  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) Yep....many speculated a few pages earlier that this would be the case. Can they have a deal in place without announcing it?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) I doubt they'd announce this before the Series ends. Yeah that makes sense. Wonder if a deal is in place just wait to announce it.
  3. QUOTE (Sockin @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) Gammons says the general opinion in baseball is the White Sox over the Astros at $70 mil. https://twitter.com/pgammo/status/390972866965299200 Now I wonder when we can expect a deal. Hope it's the Sox
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 05:19 PM) Good on you White Sox. Get what could be a legit power bat, won't cost a draft pick, and should be a part of the next White Sox core even if the team likely won't be competitive next season. More smart signings and trades please. Abreu and Salty/McCann and maybe a couple trades for bats (Trumbo? Lawrie?) would be ideal. Mix that in with the 5 million Sox will have in International money and the #3 pick with early picks in rounds could make a huge difference for this organization.
  5. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Is this guy strictly a 1B? Yes/DH
  6. Olney just tweeted Astros are skeptical about their chances of signing Abreu. Made a strong offer but all but certain they fell short. White Sox? I like the sound of that
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) Just not getting my hopes up. But if the Sox do sign him, I hope he's a force. The Sox need some relevant offensive players in the game. That's why I think he will sign with the Sox. Abreu can see that other players from Cuba (Contreras, Alexei, and Viciedo) have been successful with the Sox and a high market team that will fit right in the middle of the order
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Seems pretty legit when they allow mlb.com to put out a story that says multiple industry sources say he's down to three teams. He'll be an Astro. Why do you say that? He can very easily sign with the White Sox. Astros do have Singleton on the way , so I honestly don't know why their going after him. Olney just tweeted that the Red Sox don't expect to sign him and that the Astros and White Sox are seen as the front runners
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) Sox really need this guy to start showing fans they care about turning this around. If they get him, combine that with a Viciedo/Beckham Santiago blockbuster trade for a catcher/third baseman and reliever or some combination and we might be on the right track IMO. Their not trading Viciedo but possibly Santiago and/or Beckham. But this deal will be 6/70
  10. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 06:27 PM) Bald host guy on sports talk live.... C-McCann/Salty/AJ 1B- Dunn 2B- Beckham 3B- Viceido SS- Lexi RF- Garcia CF- Dejesus LF- Cruz DH- Didn't say. "If Miggy can play 3B so can Dayan" I wouldn't mind giving Cruz a 1 year deal. But I don't even think he knows that the Sox are after Abreu
  11. Olney just tweeted that Abreu's deal could be up to 70 million and that the Astros White Sox and Rangers are the front runners. Ill do 6/70
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 11:21 PM) He's a non-prospect. Too old for the level he was pitching at to not strike many guys out. Can definitely be a bullpen guy though.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Wow, the fact that we got anything is a win. I wonder what we could of gotten if he actually pitced and pitched well....
  14. I wonder if there still is anyway the Sox could pry Adams away from the Cardinals.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Sean Bierman, LHP http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=bierma001sea Says he was in high A and he's 25 so a little old for that league. I wonder if they start him in AAA next year. Hayes retweeted the Rays beat writer and the writer also said it involves another player and that the deal should be finalized tomorrow
  16. If Sox are even thinking of trading Sale, there would only be to a limited amount of teams that actually have the farm system that could make a worth while trade. With that said, I would not trade Chris Sale
  17. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) I think there is a big difference between the 2. Viciedo is slow and a below average outfielder. He is pretty much a one dimensional player. He is playing LF because he is on a bad team and the only other place you can hide him is at DH. Now maybe his weight hurts him but if he drops 20 lbs his offense may be adversly affected. Last year Viciedo was bad in the outfield. But 2 years ago, he was very competent in the outfield and still has a great arm that runners do not run on, and if they do, their most likely out because he is accurate with his throws. Mind you, Viciedo has been exploring 3 positions already ever since he was signed, that is very hard on a player and a lot to learn. It might be just me but I like Viciedo and think he can be a very key asset to this team in the future.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) It is strange that Sox fans are more optimistic about Cub players versus their own. Exactly. We just think that because Theo and Jed are there now that they are going to become a contender within a couple years. Truth is, if they miss on this next manager selection and the prospects don't pan out, Theo is the blame. Viciedo is just as much part of the future as is Avisail Garcia in my opinion.
  19. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) Couldn't agree more at 1B. Like you said there are so many guesses and prayers with the young guys. It's still possible KW's plan with all these guys he acquired pans out, just later than expected. But s***, I hope Rick is decisive enough to just move on at some positions. Selling low sucks but so does holding on to a losing hand praying for a good river card. Too bad Tank, Beckham and Flowers suck. Man we'd be so good if they lived up to potential. Prospects.....ughhhh. I wouldn't put Tank into the suck category. He's still developing and at the age of 24. He has put up better number than Rizzo so far in his career with only 25 more at bats and a higher OPS, and Rizzo is considered part of the future. Flowers is terrible and Beckham showed life last year until the wrist and quad injuries slowed him down.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Nelson Cruz was 27 when he finally saw the switch. That is the thing with hitters - it's almost more rare that you see a gradual increase, but instead you just see the flip switch on. I completely agree with you. Glad you have some sense rather than giving up on him
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) I still see Viciedo as a potential 275/35/100 guy with an OBP around 330. In this era, that's a real valuable player. He did hit 25 homers as a 23 year old in his first full season. He's the type of player you try to acquire in a rebuild and we already have him. Thank you. This is exactly what I think. This is what we're expecting out of Avi Garcia, just not that much in the power categories. Kids like Viciedo, you don't just give up on kids this young with this much potential. Everyone saw by trading Chris Davis and Tommy Hinter for 1 year of Uehera bit the Rangers in the butt big time. Hitters can figure it out later in their career at 27-29. Viciedo will be 24. Everyone of his doubters needs to relax
  22. People actually suggesting signing Grady Sizemore and playing over De Aza or Viciedo is just a horrendous idea. I don't know where to even begin of how much I hate that Idea I'm sorry. Guys, we cannot give up on Viciedo just yet. He will be JUST 24 next season. Hitters take more time than pitchers obviously so I still think we have to give him at least 2-3 more years. And I wouldn't mind that if it was DHing and playing LF.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) Jacobs PH for Semien, homered. Semien 0-4. Mitchell 2-4, HR. Two games, no Sox pitchers yet - that is odd. Bassitt, Vance, Leesman and McCray on their roster. Should see them soon. Good to see Jacobs hit a bomb. Mitchell with a solid day
  24. If Semein could stay at third this would be perfect for the Sox. Eventually get Micah at second and trade Beckham a year or two from now. With Leury and Avi. Thi team will have major speed in 2 years. I also really think that Thompson make an impact in a couple years.
  25. Micah Johnson works full count and walks. Then steals 2nd easily. This from Merkin. Johnson and Semein are facing Michael Roth today
