Where's the party on Sunday?
Flash Tizzle replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well, my plans have changed. I don't know how I could have been so naive as to expect otherwise, but the neighborhood bar I was planning on attending with friends apparently has a $50 cover charge. Are they f***ing serious? I don't care if food is provided and limited alcoholic drinks are free -- no one can possibly reach the $50 mark without gorging themselves or drinking an absurd amount of hard liquor. If I didn't have school Monday, or an actual interest in watching the game, I wouldn't mind paying. It's just ridiculous to me that I can't even watch a damn game without catoring to the greed of some damn bar owner. I guarantee they'd draw more cusotmers if no restrictions were imposed and everyone were allowed in. Pisses me off. -

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Like most of what you all said, prefer to be alone or with family. Don't want to be surrounded by people who aren't even fans of the team... or even game. So planning to go a relatives house and enjoy the game. It's inevitable any venue with a large number of people will have their collection of casual fans. Or merely those attaching themselves to the spectable of a Superbowl and using it as an excuse to drink. As I said in my last post, I watched the World Series at home -- and certaintly didn't enjoy it any more because of the privacy. If anything, win or lose, I'll have more than enough time to reflect upon the game afterwards. If this were a normal Superbowl I wouldn't even go out. Obviously, this year is different. No one should have to spend it by themselves. -

You know, I thought about watching the game at home; but after what happened during the World Series I'd like to experience a Superbowl with fellow fans. Closest I'll get to Miami. Game four in Houston I was bogged down studying for two exams. In a way, I was hoping we'd lose because the 3-1 would still be highly insurmountable. It would have given me an opportunity to atleast watch it with friends. So on Sunday, Game-Time in Palos Heights is my destination. -

Fields and Danks in 1st annual ESPN Scouts Inc. top 25
Flash Tizzle replied to Vance Law's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, you indirectly answered one of the questions I posed in another thread. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry1348466 -
How many lefthanders are ranked ahead of Danks on both lists? How about pitchers overall?

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) If you think this is offensive, don't watch comedy anymore Not offensive to me. Offensive to every group, specifically blacks, who may be insulted by a white girl reinforcing stereotypes on a stand-up stage. Especially in the wake of Richards' rant.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) i loathe comedians like this. OH MAN CARLOS MENCIA CALLS THEM BEANERS LOLOLOLOL I haven't laughed one time since I've first watched. It's just worthy of a view for no other point than the fact she's a caucasian women insulting nearly every ethnicity and culture within our country. Watch it before the inevitable hammer comes down on her act.
-
Has anyone seen this comedian Lisa Lampanelli on Comedy Central tonight? LOL, Wow. I don't believe I've seen a more offensive act in, well, atleast 10 years. It's unbelievable because I'm not use to this sort of comedy. Especially within our current culture. I've been watching for 15 minutes and already she's insulted people with down syndrome, pregnant women, hispanics, blacks (ex: mentioning how they smell like cocoa butter and have a chemical within their body called "watemellan" Now she's mentioning how the only thing shorter than a Jews dick is a black man's to-do list. You people have to see this act to believe it. Reruns will be shown several more times tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if she's absolutely murdered within the press this upcoming week. It's so incredibly refreshing in one sense to hear her material; yet, not very compelling since the jokes aren't very funny and only rely on shock value.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) They have faith in a Minny rotation of Santana, Bonser, Silva, Garza and Perkins. Any doubt he'll dominate?

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) Other players the Sox passed on to take Broadway: Carillo,Pawelek, Jacob Ellsbury, Craig Hansen, Colby Rasmus, Chris Volstad, and Aaron Thompson. It looks like there may have been a lot of talent in the 2005 draft. Higher picks often slip down because of signability concerns. Wasn't Hansen projected as a top five selection in 2005? If we're willing to pay someone the money REGARDLESS of agent (ahem, Boras) we can find ourselves decent pitchers at our draft position. Christ, what other option is there for us? Latin American talent is non existent and we're not willing to sign pitching deals beyond 3 years. If we're intending on building our system by trading veteran starting pitchers, we'll first need Danks/Gonzalez to step up. Everything falls into place from there.

QUOTE(G&T @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) BTW, I haven't really heard him say anything about ex-players this off season except that he believes the guys they are getting are better than what he gave up, which is what he should be saying. It's different this offseason because no franchise players have left via free agency. Let's see how Williams handles Buehlre departing, then Crede etc. in the upcoming seasons.

I'm glad he has recognized the problem, although it wasn't nearly to the extent I envisioned before opening this thread. We're not competing within this division with Lance Broadway anchoring a pitching staff. Williams didn't bring in a handful of projectable pitching prospects because he has faith in our own. With his public announcement regarding long term deals for pitchers, suitable replacements are needed immediately. I don't believe, as we've seen with Buehrle, every starter will be traded. Several will pitch for our club through their contract year. Thus, production from within is crucial to sustaining success. I just hope one/two of Danks, Gonzalez, and Sisco reach their potential. Personally, I believe if Danks is a bust (which may take several years to determine) there should be an overhaul within our scouting department. Its been mentioned within print that our scouts have monitored Texas' system for quite awhile, no? There should be accountability if these individuals have placed enough faith in Danks/Massett that trading McCarthy was necessary. Brandon's production goes a long way towards determing their faith as well. Also, on another note, it's sort of a convoluted argument to suggest Borchard wasn't a failure because he brought us Thornton. So? His return value has no bearing on the player he was expected to be once his production increased within our system. Or, even earlier than that, when a tremendous signing bonus was awarded. Expectations were sky-high for him.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) I didn't hear much about it either, but I think the Bears had a lot to do with the lack of coverage. I think is was sold out right? Yeah, the Bears playing in the Superbowl likely pushed them to back, but I'm still surprised it was buried. Two weeks between games presents a lot of time to cover other sporting events within our city. I couldn't even tell you where Soxfest is, let alone whether it's sold-out. I do know the venue was changed from its usual location-- that's about it.
-
Seriously, I had no idea Soxfest was this weekend. The marketing department did a poor job advertising. I read both Chicago papers during the week and I don't recall either posting upcoming previews about this.

QUOTE(rpmahr @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) honestly it doesnt matter wat kenny williams says because a) buerhle is in a contract year so he needs to pitch well in order to get the money so the words wont affect his performance b. it seems that we arent interested in signing him anyways because if he does has a great season we wont want to dish out the money and long term deal to keep him or if he has a poor season the price would have to be real good for us to take it....so either way buerhle will prolly not be with us next season maybe not even after the all-star break That's not entirely true. More important than his statistics is his health. If Jason Marquis is receiving 21million over three years for posting a delicious 6ERA/1.5WHIP in the National League, what would Buehrle get?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) It is a business and if we aren't willing to pay our guys what is fair than we shouldn't be in the business. I'm sorry, we can't just come in here planning on paying guys nothing. I'm not saying we give them the prices this years ridiculous market offers, but at the same time you can't be unwilling to pay guys market level and just be a cheapass org because that will never work. If Buehrle avoided his utterly embarrasing second half, I would have been willing to agree with you. I have nothing available to back up my opinion, but I believe it's obvious his post ASB slide worried the organization. Suddenly, Buehrle wasn't his usual self -- but infact, was the worst starting pitcher in baseball. There's a large body of work which suggests he'll rebound, but you can't completely dismiss the amoung of innings he's thrown since 2001. Signing him beyond 5 years at 15-16 million may not be a smart move for this team. Pitchers with question marks, even those with a resume such as Buehrle, shouldn't be handed a blank check. However, I do agree the low-ball offer they presented is disgusting. Cmon -- did Williams believe he loves Chicago enough to walk away from the 40+ million another organization (Cardinals) may present?
-
I've grown weary of these continuous battle of words among departing (or soon to be) players and Williams. Don't suggest, "I don't see where it's a 'battle," either, because it's obvious what's occuring. It's not even an issue of paying whichever player their desired salary -- it's just, personally, I'd like to have one season pass without bickering among Sox players and management. I'm sure the next several seasons will be tremendous with Crede, then Contreras and Garland. And to further clairify my position, I don't question William's reluctance to sign pitchers long-term. The sheer number of pitching prospects acquired this offseason have, at the least, provided him with a stronger system. This is a philosophy I've continually supported; although slightly differed with our organization regarding the return of traded players. What I hope for Williams' sake is Gonzalez and Danks immediately produce once either fill a vacant rotation spot. That McCarthy character better not significantly improve, either.

Guillen was interviewed on Jim Rome last year, and sometime during their discussion replied, "psssh.........please." For what reason I don't know, because I caught the clip during an end-of-the-year compilation. I believe Axl is referring to this.

You should be banned solely because your request involves an interview conducted on Jim Rome's atrocious radio show.

Anyone watching FOX news? Byron Harlen, or whomever he is, is definitely sucking on some sort of alcoholic beverage. He asks one fan whether or not he's happy a black coach won. Fair enough, but then proceeds to say, "you happy for the black man" several times. After this, turns on a radio which plays the superbowl shuffle. Suggests the fans should begins dancing "soul-train style." Corey McPheron didn't appear to know what to say after that, lol.
