For $1 million, who cares. No objection here, go ahead and bring Morneau in. We don't really have anything to lose at this point. Things can't get any worse than 6-20 in your last 26 games.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
Doc Edwards Shot replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) Let's just get rid of everyone. Whole front office, entire coaching staff (literally every team gets lucky on developing pitchers who struggled with other teams. Cooper isn't God.) Don't forget the stadium, too. If we're blowing up everything having to do with the White Sox and starting fresh, might as well. I was just in WDC at the Nationals stadium a few weeks ago and it was WAY BETTER than the Cell. Unlike our still-horrible upper deck, the elevated seats are much closer to the field with a more intimate feel to it. It wasn't cavernous like the Cell. -
All I know is that I'm in total shock at how things changed after they started the season 23-10. Never seen anything like this in my 40 years of watching White Sox baseball. Also, I don't remember the last time the Sox lost this many games in a span of 25. 6-19? It's like the Twilight Zone. Can anyone identify a more losing span in Sox history than this one? There probably have been a few, but I don't remember them. I can barely watch them right now. I feel a lot better not even checking on them until there are signs that they are playing decent baseball again. Since 2008, these are really dark times for our franchise. I feel like we could go until 2028 without making the playoffs again and the championship of 2005 could be the only one I see for the rest of my life. I have the same hopeless kind of feeling for the Bears, too. That franchise also has been total garbage for years to the point that I barely care about them.

Nationals (Scherzer) @ Sox (Shields)

Where do the game threads go after the games are over? I wanted to read last night's thread, but it has disappeared. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:07 PM) If you were told on April 3rd that the Sox would be .500 on June 7th, you would have taken it! But seriously, this sucks bad. I might take .500 on June 7th, but that's still mediocre. We've sunk so low that .500 is good? But .500 doesn't matter the way they're playing. They will be 15 games under by the 4th of July. They've become the worst team in all of MLB.

5/6 - Twins @ White Sox Game Thread
Doc Edwards Shot replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) The Twins' hitter (think it was Nunez) was in shock/disbelief at that one...maybe they're just used to Sano messing up every play in RF these days that they assume a ball like that has to be a double or triple off the bat.Sweet to see such awesome defense tonight, especially in the outfield. These were the kind of insane defensive plays the Twins used to pull on the Sox a decade ago when they owned us. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) 5 years 90 million. f***ing wow! Hey, it's the same franchise (SNF) that signed Barry Zito to his monster contract. They apparently smoke too much medical marijuana out there in the Bay...

Nate has to get a heck of a lot sharper before he's considered for a closer role. He was terrible last night, hitting two batters and giving up a couple of runs in less than an inning.

Good News---White Sox Still a resonable price

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Go to Shinnicks before the game and get a beer. They'll give you a parking pass if you ask for it. It's a few blocks to walk to the stadium with an easy exit after the game. Thanks for the tip. -
Greatest Opening Day Moments in White Sox History
Doc Edwards Shot replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) That last line should actually read 90 or more games because there's one year where they won exactly 90 games. Anyway, having looked up the records it's amazing how many years the Sox didn't make the playoffs simply because the Yankees were better. Of course that streak of winning seasons stopped right around the time they added the East/West divisions to each league. The Sox have never taken advantage of MLB adding to the number teams that can make it to the playoffs. They've never won the WC and even with a second WC now added, they still haven't managed it. I totally appreciate the modern era's playoffs with more teams allowed in. That was BS back in the old days with only one team from each league going to the World Series. -
Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi
Doc Edwards Shot replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) Wrong. It's phosphoric acid. That's what gives the carbonated beverages their syrupy tangy taste. It's true that soda can be used to take rust off stuff because of the phosphoric acid in it. I tried it on my kid's bike and it worked to some extent. Not quite as good as a real rust remover, but not half bad. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) Nope. http://popvssoda.com/ That's hilarious! There's a freaking webpage dedicated to charting how various regions of the county describe soda? Wish I had that kind of time on my hands. Let me guess, it probably came from a frivolous research project from the U.S. government - paid for with our tax money. Thanks, I stand corrected. -

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) Coke is definitely the superior soda. And, guys, it's soda, not pop. I think the only place in America where it's called "pop" is here in the Chicago area. Everyone else in America calls it soda, which is its true name if you read the packaging itself. I've called it pop before in other cities when I was away on business and it often got a chuckle out of the locals. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) I'm not trying to crusade to stop people from drinking what they like. I just personally don't get it America's obsession with sugar infused carbonated drinks. That is all. On that note, I don't get America's obsession with caffeine either - all that Starbucks coffee crap, Red Bulls, etc. It's like half the population can't function without a coffee in their hands these days. -
Good News---White Sox Still a resonable price
Doc Edwards Shot replied to SCCWS's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wow, parking is FREE in Tampa. That's one thing that often keeps me away from the Cell and Chicago in general - big parking fees. If there's one thing that really irritates me as a suburbanite, it's getting shaken down for a bunch of money the minute I open my car door to get out. It's ridiculous. -
I'm totally OK with the late games on the west coast. My kids are in bed and I have the TV all to myself. Plus, the weather will actually be good vs. having the first games here in Illinois where it could still be snowing. They should do this every year with the MLB scheduling.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) I think the issue is less about the kid and more about the fact that other members of the team didn't want him there. Unless it was Avi who complained, anyone else on the team was more useful than LaRoche last year and if he is bringing a distraction to the clubhouse on top of not performing, then something needs to change. I haven't found any evidence that other players in the clubhouse didn't want the kid there. On the other hand, there is evidence that the players were all going to boycott a game to show their support for LaRoche. It sounds like it was simply a front office decision made by Kenny to approach LaRoche and tell him to not have his son around so much for whatever reason. Maybe not making the playoffs in almost a decade had something to do with Kenny's thoughts on the matter!
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) Assuming the existence of this deal, isn't that exactly what the Sox did? The problem developed, they asked LaRoche to cut back (twice), and HE retired. They didn't weasel out of anything. Yeah, they didn't. They tried and LaRoche rejected the offer and retired. I was mostly responding to the other poster who made it sound like the Sox should just unilaterally make a change to this "deal" without even talking to LaRoche. Perhaps I misunderstood him, but that's what I took away from his post. I'm not taking LaRoche's side in this 100% and condemning the Sox front office. The more I read about this, the more it sounds like it's coming straight from Kenny rather than any of the players in the clubhouse. The players apparently were on LaRoche's side so much that they were ready to boycott a game in solidarity with him.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) I don't care if it was fine last year, or even if there was a handshake agreement when he signed. Things change. If Lawrie/Latos/Frazier/Avila/Navarro or whoever came in and had a problem with it, then they have a right to make changes to the arrangement. Most people in this world would say that when a deal is made, a deal is made. If one party develops a problem with it, they have to either continue to honor it despite their problems or renegotiate it with the other party. They don't just weasel out of it.

I have mixed feelings about this bizarre issue. On one hand, as a manager with direct reports at my work I fully understand the need for standards and maintaining a workplace environment without distractions. I don't know what's been going on with LaRoche's son, but maybe he was a distraction. I can only guess. So I can understand Kenny Williams' position, especially if some other players in the clubhouse complained about Adam's son being there so much. On the other hand, I deeply appreciate LaRoche's desire to have his son around and be a father to him. Parenting is one of the most underrated aspects of society these days. All too often, professional athletes don't give two craps about their kids. They pawn them off on nannies so they can go out and selfishly hit the bars. If more parents actually prioritized the parenting and mentoring of their kids, there wouldn't be so many losers in this world. But I think LaRoche is being weird here. I would have sucked it up for one last season, grabbed the $13 million, and then given it to the kid if I didn't want it. That is A LOT of cash to leave behind when we're only talking about one year. It sounds like Adam let his emotions get the best of him and they made him irrational.

Adam Eaton "Racial" Tweet Controversy
Doc Edwards Shot replied to Jose Abreu's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) That's not what I'm arguing at all, but feel free to create your own agenda. Not surprised in your next post you admitted you were supporting Trump, all starting to make sense. The point is no one should be looking to an athlete for their political view on anything. No one cares, and they have no skin in the game. Can they post anything they choose? Sure. But look at what happened to this situation. What good came from it? And I don't think Eaton said anything remotely offensive. This entire topic is ridiculous. Stick to hitting baseballs. That's why people follow you on Twitter, because you play for their favorite team and they are your fan. I don't need your views on racial equality at an awards show. You didn't say it that way the first time. You basically told someone like Eaton, a professional athlete, that he shouldn't be posting material outside of his baseball activities because you don't want to hear what he has to say. You think he should muffle himself. Hence my bringing up the First Amendment which is the opposite of bubbles. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Exactly. He made a simple tweet. He did nothing wrong. That's one reason Trump winning wouldn't be so bad. This P.C. world is fricking ridiculous. Like that situation at Mizzou. Half that stuff was set up and caused by ACTIVISTS. No wonder Pinkel said the hell with it and got out. He's too old to put up with all this p.c. crap. Poor Eaton. So many celebrities have had careers ruined by little tweets. I don't blame him on this one except he was ridiculously stupid to not realize you can't say what you really think on "social media." He should have thought one thing, said that to his wife, then wrote, "You tell em, Chris Rock! I've always loved Chris Rock and he's great as usual tonight!" I might vote for Trump for just that one reason alone: to combat political-correctness and the increasing stifling of free speech. It's turning into an Orwellian nightmare these days and it has to be stopped. If anyone might be the slightest bit put off by a comment, people are guilt-tripped into apologizing even if no real harm was done. No one can freely speak their minds anymore and it's BS, it's definitely not America. Eaton shouldn't have apologized, he instead should have pulled "a Trump" and boldly denied that he said anything that could even be remotely construed as racist. He shouldn't be catering to the PC extremists. By apologizing, it makes it looks like he DID do something wrong and helps to fuel more PC in a vicious cycle. I sincerely hope that Sox management didn't order him to apologize. That would be a serious chicken-poo move. -

QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 09:26 PM) Dear professional athletes, Unless you are going to use your bloated salaries to affect any sort of real change, shut the hell up and perform on your field of play. That's all we care about. Stick to your day job. The First Amendment applies to professional athletes as well as those of us in this message board. No one has to shut up, this isn't North Korea or Cuba. -
Now that I've thought more about this, I think that if I felt that the Sox ownership didn't make a good-faith effort to stay in Chicago and just wanted to bail for more money, I would ditch them. I wouldn't continue to follow them, they could go F themselves. I think my biggest problem with the idea of starting to follow the Cubs in this fictional scenario is not that I hate the Cubs too much to do it, but rather I wouldn't be able to tolerate their losing ways. For sheite's sake, over 100 years without winning a World Series? Being a fan of the biggest long-term failure in men's professional team sports in practically the entire world? Now THAT is what would keep me from ever becoming a Cubs fan. It would be too embarrassing and I couldn't tolerate being viewed as someone in need of constant sympathy. Maybe I would become a fan of another team...probably the Cardinals since they are pretty damn good as a franchise and they're not too far away. I have friends who live near St. Louis, too. I could also possibly switch to the Texas Rangers. I have a lot of family in the Dallas area. I think it's interesting to hear people talk about maybe becoming fans of the Brewers, Cardinals, Reds, and even the Royals. But I don't see anyone at all talking about switching to one of the other Al Central teams: Indians, Tigers, Twins. I don't blame anyone for that as I don't think I could ever start pulling for any of our hated divisional rivals either. That might even be less likely than becoming a Cubs fan.
