Wait?! Wait for Odalis Perez, Placido Palanco, El-Duque, AJ Piercynski to be signed while we're anticipating this trade? Did you not say yourself, earlier today, Williams must move quickly? I can honestly visualize a snag occuring in this trade (ie; Penny failing physical) in which everything falls apart and we're left with our pants down. We're better served exploring other options then waiting for this neverending trade to become finalized.

OPTION 1: Rotation: Buehrle/Garicia/Vazquez/Contreras/Grilli Lineup: Podsednik Rowand Everett/Thomas Dye Crede Uribe Gload Cora Davis/Burke OPTION 2: Rotation: Buehrle/Garcia/Contreras/Garland/(FA starter) *Bullpen with Marte Lineup: Podsednik Rowand Everett/Thomas Konerko Dye Crede Uribe Harris (FA addition) Davis/Burke (FA addition) Which is more appealing? EDIT: Neglected to include remainder of bullpen.

Where exactly will this money come from to sign Delgado? Marte/Garland/Konerko for Vazquez/additional player won't leave this club enough money to land Delgado.
-
Is this the price Sox fans pay for management finally asssembling a complete pitching rotation?
-
You suggest here Marte/Garland aren't the players in the trade, yet the article posted contradicts your statement. I believe you may have copied the same article referenced earlier in this thread. What time was the piece updated?

These news publications, ideally those in New York, have been terrible reporting accurate news. Why can't Williams simply sign a 5th starter outside this organization and upgrade IF/C positions? It's too f***ing simple for him to accept, obviously.
-
I seriously don't envision many scenarios in which this trade benefits the Sox. If Konerko/prospects is exchanged for Vazquez, the following must occur for my approval: - Steinbrenner pays atleast 20 million of Vazquez's 34 million contract. I estimate this amount is needed to offset departure of Konerko. Benefit: 10 million available to persue FA. Probabily: f***ing unlikely. Vazquez
-
Cash doesn't need to be exchanged. New York simply pays a substantial portion of Vazquez's contract. Meanwhile our offense is depleted and no further money is available.
-
I hope someone in the Sox organization slaps Williams upside the head. Trading Konerko/Prospects for Vazquez (assuming NYY eat 10mil of Vazquez contract) is a complete wash. Solid rotation, putrid offense. :puke

Great. Lose out on Clement and this is where we're left. This is exactly why I rather overpay cash for the services of a starting pitcher. If options we're either sign Matt Clement or intiate a Garland/Marte/konerko swap-a-roo, many here would have applauded paying MC 25mill/3yrs. How exactly does this trade proposal benefit us? Trade Garland, Marte, Konerko for VAZQUEZ!? Christ, he may pitch marginally better than Garland with a larger salary and three key members of our team gone. Williams might as well have traded directly for Johnson with this package. Does Williams comprehend the offensive output forsaken these last few weeks? Lee, Ordonez, and potentially Konerko all gone. 75+HR's, 270+RBI's replaced with Podsednik, Everett/Dye, Gload/Cheap FA. If it ever came down to this salary dump, we're sitting on atleast 12 million; conservatively estimating New York eats 10 million of Vazquez's contract. With this salary, Odalis Perez or Carlos Delgado is a White Sox. No questions asked.

Besides Perez, Miller would be the best available target for the Sox. With the market as it is, and questions concerning his shoulder, offering Miller a two year-incentive laden contract is reasonable. whitesox9143, whichever clubs unable to sign Perez will be front runners for Miller; if available. Figure Dodgers, Angels, White Sox are three teams which will battle it out for these two starters.
-
According to MLB.com, a deal is close to completion between the original three clubs (LA, AZ,NY). Appears one less opportunity is available for Willaims to upgrade the rotation. Blockbuster deal gains Momentum I count 9 players in this deal.
-
Too bad Matt Clement isn't Latin. Then he could promote Ozzie Guillen and his international clubhouse as a reason to sign with the White Sox. WAIT, Perez is still available! Let's hope he'll consider Guillen and sign 4 million under the contract of another orgnanization.

Windsocks? Sounds like another disgruntled WSI member jumped ship. Spring training may be four months from now, but the time left between now and then means nothing when the pitchers available are s***. Fine, approve a trade for Burnett and create a hole on another area of our team. Besides the bullpen, there's not one area of strength with the Sox. Get rid of Konerko, you've effectively lost three key members of your offense this offseason. Get rid of Garland, rotation is in shambles with medicore talent left over. We can't give up Andersen/Sweeney/McCarthy; need help from system to relieve pressure of signing high priced talent. It would be nice entering an offseason with one less concern because a minor league prospect is capable of filling it.
-
All depends on who you desonate as the 5th starter. This distinction may change during the course of the season. Esteban Loaiza was termed White Sox 5th starter in 03'.
-
LOL, now we'll lose out on Hernandez to the Dodgers. I seriously wonder what Williams plan is. His options are overpay for the remaining pitchers (NOT named Shawn Chacon) or sit on the money and risk unprecedented criticism. He has to figure out whether including Konerko in a potential trade for Vazquez signficantly improves this ballclub. Our rotation is complete, but now a huge power source is abscent from our lineup. Acquiring FA's is the safest route of improving your club while giving up the least (draft pick) in return.
-
FWIW, Milton declined 6 million from the YANKEES because he believed more money was deserving. Dumb bastard; playing hardball with the Yankees as if they're desperate for him.
-
Interesting..... Suppose it all depends on his asking price, and if Scott Boras is representing him. Do you think he'll take a home-town discount to play for an organization caught in a whirlwind of mediocrity?
-
This is why we will never get FAs at market price

Let's not blame Boston for paying the money and Clement's agent for blatantly lying. What's truly bulls*** is the White Sox don't have prestigue or a commitment to winning. You're correct to assume it was all about the money, but its rather odd how the teams (Angels/Boston) which offered the most are in the best position to win. -
How can they take it seriously? White Sox dont' have a minor league system because talent is used to acquire players (midseason) ignored in the offseason due to cheapness. It's an neverending cycle of mediocrity.
-
Jason, you know this is unlikely. What, will Anaheim unexpectantly decide their out of the bidding for Perez after losing out on Clement?
-
Of course he'd rather choose Boston and Anaheim over the White Sox. Those organizations have shown commitments to winning. One method of "convincing" a free agent pitcher to choose White Sox as his destination is to overpay........ Well, atleast Shawn Chacon's suitors will be comprised of a few desperate teams.
-
Don't worry about the White Sox interest in Perez. It's unlikely they'll sign him. Angels offered a contract similar to Boston, and they can sure as hell be expected to shift the money over to Perez.
-
Get used to it. Cheat, most noteably, has insisted the pitchers available during this offseason were unworthy of the contracts that obtained. He's right, but what are we to do? Whine the market is unreasonable and search through the bargain bins? Next season, IF Johan Santana and Ben Sheets are available, could you imagine Reinsdorf paying either 10 million over 4 years? I'll guarantee both pitchers will garner contracts beginning with this amount. Both are worth the price, but its unlikely we'll outbid other clubs for their services. This isn't an abberation, just evidence of an emerging pattern.
-
Let's reflect back on the beginning of this offseason, shall we? I've been telling all of you this is to expect from this organization. You can NOT give them any consideration in signing ANY legitimate FA's. Sure Dye, Hermanson is decent signings, but how about the area of our club which has led to our downfall? No additional starter has yet to be signed, despite Williams noted priority in obtaining one. Hope all members have come to realize the true nature of this club. It doesn't matter if Williams would have payed Clement 25mil/3yrs, because he would be a welcomed addition to this club. I don't understand how people can applaud this. Overpaying for the area of this team which has been attributed to our downfall is well worth the price. There is time remaining for Williams to redeem himself. All I know is he must move quickly. Waiting for the bidding wars to end for Perez may be too late.
