  1. Watching Zumaya, I guess it is possible for someone throwing over a 100 to actually stay over 100 for more than 5 months. Jenks? not so much.
  2. Robertson has lived on the outside corner of the plate. We have yet to record a hit. Coincidence? Molina's last swing says everything -- attempting to pull an outside pitch to the leftside for a weak out. SSI can't like what he's seeing.
  3. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat Open for the coalition of the willing.
  4. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) No BA in the lineup. Pablo Gooch Thome Konerko Dye Crede Erstad Uribe Molina Ridiculous. So, he's not starting against right handers or left handers? Honestly, I would love a scenario from this point forward where the ballclub gells together and score runs; and Erstad is absolutely atrocious. Every multi-hit game he gives the Whtie Sox only extends his time in CF.
  5. Robertson still throws with his left hand, right? It'll be a battle, as usual, against moderately successful southpaws who can locate. Contreras better be on his game.
  6. boobies. I just want to add my name to this historic thread when future Soxtalkians look it up.
  7. QUOTE(pale_hose @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) These are the White Sox we have waited all offseason for. The sticks are cracking, the pitching is great...This is the spark we need to get it going! Sparks don't occur in baseball. With 162 games, it's common to look at moments and determine whether they were the turning point in a season -- but it won't suddenly inspire everyone to be more consistent a week from now. If they do happen to come around, it'll be more because the offense is starting to improve rather then this no-hitter meaning anything.
  8. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) 4 2/3rd's IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's So, do people still believe accepting only Floyd and Gonzalez for Garcia was fine because he may never pitch again? The above line appears to indicate his arm is infact attached to his body.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) SAY HELLO TO YOUR NEW LEADOFF HITTER CHICAGO!!! .171/.239/.244/.483 That's right you are not seeing things, that's a .483 OPS! But who cares!? He'll grind the s*** out of your face. I'd love to hear the annoucers of opposing teams reading off the lineup card, and having to control their laughter when a graphic says, "1. Erstad - CF - .171."
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Is every pitcher's velocity down from where it was 2 years ago? Thornton doesn't seem close to the 97 mph mark he was at last year. MacDougal's slider has been great this year, but his fastball has been in the 91 mph range. It's just weird that other teams seem so much fresher offensively and on the mound. MacDougal's HR pitch to Sosa was clocked at 93mph. With him, I honestly believe our coaching staff refined his mechanics to gain control at the expense of several miles per hour. Thornton is definitely not throwing 97. Last I seen, he was 93-94. And I know the radar guns of various stations have been put into question, but aside from Buehrle, no one really seems up to the velocity of previous seasons. On FOX several weeks ago Vazquez couldn't hit anything higher than 91. Contreras and Garland are below past seasons, and while it's difficult to judge with DAnks, the reports I read drastically over-valued his fastball. As well as Massets.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) Garland says he mentally gave up. What in the hell is wrong with this team? As someone pointed out earlier, we've won 39 of our last 89 games. If we're not careful, the Tigers are going to get a huge lead on us. Amazing. It's always a good sign when a starting pitcher admits he mentally gave up during a crucial inning several weeks into the season.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) They should of crushed him. He is a basic 2 pitch pitcher. I know Hawk thinks that he has 9 pitches. But it was 2. You eliminate the change, and you get into a hitters count. This team for years would suck against soft tossers, but fastball pitchers who challenge them get rocked. Put it this way -- never have straight fastball down the middle in hitters counts looked so devastating. The team wide struggles have to make you believe that whatever Walker is instructing these hitters to do, it's easily being exploited by opposing pitchers. We're recoginizing their flaws as fastballs and offspeed pitches located on the outside corner. I'm afraid, judging from their offensive output (ranked amongs the worst in the league) other teams have caught on. It could be a LOOONNNGG year ahead of us. What's overlooked in this loss is how Garland failed to exceed 89 mph on his fastball (WCIU didn't even have a radar gun), and Pierzynski's plate calling was horrendous.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Do you see this team playing 700 ball for a good part of the season. Especially against the tought left handed pitching we face in the central. Atleast it'll get better in future seasons.... Oh wait, Andrew Miller and Francisco Liriano will return. They have the unfortunate advantage of throwing hard from their left arm. And none of the dominating lefties will leave, unless Minnesota trades Santana. Which I personally doubt would happen unless they receive a huge return.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) At least I am a trend setter. I was way ahead of the curve on this one. To think of all the s*** you received these last several years when the issue of Walker was brought us. Especially with the dearly departed, JimH. Yeah, sort of reminds me of my crusade against our minor league system. I was continually criticized until the trades of Garcia and McCarthy, then people suddenly realized we needed young pitching to compensate for the lack of immediate talent. Not to mention the flaws of our "safe" draft philosophy.
  15. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) A.J. was two for three tonight. Sure he called for a fastball when a slider may have been a better choice, but he didn't want Mac to throw it right down the middle. He set up on the outer third of the plate and probably expected the ball to tail away. MacDougal's two seam fastball runs into right handers. Pierzynski should have held his glove in the center of hte plate and expected it to tail inside on Sosa's hands. Obviously, our coaches haven't seen much film because every thread I read about Sosa on LoneStar baseball (a Texas Rangers forum) suggests he hasn't shown the ability to hit anything aside from a fastbal. So, even after swinging and missing on a slider, Pierzynski decides to throw an outside fastball. Ridiculous.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) The pink fuzzy bunny just blamed the weather. He can go away any day now. What's going to be hilarious is when the weather warms, the offense increases, and appropriately enough, the pitching begins to tail off.
  17. Choke Crede is quickly emerging. That strikeout pitch was embarrassing to watch. The least he could do is hit well and make himself worthy of a trade.
  18. Well, atleast we know Molina is incapable of judging a strikezone or catching up to a 90 mph fastball.
  19. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Kinsler is on fire. Where's our Ian Kinsler?
  20. From watching Sosa destroy our pitching, I just have a feeling that if McCarthy pitches against our lineup he'll dominate. It would only be fitting of our season thus far.
  21. Can anyone reasonably explain the phenomenon we're witnessing tonight. It's utterly amazing and unique in its own regard. The weater.........apparently.......shifts 30 degrees when we're up to bat and then returns to 70 when Texas is up. This is really the only explanation for what we've seen. Hawk has told me when it's cold, no one hits -- so I can only assume there's some amazing shift in climate every half inning.
  22. You know things are going good when Sosa takes you deep. Also, just for the purposes of complimenting myself, Buehrle>Wood and I called this. We figured the most embarrassing event was destined to occur. And it happened.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) If not for C.C.'s fielding gaffe, would Erstad by like 0 for his last 25 now? Again, thanks for nothing this offseason KW with this offense. I'll wait until May before judging this offense. Williams has assembled a World Series championship. Give him a chance. These are just two of the many excuses you'll hear if performances such as tonight continue. Both concerning the pitching and offense.
  24. Well, there goes the theory that the cold weather is effecting both teams. Texas sure had no problem scoring off of Garland, there.
