  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) Hopefully Abreu is that. How would you guys feel if the Sox got Salty,Abreu and Ellsbury. Possible? Too much money?
  2. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) Things we need: A star position player One more really good hitter We can win with that and all the potentially good hitters we already have. I'd look for Hahn to make some noise by acquiring a young star. Energize the base in one offseason. What young star hitter is available? CarGo? Stanton?
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) Trading Santiago weakens your pitching staff to the point where it is no longer a strength. It doesn't make sense. You'd have Sale, Q and then a bunch of guys who may or may not be able to stick in a MLB rotation. Not to mention it kills depth which everyone watching this year should know you need. We lost 60% of our opening day rotation this season. Floyd and Peavy to injury (then Peavy traded) and Axelrod to ineffectiveness. No one should ever go into a season with just two known quantities in the rotation and expect to compete. Danks will be the #3 then and Johnson all but put himself into the rotation for next year. I could see the Sox signing someone like a Josh Johnson or a Tommy Hanson. If they do trade Santiago, I could see the Sox going pitcher with the #3 pick to add depth
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Viciedo actually showed justifiable improvement in the second half. His power increased (Iso from .151 to .175), patience increased (BB rate from 4.8% to 5.4%), and control of the zone (K-Rate from 21.4% to 19.8%). He hit .291, compared to .246 in the first half. And, compared to last year, he swung at fewer pitches outside the zone (38.9% to 38.1%) and swung at more pitches in the zone (63.7% to 72.2%). He is still young and talented enough to actually become a productive member of a baseball team. I could care less what they do with Beckham though. I think it's time to give Semien an opportunity there. We basically just said the same thing. You just gave stats and I completely agree
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) What if the Sox signed Abreu and McCann and traded Santiago and something for Lawrie. How would the team stack up at that point? As bad as this team seems, a couple of hitters, guys like Viciedo, Garcia and/or Beckham stepping up, and they are a pretty good team again. Completely agree with this. Although I see Viciedo improving with the right hitting coach the most. He's still only 23 and has raw talent is still there. Yes I know the power numbers weren't there, and doesn't walk often but he still hit 266. Next year if he can hit 265 with 25 HRs and 80 RBIs that would be great. And I could see Sox trading Beckham so Semein could start at 2B.
  6. Brian McCann and Abreu are on my wish list. Couple trades can definitely improve this team
  7. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) I remember a couple weeks ago Bucket mentioned a possible Brett Lawrie for Quintana swap. Given the way Q finished the year and passed the 200 innings mark, I am hoping we can get more than just Lawrie for him. I do love the idea of Lawrie and hoping Hahn is pursuing a deal such as this to bring someone with energy, skill set and youth that Lawrie has. I think Santiago for Lawrie would benefit both teams and make more sense for both
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) IMO, if they sign abreu, McCann, and a reliever, they can field a potentially-competitive roster and still be under $100 mil. If they can do that, I would then trade for Cargo. A line up of: SS Alexei CF Avi Garcia RF Carlos Gonzalez 1B Abreu C McCann LF Viciedo DH Dunn 3B Gillaspie/Keppinger 2B Semein/Beckham Bench Phegley Keppinger/Gillaspie Danks Garcia or Konerko That still could be under 100 million.
  9. QUOTE (Leonard of Berwyn @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) How about Trumbo and Hank Conger for John Danks and Tyler Flowers? No way Angels do that. I don't think they want to add another large contract.
  10. I've been really impressed with Petricka and Webb so far. I could definitely see them make the bullpen next season.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 07:59 PM) Um, yes please Angels are looking for a good cost controlled pitcher and I think Santiago fits the bill. Trumbo would be 28 at the start of next season, so I would think the Angels would have to chip in 2 lower level players.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 07:58 PM) Thome next year? I could definitely see that happening, and I would love it. I truly believe he can help Viciedo and develop Avi's power swing.
  13. How would you guys feel of a Santiago for Trumbo + trade?
  14. Odd that none of us heard this before. Not even the beat writers mentioned it.
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Jesse Sanchez ‏@JesseSanchezMLB Source: #Cuba prospect Jose Abreu declared a free agent & cleared to sign with a team. Giants among clubs taking a long look at the slugger. Reply Retweet Favorite More Abreu and Choo and a left handed relief pitcher would be a good off season for me.
  16. I believe Bucket mentioned earlier in the thread that the Sox front office were looking heavy into Pence this off season. Well Heyman just tweeted that Pence and the Giants are close to a deal near 90 million. 5 year deal for 90 million. Thoughts? Would you give Choo 5/90?
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 07:11 AM) I follow the Rockies very closely, Stan, and I gotta ask if you have seen something about their trading Cargo. Not that I wouldn't like to have him with the Sox, even though I am very familiar with his shortcomings. Any trade talk would start with Sale and include other pitchers as well. I would think it would start with Quintana/Santiago, Beck, and others
  18. Merkin just tweeted that per Hahn thy PK decision won't be discussed until a couple weeks.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) But nobody is giving reasons why, though whitesox said if his body can't handle it. I would agree with that. I've listed a lot of reasons why he should stay. I'm not saying you feel this way, but IMO too many people refuse to accept the possibility Paulie could have a solid to very good comeback season. Or if he's healthy he might want to go on and on. How long did Thome wind up playing?? Forever. By the end he was just a pinch hitter. Did it ruin his legacy? Not really. Guys like Thome and Konerko go out on their own terms. I understand what you're saying but in my opinion, if he does want to play next year it shouldn't be with the Sox. The way tho team is headed, he deserves to go to a contender and go out as a champion. Of course I would love Paulie back but it is a business and Paulie just isn't part of the future.
  20. I think it's his time to retire. Announce it now, and be able to get the proper ovation from the fans
  21. Leury is fast. Wow. Caused a terrible throw by Kipnis with his speed and I think he would if been safe too
  22. Sox acquire Frank Los Santos from the Rays unrelated to the Crain trade per Hayes.
  23. How's everyone feel about Saltalamacchia as a potential signing next year?
  24. QUOTE (SAVVY18 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) I was at the cell last night and it was a total disappointment all around. The game itself was an abortion...just awful. You'd think at "Blackhawks Night", they would have that silver trophy that the team won last year brought out on to the field...NOPE. I know it was at the Bears game on Sunday and I'm pretty sure they had the cup at the cubs game earlier this season as well. It's been everywhere, but on the South Side. s***, they could have had it on the concourse, charged $10 for a picture with it and donated it to the team charity. I figured they'd trot the ambassador's out there, which they did(except for Bobby). But then we had 2 draft picks that hadn't even made the team yet(Tevo and the new kid from Buffalo Grove), 2 scrub defensemen from Rockford(Stanton and Clendening) and then finally a real Hawks player in Crawford. Maybe had the players and ambassadors available for autographs as well. It wouldn't need to be for 3 hours, but a little session would have been nice. Not to mention having a couple of other players from the cup winning team like were at the other events. The free scarf we got was nice, so that's a positive from it. I do believe coach Q did bring the Cup to a Sox game after they won it.
