenario and probably the one preferred by the org. It'll be L-R-L-R-L if they get their wish & Rodon will be one of those guys. Maybe someone offers the moon for Q and things change but I doubt it, Danks will probably be the odd man out. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) No thanks. The Sox have enough holes in the rotation, why create another one? Carroll is a nice long man, he can handle it. Hector being demoted has kept his IP total down, we'd be able to get 5-6IP/game out of him for the rest of the year easy. Maybe he doesn't work much deeper than that, but that's what Coop is for! Also our team is garbage, there's holes all over this thing. I don't mind opening them wherever so long as there is at least a little bit of youth and upside to plug in there. KW & Hahn should like Hector still, he is a grinder on the mound with a football mentality. -
Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) Semien is the best pure hitter in the Sox system. I don't care if he's exciting or not. I really hope this is not the case. I'd say that he's definitely the most polished and most MLB ready at this point but best pure hitter? That implies a lot and personally I don't follow our system close enough to put that tag on anyone but I sure hope that guy isn't Marcus because if it is we could be in even worse shape than it looks. -

1-1, wow this poll is really hot s***. Remember the Angels are the team that signed Hamilton, Pujols, gave a bunch of money to that guy they just released this year, Blanton IIRC, they took on Vernon Wells' contract, etc. Money probably isn't much of an issue. Santiago + salary relief could be a great haul for us. Then we re-evaluate once Rodon is here. -
Ozzie wants back in Sox family
The Ultimate Champion replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) I think circumstances led to his demise. If the Sox don't win the World Series, Ozzie, who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, isn't subjected to the constant butt kissing, and praise and talk about his genius. He doesn't get into the war of egos with KW. He isn't educated. He isn't very bright. IMO, he is the easiest type to get caught up into the hype. It's one reason I find it incredible DRose has never gotten a huge head. One thing if I were making decisions I could never get past, was his putting trying to embarrass KW over winning. (Not that I don't think KW didn't deserve to be knocked down a couple of pegs) But a lot of players liked him. Start out small, maybe a Soxfest appearance, spring training instructor. See how those go. If he returns to what he was when he left, pull the plug, but if he is willing to toe the line, he could be an asset. Yeah I have to call absolute bulls*** on this. KW is a Stanford guy and he pretty much wrote the book on what you're not supposed to say in public. He's called out the fans, the greatest hitter in franchise history, etc. Just because you're "educated" doesn't mean you won't act like a prick. And I'm a huge KW fan but the guy had his moments for sure. Education is the process of accumulating knowledge. Being the center of your own universe and maintaining a massive ego is completely different. Just compare a helpful medical professional or a legal expert helping non profits to your average jerkoff highly educated party friends who just want to get drunk so they can argue their world views and such, and rationalize war and murder and talk about all this s*** they'll never actually understand because they don't care enough about other people in the first place to learn anything. It's all about ego, it's all about whether you can stop admiring yourself long enough to look around you & realize what your real strengths and weaknesses are & what your place is in the pecking order. There's always going to be someone that does something better than you, that knows more about X than you, that is more capable than you in a whole host of other areas, etc. Kenny was able to realize some of that stuff, he was able to keep his ego at least somewhat in check. Kenny still has a massive ego & wants to be smarter than everyone else, but he did put Hahn in charge of dealing with agents which wasn't one of his strong points, and he did make comments multiple times about how it's really best if he isn't the one dealing with the media. Ozzie really thought he could do no wrong. His strengths were upholding a certain clubhouse character/atmosphere and dealing with the media, as well as trusting his players especially his pitchers. But that's it. You don't "learn" how to control your emotions in some school somewhere, you learn that in life. Ozzie had everything he needed to become a very good manager for a long time in the bigs but he just didn't grow up enough. That said, eventually his #13 will be on the OF wall, but he should never, ever be allowed to manager, coach, or even consult for this team again. -
Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
The Ultimate Champion replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah adding Micah to the mix makes this team a lot more watchable. Semien is nice, but not the same level of prospect & not nearly as exciting IMO. At least Micah has one tool that makes you go "wow." -
Angels are looking for another starter and don't want to give up anything all that significant. They appear to have given up on Santiago. Offer them Danks straight up IMO, and yes I do this deal. I still love Hector's gritty overachieverness and attitude, and I think Don Cooper is man among boys when it comes to his colleagues around the league.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
The Ultimate Champion replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We should at least be able to get a Jason Frasor type of deal out of this guy. That's bare minimum. Also (and it goes without saying) the Sox should be willing to eat 100% of every deal they move in terms of 2014 salary minus the prorated minimum in order to get a better prospect(s). Beckham might be someone we could eat $900K - 1.2M on or whatever that would come out as by this time. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) nice selective memory. barely flinched? he got punched and stumbled or ran away. big man that AJP is, letting Scott Podsednik fight his battle with Barrett. Ha Barrett came right up to him like they were going to discuss something and then he threw the punch like a b**** instead of putting them up at a distance and saying let's go motherf***er. Barrett isn't even good enough to be a p****, p*****s are awesome, Barrett is just like old fermented p**** juice the female prisoners make to get drunk, or like French p**** cheese served on little crackers, or soomething like that. Barrett isn't even good enough to wipe AJs ass LOL noce career there Barrett you f***in schmuck LOL.
-
Don't forget about Big Z beating the unholy dogs*** out of Barrett in the parking lot at Wrigley. Z was my favorite Cubbie player. Also yes AJ did the right thing really, that team was supposed to go places that year. Can't get thrown out for a week or something because of some dumb Cub player. In a real fight AJ f***s him up, but this baseball, take that s*** off the field and away from the cameras and let's see what kind of man you are then.

Ha ha, what a horrible name for a promotion. Brooks Boyer can hammer a 12" railroad tie spike straight into asphalt without a pilot hole simply by using his own forehead. Why don't you call it like "Arctic April/April in Alaska" etc. something like that and offer Sox winter gloves to the first X fans, or have Southpaw dress like Santa or something, if you want to mock the s***ty weather and try to turn it around into a reason to attend. You can spend 10 mins and can probably come up with a laundry list of better ideas than that. LOL Sox have probably been working on this for months.

Road to .500 by the All-Star break

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) Tie game, runners in scoring position, two outs in the ninth. Who would you rather see batting for the White Sox, AJ or Tyler? I would put it this way: You're a diehard Sox fan and you're watching a game with no expectations of contention whatsoever this year. Who would you rather see at the plate, AJ or Flowers? I go AJ. I know Flowers is done here, Hahn almost nontendered the guy over $1M last offseason so that should say something. So if I'm not going to get a quality product anyway then at least give me a guy I like and can root for. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:46 AM) The closer the Sox had has the 2nd most blown saves in all of baseball and is very very close to losing his closer job in the desert. This is funny. At least they've had one closer, we've had like 14 already. I think believing that our pen wouldn't be substantially better with an established (now veteran) reliever like Reed is ridiculous. But that said I also think it is ridiculous to question the thought process behind the Reed trade. The Reed trade had to happen, Hahn didn't have a lot of bullets and so he had to do the best he could with what he had to work with. But yeah, this team would be much better with Reed. It would also be much better with Lindstrom. It would also be much better with Jones. And it would have been considerably better had Scott Downs been the LHSU guy Hahn thought he had signed, had Belisario stayed in the RHSU role the whole time, etc. We're so terrible down in that pen that there's no way you could look at Reed and say we're fine without him. Just leaves more work for Hahn, however maybe Davidson turns around and at least becomes a trade chip, because if so we may still end up getting really good value out of Reed. -
This is just great. Now Hahn can really focus on the deadline. Where's he starting, AA probably? I don't think there's a chance at all he goes to A+ unless it's like for 2 games to meet the coaches. Maybe extended to AA?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) Rondon, haha. Not the last time. That's the good one. We have a good one and a bad one. Bad one could be a good one if like a zillion things go right. The best we can hope for is some new GM accidentally tries to make a Rodon trade but he fudges the paperwork and gives us a star for Rondon instead.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) Between Marcus, Sanchez, Johnson, Saladino, Anderson and Rodon the Sox don't really need another SS taking up space unless it's a blue chip prospect. Really? It is very conceivable that none of those guys ever spend a full year starting at SS for the White Sox ever. Sanchez and Anderson are probably the only semi-realistic options. Rondon is a pipedream and the other guys aren't options at all. **Edit: We're not going to be getting a top-rated SS prospect from anyone, but there could still be talent out there. Stockpile like 3-4 legitimate SS options and who knows, maybe you get one guy out of it.
