White Sox @ Rangers
I'm getting the point where just watching Peavy pitch is beginning to annoy me. Where did his velocity go from the last start?

GT: Fri 4/23, SEA (9-7) @ CWS (5-11), 7:10pm
Is this Rowland any relation to Aaron Rowland, former White Sox CF?

What a disaster this rotating DH NL lineup idea is...
In future seasons, we'll reflect on this year and realize it did benefit us in several ways -- 1. Top 10 Draft Pick 2. End of rotating DH 3. End of listening to Guillen's opinion on how to construct a roster 4. End of Kotsay and Vizquel (although there's always going to be the next Kotsay and Vizquel as long as we have anyone on the bench).

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) It's sad knowing Ozzie would never have the balls to release Vizquel. It's not even worth rooting for him to do bad so that he'll get DFA'd. 1.Veteran pride 2.Hero in Venezuela 3. Left handed bat 4. Spicy Latin temper (all Latin players have it in their blood) He's not leaving

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) In the third week of April? I don't know. I haven't bothered looking, as it doesn't matter this time of year. Please, you seem like an intelligent poster; don't start copying the talking points of the baseball retarded. If we keep playing like this, soon we'll be wondering what happened when it's August and we're 15 games out; you know, the time baseball games begin counting to some people.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Like the Twins, the Rays are a team with superior talent. Pure and simple. We can't win with smoke and mirrors again. That's true, but whether it's the Royals or Twins you cannot walk 7 players in a game. Ever. This should be one of those once a season type of performances because of how horrendous it was.

Peavy is just pitching like a p**** tonight. I said TONIGHT, not the entire season, or for the remainder of his time here

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Seriously, STFU people. You are the same guys that were busy talking about how awful Floyd was last year and what a joke of a pitcher he was too when he started rough. Give it a rest people. You are ruining the game thread. No one is willing to chat, so this is your punishment.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) We're not paying this guy 16 million dollars, and gave up good players, to wait a month for him to figure it the f*** out. Don't we have Spring Training for that exact purpose anyway?

Great job Kotsay, if you didn't dive you would have made it at second.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Merkin Gonzales and Cowley tweeted that Peavy showed anger toward AJ when he didn't make that out. Yeah, it seemed like he was pissed. We won't hear the last of this.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah, 3-2 is insurmountable. People seriously need to get off the ledge before you get a hernia. I....guess you can maybe get a hernia from standing on a ledge, but that's not a very good way to make your point. Please try again.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) He threw a tantrum on the mound? Look at the replay if you have a chance -- when AJ doesn't throw to first Peavy seems to turn around quickly and slam his glove against his other hand. It's obvious he was pissed at AJ.

Very ace like. 82 pitches in 2 2/3 innings and almost a desire to nibble and pitch like a woman. I'm not dismissing Peavy entirely, but I'm becoming VERY annoyed watching his starts. They're brutal.

That's complete crap from Hawk and Stone. AJ had time to take one step to his left and create an angle. It's disgusting how they excused that. And I suppose Peavy threw a tantrum on the mound because he agreed with AJ, right? He was just being overly cautious; afraid to throw it away.

Single biggest problem with the Sox over the past decade
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) The biggest misconception that has been used about past White Sox drafts has been they picked low so they had nothing to work with. Just some of the picks in the 2005 draft after Broadway, the "safe" pick: Jacoby Ellsbury Matt Garza Colby Rasmus Luke Hochever Clay Bucholtz Nolan Reimold Kevin Slowey Yunel Escobar People around here for many years were disgusting me with the excuses used to explain the lack of development in the minor league department. Our draft position was often cited. I honestly believed what I read was echoed by management -- most notably that because Williams could deal prospects for proven veterans, all we needed was to draft people who could perform well in the minors and then ship them off. As if other teams don't have scouts. Someone should browse through the 2005/2006 draft threads, and I guarantee you'll find that exact argument thrown about by respected posters. What annoys me is, it's not even as if we'd be upset if several more million was spent on a 1st or 2nd round pick that ultimately busted. That doesn't mean breaking the bank for an athletic Joe Borchard, but instead take advantage of quality players -- whether high school or college -- who drop due to sign ability concerns. I'd take Nevin Griffith a million times over Donny Lucy, even if it means one person reaches the majors and the other never makes AAA. Yes, the draft is much less certain than other sports; but with that knowledge, why not improve your odds of developing a potential #1, instead of another #5. Or a studly 1B instead of another 4th OF? Although I'm pleased that, atleast on the surface (Buddy Bell, Williams stating his committal to a strong system), it appears we're more concerned with the draft. Also, I'll end on this question concerning our international prowess -- name me the last contributing player from Latin America that was developed through our system? Hint -- you'll have to go back a LONG time.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) We aren't even "fun bad". I'd say we're close to fun bad, atleast under my interpretation -- which is when a team tries desperately to win and compete yet is unable due to their awfulness. It's fun watching someone so overmatched go out and lose when they still think they have a chance. And I'm sure we'll hear all the right quotes in the paper concerning the month of the season, and how much time is left to right themselves.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) Hey, we can catch the Twins. No problems! They don't have the Metrodome anymore..... which means we'll play terrible in another stadium!

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:35 AM) Let's get this out of the way early. HAHAHAHA! This offense f***ing sucks! Season over. The Twins are going to win the division by 77 games. Scott Podsednik got on base 5 times today. Can Pierre do that? We could've had Thome. lol@this pathetic offense. We f***ing suck. If we were like the Twins, we'd be in first place by now. lol@kw. lol@ozzie. God look at how breathtaking the Twins are. AHAHAHAHAHA@this team. Nobody is going to come to the park this summer because we f***ing suck! God I'm so glad I didn't get season tickets. gehpgsdb[ifa[bgg[@this team. Why can't we be like the Twins? 4/16 GT: Sox @ Indians, Buehrle v. Talbot
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Cy Talbot shut em down! He was filthy! Just have to tip your cap! These are major league pitchers! Something like that.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) Every night I look at the batting average column in mlb game day and I laugh. There's always this part of me that exists that hopes for the worst, if for nothing other than comedic value -- and that part would let to see these averages plummet. Atleast for a week.

If there's one benefit to facing Talbot is that he's atrocious. We're just two hits away from tying this. He is someone we should have in our minor league system.

4/15 Gamethread: White Sox (4-5) vs Blue Jays (6-3) 6:07 PM
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) Do you think our team lacks a killer instinct or are we just not that good. It woulda been special to take 3-4 in Toronto. It's never nor will it ever be about a lack of a killer instinct. If we don't win, we're just not that good.

4/15 Gamethread: White Sox (4-5) vs Blue Jays (6-3) 6:07 PM
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) He's the closest thing I've seen to Carlos Marmol in a few years. His delivery is much smoother, with less jerky movements, which should limit the wildness. Also, that inning he didn't even throw a changeup, which from what I've seen is also a plus pitch.
