No LaRoche against Lefties please...
Doc Edwards Shot replied to harkness99's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) While he isn't blocking anyone now, he would be blocking whomever the Sox target as his replacement, for next season. If they can dump that salary, they may be able to find a legitimate left handed clean up hitter, which this lineup sorely needs. I think we should stop thinking that it needs to be a leftie and instead pursue a GOOD cleanup hitter. Leftie doesn't mean a hill of beans if the schmuck can't hit. We're now on leftie schmuck #2 in our DH spot. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) This team sucks I was at the game on June 19th and I was at Monday's game. Other than watching Chris Sale pitch there is no reason to be out there NONE. The fundamentals, food etc are all bulls***. Put a good team on the field that is exciting to watch and you will get fans. I know the team sucks, but the stadium food? I think it's as good as it's ever been and the front office has made a good effort to offer interesting things to eat and drink. That's one of the few things they've done right the past several years. The food isn't the problem causing low attendance. It's all of the other things we keep beating the drum about: bad team, unattractive neighborhood situated far away from the Loop with no reputation for partying, second-fiddle stadium to Wrigley, less media coverage, etc.

So glad Beckham got that bunt down...was REALLY going to be pissed if he was the second batter tonight (Sanchez) unable to execute. C'mon Shuck! One time baby! -

Unbelievable on a night like this that we can't scratch across 3 freaking runs and give Sale some support. Total BS. This is undoubtedly the worst Sox offense in my lifetime of 40+ years. Sickening... -

Chris Sale is the most bestest pitcher evar!
Doc Edwards Shot replied to Rowand44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If he stays healthy, he seriously could be Hall Of Fame material. Best Sox pitcher in franchise history. -
Could the Sox get proper value in trading Sale?
Doc Edwards Shot replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This thread is moronic. There is NO WAY the Sox brass are going to trade Sale, arguably the best Sox pitcher in franchise history and with a cheap contract to boot. He's now the face of the franchise. What they're paying for Sale is what Sox fans dream about when we haven't had an ace pitcher and needed to get one. Now that we have a Sale, we're going to trade him away just because we're down in the dumps at the moment? Give me a break. I'll have to see him shopped and traded to believe it's possible. -

Doc Edwards Shot replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This thread is stupid. Sale isn't going anywhere with how good and cheap he is, not to mention the fact that he is probably the best White Sox pitcher we've had in decades. Nope, they're going to hold onto him for the time being and try to fill in pieces around him. You don't trade everything away just because you fell out of contention one season. -
Here's one man's humble opinion: Only a lunatic detached from reality would have a problem with a father taking 3 days off of work to fly thousands of miles from one coast of the USA to the other for a big once-in-a-lifetime family event like a daughter's graduation.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 10:58 PM) We have so many optimistic posts. Sox just let another lousy team rejuvenate its season. Detroit takes 2 of 3 in Chicago after coming in having lost 7 in a row. Sox are a joke ... still. Wake us up when the Sox are five over .500. Then we'll talk. Too many people wearing rose-colored glasses around here. There's no reason at all to believe that this team is suddenly going to go on a major run and play .600+ baseball for an extended period. I'll have to see it to believe it.

White Sox @ Rangers - 6/4/15 - 7:05 CDT - CSN
Doc Edwards Shot replied to lasttriptotulsa's topic in 2015 Season in Review
Captain Obvious just sent me a message: The Sox offense SUCKS!!! 6 hits and only one run in 11 innings with 4 Ranger errors is total BS. This game like so many others is all on our inept hitters. -
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) Operative word: "supposedly". I believe that rumor was from way back in season 1 of the "new Comiskey Park". If memory serves me correctly, someone called the Jonathan Brandmeier show and merely said it happened, but obviously with no evidence to back it up. It was quickly debunked and dismissed by the team, and the story pretty much ended at that. I think you better look that up. It wasn't just a made-up story. I totally remember the nightly news reporting that bullet holes were found in some seats in the new Comiskey Park. And if my memory is perfect, it happened while the stadium was still under construction before the season started. The shots were believed to have come from the Robert Taylor homes on the other side of the highway. Thank God those projects are now gone and the set from Escape From New York isn't there anymore.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) If I were him, I'd keep in shape for a stretch run signing. What are his options if someone comes a calling? He just got paid so much by the White Sox the past 4 years that there's zero pressure on him to continue his nosediving career. He can comfortably retire.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) I agree. I think there should be different clothing for coaches and the manager, even if they've done it for this long. You don't see football coaches dressing up in pads or NBA coaches dressing up in a jersey and shorts. I do not believe this will ever change because people do not believe it to be an issue, but it's really weird when you get to thinking about it. It's a historical thing from the early days of baseball when the manager was also a player. It's not broken, so it shouldn't be fixed. It's one of many things that makes baseball special and sets it apart from other sports.

Should The Sox Buy the Old Post Office For A New Stadium?
Doc Edwards Shot replied to nitetrain8601's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Unless the state wants to dish out another sweetheart lease deal whereby we, the taxpayers, continue to subsidize ownership due to a continuation of attendance problems at this lousy location. I don't think that's going to happen. I don't think the Sox or the state will make that same mistake again. A new and more desirable location may not be obvious now, but when the time comes, this franchise will pull up stakes at 35th and Shields and move the show to a far more advantageous part of the city. Of that, I have no doubts. Dare I say this, but it's not out of the question that the Sox leave Illinois altogether. The next go-around, I sincerely doubt that debt-ridden IL will have the political support to subsidize a new Sox stadium. The Cubs were just rejected by the city and the Bears only got a renovation, not a rebuild. Times will probably be financially tougher 15 years from now, too, not better. I have been a Sox fan for over 30 years, but I'm also a taxpayer and I honestly wouldn't support the IL state government spending taxpayer money on sports - not when they have unfunded pensions and other obligations and owe people out the a**.. -
White Sox @ Tribe 4/13 GAME THREAD
Doc Edwards Shot replied to Steve9347's topic in 2013 Season in Review
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Wasn't good. But then he hit another guy with a fastball behind. That was intentional. Sale's reaction didn't indicate that it was intentional. I think he just let a fastball drift left of the plate into the hitter. If he did it on purpose, he would have been cold as ice rather than reacting with disgust at himself. Indians fans are idiots to be booing about that. If it were the other way around and a Sox hitter just hit a grand slam and the next guy up got hit in the hamstring, I'd be laughing my ass off rather than booing. I wouldn't be mad at all. Then again, Indians fans are the biggest idiots in the division. They were the ones incessantly booing Jim Thome for no good reason a few years ago. They're even dumber than Cubs fans who think they're righteous by throwing opponents' home run balls on the field. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Frank is the only correct answer. Maybe for the regular season, but definitely not for the playoffs. As I recall, Frank was a big choker in the postseason. He never did much. In fact, I remember him not even getting a friggin' hit in all 3 games of the 2000 ALDS against the Mariners. Not even one bloop single - NADA. Needless to say, that helped the Mariners with A-Rod, Griffey Jr., and Edgar Martinez sweep the series. I'll take Konerko for the playoffs, thank you. That grand slam he hit in game 2 of the World Series was arguably the single greatest moment in the entire history of this franchise. Maybe even better than winning game 4 to end the series and jump around on the field as champions.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/fan_fo...p?loc=executive It looks like the broadcasting experience on the list might get the buyer near Hawk and Stone. At least an autographed ball is guaranteed. I wonder how much one of these fantasies costs.

I'm glad that the Sox didn't pick up Youk's $13 million option. I didn't really think they would, but... $13 million for one season should only be spent on All-Star caliber players rather than overrated, declining guys with .225 BAs who don't play good defense and get injured on a regular basis. I totally prefer getting Keppinger over keeping Youkilis around.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) Worth remembering is that this is Beckham's first arbitration year...thus, he's going to rapidly get more expensive. He'll only get paid a couple million this year, but in arb year 2, we're starting to talk about >$5 million for 1 year territory, and the last couple years he has simply not been worth that. This should be Beckham's last year to prove himself. The defense is definitely there, but he is unacceptable offensively in terms of BA, OBP, and OPS. If he goes the whole 2013 season hitting less than .240 again with a sub .300 OBP, he should be gone before 2014.
