QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) 4) I would absoulutely think about sending Beckham and Ramirez down to Charlotte to play together everyday in a stress-free environment. As Beckham said it best, "just be a player that's fun to watch," remember why you fell in love with baseball and go back to being the player we all know you can become. Maybe it's not Chase Utley, but it's a 3-5 time all-star and very solid contributor with "plus" offensive skills at that position. They'll be playing in a stress free environment on the South Side fairly soon. Their issues are either mechanical or due to some unified scouting report that has perfectly exploited their weaknesses. Either way, Charlotte doesn't help. What are we ultimately suggesting, that going down to AAA and killing scrub pitching will help their confidence? Are we dealing with little boys here? If I ever heard Beckham needed to go to the minors to remember why he fell in love with baseball, I would immediately begin to question his mental state. He hits....a f***ing baseball....for a living. It's a god damn kids game that you're being paid for! Greinke found his appreciation for baseball outside of baseball, while saving the team some money! That's where Beckham can find his love for baseball, on his own time -- for free.

If you're KW, who's on your BIG BOARD to replace Ozzie?

Also, Cooper has another job in line -- commentating for NBA games. He is currently working the Utah/Denver game. -
QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) http://twitter.com/Cst_Sox Peavy isn't hurt. He admits he's still trying to find his mechanics, which I can agree with from what I've seen so far Also, I want to add that his rip towards Chuck Garfien looking like he belongs on To Catch A Predator is absolutely correct. Something about the way the man looks is freightening.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) GUYS IT IS JUST THE FACT THAT IT IS STILL COLD CHILL DUDES Game time temperature was 78 degrees, and it's a FACT that Peavy prefers 79 degrees and above. When it went up that one degree is when he began pitching well! I'm not worried anymore! -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) I'll reiterate. Ozzie, at the Ballpark in Arlington, one of the true hitters' paradises....started an AL (NOT NL) line-up with the worst cumulative OPS across the nine starting players (Pierre, AJ, Kotsay, Vizquel at 2 spot, Ramirez....even Quentin was in the mid 600's at the beginning of the game) in the HISTORY OF MLB after April 28th. We had only four legit (counting CQ despite the recent slump) threats in the line-up. Beckham and Jones were both sitting. Holy s***, and you have to believe that someone looked at our lineup, laughed, and thought to themself "I wonder how bad this lineup is historically?" before looking it up. If anyone is replacing Guillen, it will be Cora or some other past White Sox player. I've heard the, "The organizastion hires from within so the employees know the tradition of the team" enough times to guide my decision. -
QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Last week every 5 posts were coming from people saying its early and what not. Appears as if most of those posts are now gone. And that's even with a weekend full of 9th inning wins. I think even the most optimistic of Soxtalk members realize this team just isn't very good. I'm sure they'll eventually rebound, but for me, that 'rebound' is somewhere around .500. Is that what we're looking forward to, being in baseball hell year after year because our minor league system rarely produces contributing players and our current lineup will need a LOT of overhaul to compete again? Personally, I'd love to tear this mess apart. I'll take a stretch of five bad years below .500. I'm still young, I can get through it. Yes, our payroll be horrendous; but if that stretch gives us the opportunity to rebuild from within, and help assemble a team the old fashioned way, when we begin winning, the people will come. The fanbase is there, even if they are fickle. I know there's no one set way to win, but I'd like to be consistent with our teams -- instead of making the playoffs once every three years. And yes, I realize that one year got us a World Series. Personally, I'd like to see change; no more 'rebuilding on the fly' or however Williams may term it. Do it right -- begin with a high draft budget, no more following draft slot recommendations, and for God sakes, develop a few players from that talent pool in Latin America. We shouldn't have Carlos Lee as our last player of value from that area.
-
Great, now we'll have to deal with the "he rebounded nicely" argument to put off Peavy's problems another start. He still is nothing like the starting pitcher we traded for. This Peavy is not worth more than $10 million.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) At what point is it okay for us fans to look forward to the #1 pick and a new coach? It's gotta be coming soon.. June for me. We're still early enough that a four game win streak can fool us into thinking we've turned things around. By then, we should be 15 out. HR for Quentin. Nice. Now does Peavy give some runs right back?
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) wtf was that peavy...why did he say fastball....was he pissed at AJ? From this game and the last, it's obvious they're not getting along out there. It could get very interesting if they continue this.
-
It's one issue for Peavy to struggle, which is bad in itself, but when the offense (sans one starter in Beckham) cannot do anything against a limp wristed Harden, there's no hope. Just hope Minnesota stays far ahead of us and we're far enough out of it that Williams doesn't think we have a chance.
-
I would, but went to the wrong pron site and now I have an annoying virus to deal with that won't allow me to open programs. For now, I'll share my anger in the game day thread.
-
Awesome, Peavy found his velocity for one pitch.....three innings into a game after giving up 5 runs!
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) I still didn't think he looked overly impressive last season with the Sox. His fastball wasn't overly crisp, but we excused it cause of the lay off. What I think will happen is, we'll realize that Peavy changed his release to compensate for a sore ankle last season and it led to whatever problem he's experiencing now.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) IMO Peavy's issues are probably not mechanical, more along the lines of psychological. Most likely things like him not feeling comfortable, at least not yet, as a Sox pitcher (I think we underestimate how much of a Security Blanket San Diego was for him), as well as the added pressure of playing for a "contender" (lol), or perhaps playing in a town where Baseball means something There's a good to great chance that Peavy just sucks this year, as he adjusts to his new team, surroundings, expectations, and the league/hitters Sucks, but this could very well be a bad year for us, I'm talking sub-.500 for the 3rd time in 4 years. Heads will roll Jesus Christ. The lengths some people go to avoid the possibility Peavy is injured. How exactly is it psychological that he can't throw as well as he did......SEVEN MONTHS AGO.....when he was on the Sox? If what you said is true in any way, then it's time to get him off our team. Don't need someone who is afraid to throw a f***ing baseball really fast for a living while making 15+ million.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) You guys think that Peavy hurt himself right after his first ST game against the Dodgers? Because after that, he threw nothing but fastballs and gave up 7 runs. Then he sucked for a couple of more starts in ST. I don't know when, but he was healthy last year in his several starts for the Sox. I don't think he has aged that quickly over seven months.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) I feel like we're watching the battle of Sammy Sosa against Mark McGwire on the mound. Where did both of these guys fastball go? Try to look at Harden's release when he throws a fastball. It's goofy, like he's tilting his hand a little. Doesn't look natural.
-
Something's wrong with Peavy, and the longer we wait to find out, the more games we'll lose. As if it really matters with the Twins. Again, how exactly does a healthy starting pitcher lose 4 mph on a fastball, find himself unable to throw a decent breaking pitch, and lose most of his control if nothing is wrong?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) Buehrle has been mediocre at best this year since that Opening Day gem, and he's kind of getting a pass on it while fans are reaming Peavy every time he goes out there, calling him a bust, etc. I hate when this argument is thrown about-- there's always going to be a double standard, two players that aren't pitching well; one more criticized than another. The two explanations I can give are: Buehrle hasn't been pitching scared and his velocity has been consistent. This is just embarrasing with Peavy.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) BTW, anyone else hear Terry Boers say that Jake Peavy is injured? He usually has the best sources. I wouldn't doubt it. How exactly does a healthy starting pitcher lose 4 mph on a fastball, with an inability to throw a decent breaking ball, from September through now, if it isn't an injury? A part of me would feel better if that was the case, so atleast there's something to explain his feminization lately on the mound. He's pitching like one of our AAA callups; scared and freightened.
-
I'm getting the point where just watching Peavy pitch is beginning to annoy me. Where did his velocity go from the last start?

Is this Rowland any relation to Aaron Rowland, former White Sox CF? -
What a disaster this rotating DH NL lineup idea is...
Flash Tizzle replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In future seasons, we'll reflect on this year and realize it did benefit us in several ways -- 1. Top 10 Draft Pick 2. End of rotating DH 3. End of listening to Guillen's opinion on how to construct a roster 4. End of Kotsay and Vizquel (although there's always going to be the next Kotsay and Vizquel as long as we have anyone on the bench). -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) It's sad knowing Ozzie would never have the balls to release Vizquel. It's not even worth rooting for him to do bad so that he'll get DFA'd. 1.Veteran pride 2.Hero in Venezuela 3. Left handed bat 4. Spicy Latin temper (all Latin players have it in their blood) He's not leaving

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) In the third week of April? I don't know. I haven't bothered looking, as it doesn't matter this time of year. Please, you seem like an intelligent poster; don't start copying the talking points of the baseball retarded. If we keep playing like this, soon we'll be wondering what happened when it's August and we're 15 games out; you know, the time baseball games begin counting to some people.
