  1. Another stolen base off Pierzynski. Nothing new. PS: CHAT ROOM, people.
  2. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 9, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) My favorite piece of this article: I find it funny that Kenny Williams gets no love for sticking his butt out and jettisoning Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Lee and Jose Valentin to bring in Iguchi, El Duque, Dustin Hermanson, Scott Podsednik, Jermaine Dye and A.J. Pierzynski for the same relative cost. If Billy Beane does that, we have to wipe the drool off the street. -- Chris D., Madison, Wisc. (1:21 p.m.) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...tter/index.html Absolutely. Beane trades Mulder and Hudson for SP/RP prospects and his supporters proclaimed him a genius. Again. Speaking of Beaneball, let's reflect on their offense in comparison with MLB: -AVG: 28th -OBP: 26th -SLUG: 30th Anyone willing to admit Hawk may have been correct when he assumed, "You can do anything you want with three 20 game winners." I'm positive Oakland's offense will rebound (Chavez certaintly will have more than 7 XBH), but for the moment I'll eagerly point out their offensive inefficiencies.
  3. I'm completely forget about this preseason fiasco. Any trade scenario in which four players (two major league contributers, two prospects; possibly higher tier) are traded for one player, even if that person is Randy Johnson, is terrible managing. I'm glad Williams avoided Arizona's ridiculous demands. Ultimately, both teams are better now because of their respective moves, so no harm is done. Now, let's all reflect on this thread and laugh at those who supported a RJ trade. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...%20johnson&st=0
  4. A specialist shouldn't be considered a specialist unless he holds a particular batter (LH/RH) under .200. Walker doesn't fit this bill. A specialists role is primarily for the 6th/7th inning. Beyond this inning, a manager will PH for a player. But again, Walker's hardly pitching well against LHH.
  5. QUOTE(Wedge @ May 6, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) No, but it gets really old to see one basically every day. There is definitely a subset of Sox fans that wants to feel slighted by the media. You need look no further than today's Mariotti thread. Jay basically summarized our season so far and played pretty nice and we see a number of posters go off on him for slamming our team. I guess it's just irritating to me because there are some really good fans here who really appreciate baseball, and yet it seems like half the threads that end up getting generated are about the media and "how they rip us". I guess this is why I'm a proponent of a separate "media" or "ESPN" or "BBTN" board or some combination. I understand it can be repetitive. But honestly, why such dislike for a topic which can easily avoided? Of the 20 threads on this board's 'Pale Hose Talk', only four (including this) are devoted to media coverage. It's hardly a problem as some make it out to be. Usually the members creating the media threads are not the same people who repetively post on media biasm. Although recent Jabroni threads may indicate otherwise. It's the person turing on the TV and noticing Baseball Tonight covering our club. Or the member feeling John Kruk unfailry questioned the loyalty of our fanbase. We're slighting these members with arrogant "Who Cares?" posts.
  6. QUOTE(southsider17 @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Trivial indeed. The media is irrelevant. BLK (Be Like Kenny) > "We don't care!" Irrelevant to our success, yes; but I still find media coverage a topic worth discussing. Does it really effect anyone personally whether or not their are Baseball Tonight or "ESPN SUX" threads? Whenever someone posts a new media thread, and I notice someone complaining, it becomes irritating. Whenever this occures, we're creating a WSI environment in which members are reluctant to speak their minds on an issue. For example: In the chat room last week I questioned the obsession with Willie Harris on Soxtalk. On numerous occasions there has been heated debates surrounding his role. People feel very strongly for him, and although I don't share this, I wouldn't say "Who Cares?" whenever a thread popped up. EDIT: I understand someone "speaking their minds on an issue" may include dismissing media threads. You're certainlty entitled to express it.
  7. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) If you say something contraversial to a long time member some other long time member will be sure to remind you that because you lack the number of posts you have no right to say anything. And don't you forget it. These 4,000+ posts entitle me to dismiss your opinions at will. Also, White Sox Josh, be weary of creating threads which illustrate the local and national media biases of our club. Several outspoken members dislike this. Personally, I feel it's hilarious when members get worked up over such a trivial issue, but some feel it's necessary to enforce imaginary message board guidelines. Besides these minor glitches, Soxtalk is a great venue to discuss White Sox baseball. Enoy and spread the word.
  8. I'd be shocked if Kansas City ever traded Graffinino to the White Sox. Unless we're willing to overpay, which ultimately won't be much; perhaps Adkins or Diaz, how often do cellar teams trade within their division? Often, it only occurs when a large, albatross contract is removed.
  9. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) they don't tell me until I'm on the train and two miles from me car that "this trains last stop is Blue Island/Vermont street... what an adventure getting to work... worst of all my partner has the day off... so I couldn't just throw in the towel and get to the cell by 1:00 I feel ye. Metra is usually good for a few of these derailments every year. When I woke up this morning and noticed "South Suburb Metra Delay" scrolling across the screen I couldn't believe it. Luckily, the Southwest Service was not effected. What's odd is yesterday I was talking to a friend about Metra finding the worst occasions to experience malfunctioning equipment or otherwise ridiculous delays. Yesterday, our train was delayed 45 minutes because a car was stalled on the tracks. Tow truck arrives 20 minutes after we stop, attempts to pull the car off the tracks, and instead tears off the bumper. As a ticket attendant said, "it was a comedy of errors." Because of this delay, I show up 20 minutes late for my final. Couldn't have happened on any other day.
  10. If i'm not mistaken, 2005 is Cashman's final year under contract. I believe Steinbrenner may follow the route of Dodgers/Red Sox and hire an economics orientated (moneyball) general manager. There are plently of ivy league graduates outside of Beane's inner cult who could adequately replace Cashman. You just have to assume King George is fed up with a $200 million dollar payroll losing to teams with payrolls 1/6 of theirs.
  11. Tribune has been all over Sox-bashing columns/comments these last few weeks. Whether it's SI's "Worst Team's to Root For," or Kruk's recent remarks, there's always a columnist willing to print this garbage. I don't blame them. Must be excruciating to report winning baseball on the Southside while Team-Dusty is imploding. I'll take it, though. If these articles are the worst Sox fans have to worry about we're fine.
  12. QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) Theres no reason for Cotts to be pitching there, but where else will he get work? our starters have been outstanding. Now, that is in no way an excuse for his BB/9 IP ratio. I'm just saying that I think it will be less of a problem when he is doing the long relief role he is groomed for. Another Neal Cotts apologist. I swear, between last season and this season the kid can do no wrong. Nothing is every his fault. If Ozzie decides to use Cotts for one batter, regardless of his perceived long relief role, his job is to retire the hitter. He failed. Doesn't change my confidence in his abilities, but I understand Ozzie's frustration. Nothing is more irritating than a reliever walking the first batter he faces upon entering the game.
  13. I love this excerpt: :headshake
  14. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Too bad if you do not like it, but as an owner, I know I would say :fyou to the Sox fans and move the team IF we cannot get at least a 25% improvement in attendance this year from last year if we continue to stay in 1st place throughout At some point, you have to make a business decision and say WTF is the point? If winning is not enough, nothing EVER will be. You may not the like the truth, but I would not blame JR one bit if he decided that was the way to go if we did not get better attendance this year. And again, why is everyone here so sensitive about this. This is not meant as a jab to any of the Sox fans here. It is clear (at least to me) that everyone is here is die hard and passionate and want to see the Sox succeed. Since when do Sox fans care what's in the best interest of management? It's obvious why we're "so sensitive" about this issue: fans here are accustomed to attending games off 35th and Shields. This team is an important part of many peoples' lives, and usually the relocation of a team is never heralded by media/fans. How do Cleveland feel when they intially lost their football team? Or Washington with baseball in the late 70's? It's rather moronic to suggest moving the team if attendance doesn't spike 25%. Reinsdorf is a business savvy individual who knows the earning potential of his products. Removing baseball from this market will never happen. This team earns a playoff spot, attendance will surpass 2 million. He operates this team, at worst, to break even. JR won't relocate this organization. It's really that simple.
  15. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 3, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) Well its not as if Kruk is wrong on this... the Sox have the best record in the ML and only 12,000 people show up to the game... given thought I wasn't there so f*** me too lol I'll never admit Kruk's right. About anything. This redundant attendance issue is no different. It's been discussed countless times on this site. You factor in school, weather, opposing team and traditional April attendance, 12,000 showing up should surprise noone. PS: Nice pic of Raven Riley. Would recognize her anywhere.
  16. Not this topic again. When criticizing the team isn't possible, just resort to April attendence. Works for Cub fans.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) I figure that Hawk and/or Ozzie will address this tomorrow. You know that this isnt going to be left alone. Round 3. Big Dan McCarthy calls Hawk and Kotex boy to the middle of the ring, Are you ready, Are you ready. LETS GET IT ON!!! You can count on Hawk to appropriately address this Mariotti problem. "For today's Pick to Click, presented by Heineken, DJ and Big Jim Angeo are going with Joe Crede, The Crew has selected Aaron Rowand, and-- the SPINMASTER Jay Mariotti and myself have chosen Timo Perez."
  18. This is absolutely hysterical. Rincon will undoubtedly go through hell after his suspension is over. Too bad we'll have to wait several months before the next White Sox/Twins meeting. Unfortunately for the Twins, three divisional games with the Indians await them . Let's hope this serves as a distraction. Although it probably won't. Some scrub will be promoted and dominate in Rincon's absence.
  19. DJ's home run call? Awesome. How long until fans bring "UH OH....GOODBYE" signs to The Cell?
  20. Surprised no thread has yet to surface on Wood(s) latest injury. He will be reevaluated Monday in Chicago. But hey, regardless of any potential DL stinct, atleast he struck out 6 hitters yesterday. That's all that matters.
  21. Phew, atleast its not another torn labrum.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/04/30/wilbanks.found/index.html If you dont want to get married then just say so asshole, dont make frantic 911 calls saying you've been kidnapped setting off a nationwide search. :rolly Bugged-eyed broad picked the wrong time to pull this stunt. Media is currently salivating over blue collared kidnappings in Southern states. The hundreds of volunteers must feel relieved she's alived, but absolutely disgusted she wasted thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours searching for her whereabouts. Funny though, I was browsing Yahoo! message boards, and the consensus appeared to be the husband was involved. Nope. Just another emotionally disturbed individual.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) Swinging the bat well? He had 1 hit and it should have been caught. How many rallies does Dead have to kill before people stop defending him? He has done poorly recently, but Ozzie should wisely select the games he benches Dye. Today is not one of them.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) Willie's still in the lineup, Jermaine swings the bat pretty well last night and gets put on the bench tonight: What's worse is Jermaine has faired well against Johnson (.333/.400/.900) in 18 AB's. Obviously, these numbers precede this season, but it's hardly worthy of pine time. How is Dye expected to break out of his slump and contribute to this team when he sits against mediocre pitchers?
  25. If anyone recalls the three storied Ghostbusters headquarters set, for several years I regretted giving the toy to a neighbor. My mom asked me one day if I would like to give it up, and being the ignorant kid whose attention had shifted to TMNT, I approved. No more than a week later I realized my mistake and begged my parents to purchase another headquarters. Oddly enough, none of the toy chains or merchandise stores sold the item. It had been discontinued. What was weird is no less than two weeks earlier I walked passed it in Toys-R-Us. Eh, some kid in Ohio probably choked on a piece from the set. Toys were dangerous back then.
