  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 03:25 AM) This is a damn good question. I wanted to work squats into my everyday workouts. I did 5 sets of 10 a few weeks ago. My legs were fine until I woke up the next morning and it felt like a woodpecker had been pecking at my thighs all night. I'm 26, but I may as well have been 96. That's how incapacitated I was. I figured that since I had never really done them before that it was just my legs way of adjusting. But I'm scared s***less to try them again. Whoa, you definitively shouldn't think about squatting as part of an everyday workout. At most, I'd recommend three days a week; but for me, I'm fine with one due to a heavy amount of running. After searching through the Google it would seem that many recommend remaining at the weight you're using until the pain disappears. It's considered one of the best overall exercises for building muscle, due to all the muscle groups engaged, so we'd be better off finding a routine and sticking with it. It'll be interested to see how my body reacts on Saturday when I squat again.
  2. Does anyone here squat regularly? Jesus, I did five sets of five reps on Sunday and my thighs have been sore since. It's a chore walking; especially climbing stairs. What's worst of all is it took me three times as long to complete my run because I couldn't move my legs as fast as before, and the stiffness has drained my energy. I'd really like to continue, I'm sure it'll be better as the weeks go on, but I can't keep forsaking my runs for squats. Any advice?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Damnit, there goes my neck again. That's like the 3rd or 4th time I've tweaked one of those muscles in the past 2 months. I'm not, as far as I can tell, doing a ridiculous amount of weight on anything that's working that part, I'm stretching it before and after exercise, wtf? It has to be the stretches your doing. Abandon them. I have never even thought about stretching my neck, since the only exercises that engage it are goofy exercises such as this which are more suited for bodybuilders or football players.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) Ironic that people against cruelty are for self-mutilation. Just sayin'... Usually for something to be ironic you need to compare several items that are somewhat related, and I can't see how cruelty and 'self-mutilation' (which you associate with piercings and tattoos) are similar. Everyone entering the door will be willing participants for whatever they want done to themselves.
  5. Why do we have this discussion every f***ing year? I swear to god it's like clockwork, right before the season begins. Quit complaining about the great uniforms or else management may do something stupid like consider it.
  6. I've actually thought about this before, and I'd pick U2's Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill me, if only for the introduction. The song speaks to me.
  7. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) Feldman has been clean for a while I think, but Haim has been a mess for years. Might have to watch the Lost Boys tonight. SAY HELLO TO THE NIGHT........LOST IN THE SHADOWS! This is expected, really. I don't think anyone is surprised. I browsed Fox News.com and had to go out of my way to find the article on it, since it was hidden at the bottom of the page.
  8. I wish the worst for Joe Nathan. Never return, please.
  9. The best thing Lillibridge can do any AB is sit there with the bat on his shoulder and not move, regardless of the type of pitcher.
  10. Shouldn't Rios automatically do better this year, you know, since he's accustomed to the team and isn't taking AB's away from Dye?!
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) PUTS, YOU ASSHATS! He's probably friends with James Looney (as Melton referred to him as in the introduction)
  12. QUOTE (Be Good @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Well i'm tyring to become a cop.... but until then I have no real input excet that my father is a cop.... etc. But in regards to police veh in my area Nassau/Suffolk: There are almost no suvs in Nassau or suffolk (almost all malibu's/impala's & still some crown vic's/grand marquis) NYC: Few suvs, but scooters are becoming more of the norm (esp in the congested areas- manhattan (mid-town), flushing etc. Jesus, I haven't seen you around in awhile.

  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) If they really want more respect, they can start by not looking like slobs. That drives me nuts. Some of these CPD guys, they might as well wear a sign on their forehead that says "mess with me". There's a reason why Troopers don't get f***ed with nearly as often, and get more respect - and it isn't their cars. Its that they look like somoene you wouldn't want to mess with. They're in at least reasonably good physical shape, uniform is crisp and clean, equipment nice and shiny, and most importantly, they have command presence. I don't believe you'd receive much opposition with this. Illinois State Troopers undergo the toughest academy, the most stringent of background investigations, and you'll rarely -- if ever -- hear any negative news concerning the department or its staff because there's an underlying sense of pride with the position. Physically, they need to be in great shape; if the worst were to occur, the nearest backup may be 15 minutes away. Every year a trooper has to pass a physical agility test; if they fail, they're given an opportunity to test again within a certain amount of time. Fail for a third time, the trooper risks being fired. You'll never hear the day CPD does any of the preceding points.
  15. QUOTE (The Beast @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Another disaster. Went up to the bar/club again and met up with the girl and her friend. Apparently the guy that was driving the girl I'm semi-interested in has a little something going with this girl, or just rushed up to the occasion to dance with the girl. So, I got passed off to the friend and danced with the friend just to try and stay in with the other for the next night at the club, just in case things changed. Luckily, I was able to go get her a drink and sit down asking anything I possibly could to not have to dance with this friend. This girl and I got to talking about life after school. Evidently she doesn't have a plan and just wants to see what comes of her career in nursing and wants to travel. None of these girls that I have met seem to have plans like mine (moving back to the suburbs and working in the city before living on my own), so I'm willing to bet that I'll be back in the city upon graduation. She didn't seem to understand where I was coming from with "quitting" the media industry but I just said that I wanted to have a family (the job was wayyy too stressful for me) and that I didn't want to have to be in a remote area for a long while after graduation with the possibility of never achieving my goals. Anyway, back to the story, I was able to leave afterwards and started texting the girl I'm semi-interested in...the dialogue went something like this: What do you think of her? Well, she has her priorities in line, though I just met you and wanted to get to know you more. And hinted that I'd see her tomorrow night. And if this fails, then I'll just keep doing school clubs, dive into my schoolwork and follow my plan of going back to Chicago. Or just move on to the next girl, do yoga and all the alternatives to meeting women at bars/clubs. God I hate the bar scene. Too many creepy f***s there. Beastly, if this girl liked you she wouldn't have pushed you off onto a friend. Additionally, as Kyle suggested, when you begin discussing priorities in life (even including, however innocent it may be, the phrase "wanted to have a family") it may be too much, too quick. I can understand the perception of bars as a terrible place to meet quality women, but as someone with vast experience in drinking (and creeping), it's all about location. Don't limit yourself to certain areas. People our age, that's what they do on weekends. It doesn't define them.
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) the tsunami was a total bust Insensitive ass. Grow up. Well, if I was on that island I'd have a whole lot more money with me right now, seeing as that I wouldn't have spent it hording food and gasoline. Although it was funny watching cable news networks trying to will the tsunami waves on shore. Anyone on this forum (who doesn't live on the island) that didn't have a part of them wanting to see a surge of water pummel Hawaii is lying. No one innocent would have died (you'd probably have a few surfers, beach stragglers to contend with). You were all sitting next to your tv at 3pm like me anticipating it. Nowwww here comes the comments suggesting how I'm wrong
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 12:00 PM) I guess it's easy to laugh in the comfort of your home in Palos Heights but do you really think you'd blow off this warning if you lived on an oceanfront property in Honolulu? The warning suggests for people to move inland, not stock up on supplies to anticipate the apocalypse. Oh, but I know, "who knows how much damage will occur or whether their homes will be remaining." 3 HOURS UNTIL DEVASTATION
  18. People in Hawaii are stocking up on supplies, lol. The waves will not hit for over three hours, and they won't be anything like those of the Tsunami of 2004. COUNTDOWN -- 3 HOURS UNTIL DEVASTATION
  19. I'd say the roof portion from some of the inside photos reminds me of The Cell, but aside from that, most of the interior designs (especially the outfield area) remind me of other stadiums. From left to right there's the PETCO looking area along the foul pole, the overhang resembling Arlington, right center field reminds me of Wrigley, and the right field area has the Camden Yards appearance.
  20. Happy belated scrumptious. You too, Bearsox.
  21. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) That's a pretty big reason. You guys are quoting me too quickly.
  22. Even if Jones and Kotsay exceeded everyone's expectations and did well in their DH roles, would anyone be fooled into bringing them back for the spot in 2011? I guarantee, bad or good, those two won't be the DH past this season. And I understand that if both of them did well in their roles they'd probably look for full-time work, but I just feel that there's no excuse for their placement except for Williams not having enough money left over to fill the position. That, of course, is entirely his fault. It's very convenient that he can use the "Ozzie wants these type of players" excuse to justify it.
  23. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) Way to ignore PK, Beckham, Quentin, Crede, Griffey, Swisher, etc. I hope that you're not trying to argue that some of the on-paper talent that Kenny has put in the field in the recent past is consistently inferior to what MIN trots out in a typical year. You're just making a parody of my parody at this point. My post was just to point out that around those crappy roster fillers for the Twins were quality players.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) It's not a contradiction at all. KW made this team the way it is, and when you are spending 100 million already and have the best pitching staff of your life it's good value to spend another 5 mill on a DH to help further ensure a pennant. I think the solution is that the sox much earlier on should've put a lot more money into the draft and player development. We'd be in a lot better shape if we did. We haven't...and so we only have andy gonzalez's to plug into our system when we can't afford half of the veterans salary. Doesn't it seem like we've been coming back to this solution for YEARS? I know I have. If you put your money into player development, and sign those draft picks exceeding slot recommendations that other teams look over, you'll have a better shot of saving money down the line and avoiding situations such as the one's we're in. An intelligent, well run organization should always strive to have several quality pre-arbitration players on its roster. Even just one player makes a difference. Imagine if we didn't have Beckham around. That'd be a whole another problem to deal with, wondering who the hell will be at second base.
  25. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) It's called adhering to a budget. Most teams can't spend $60M on their pitching staff, over-pay guys like PK, Rios, and Jenks, and round out every other position with $6M+/yr veterans like Damon and Matsui. The Yankees and Red Sox can, but the White Sox can't. And until the Sox become an elite revenue team, that isn't going to change any time soon. Frankly, I'm more pissed that the Twins can win the division semi-consistently with crap like Alexi Casilla, Carlos Gomez, and Delmon Young in their starting lineup.... yet we can't win with elite hitters like Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye in ours. Maybe we need to steal their hitting coach. Well, around those crappy Minnesota hitters are the likes of Denard Span, that mead head Morneau, Mauer, Cuddyer, and Kubel. Just as around Thome and Dye were 661 AB's in 2009 split among Lillibridge, Fields, Wise, and Anderson. Also, I can understand the unwillingness to budge with Boras if Damon's demands are excessive; but ultimately, Williams put himself in this position. It's embarrassing that we enter 2010 with Jones and Kotsay splitting time at DH.
