  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) I agree. The whole purpose of the trade would be to improve the team to make the playoffs. I don't see losing McCutchen and his replacement in one deal making sense for them even with improvement of the pitching with Q. Exactly. Are the Pirates really going to put that much faith into a rookie expecting to put up similar numbers to Cutch? Cutch had a down year, but I don't think Meadows could reach that in his next 2 years given his age. Very well could, but unlikely.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) I guess that would be a very pirates thing to do trying to offset the very cheap Quintana contract by moving Cutch and getting Conforto, but in my head if Q going to the Pirates requires Meadows it will just be a straight up deal and they will avoid the fan headache of losing the hometown star. Agreed. With McCutchen, that lineup is still a really good lineup. Add a really good lineup to a really good rotation and they can be thinking of possibly winning the division or hosting a wild card game.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Exactly, especially since I'm not quite sure why they are focused on McCutchen to start with Yeah, i don't get it unless they don't want to play Cespedes in CF. They have Cespedes, Bruce, Granderson, and Conforto in the OF already.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) This will be very interesting if its a 3 way trade but super complicated. I haven't seen one yet where I completely get motivation from all three sides. Yeah I agree. I don't see a scenario where the Pirates don't get fleeced and the Mets don't give up enough
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) Why would the White Sox want to acquire Bell and Smith? Makes no sense since both are 1B/DH only players Feels light from the Mets Just realized this lol. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) That would be a horrible trade for the Pirates IMO. Yeah I thought so. I was just spit balling. I failed.
  6. Pirates get: Quintana and Granderson (1 year left) Mets get: McCuthcen and Robertson Sox get: Bell, Glasnow, Conforto, Smith, and Dunn Thoughts? At first though, I think this is light from the Mets side.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) It'll probably be harder to deal him at the deadline. Right now your asking about guys not currently playing in MLB. But some might be come the trade deadline. Ding ding ding. Give me 2 of Meadows, Glasnow, and Bell now that they're not in the majors contributing. If rumors were true like at the deadline regarding the Q to Boston deal for Benintendi, Kopech +, don't want that to happen again in case any of these 3 players from the Pirates break out and won't be available.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) I don't know if it says it's imminent, but perhaps a stamp of approval that it seems to be the case. I don't get the crap Merkin gets, he's a first division beat writer. Hayes is very good too. Doesn't have the 10-15 years of relationships Merkin does but covers the necessary stuff and is a real baseball fanatic. I agree, Rabbit. Love both and are my 2 favorite beat writers. Hayes answers a lot with the fans too on Facebook and twitter. Like you said, with them retweeting the Quintana rumors, I think this rumor actually has legs because they didn't do that with the Yankees or Astros I believe.
  9. Now both Hayes and Merkin have retweeted the Rosenthal tweet saying Pirates still trying to acquire Quintana. I don't recall them usually doing that, so might there be more smoke here?
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-havent-ru...r-him/212078742 Often injured? Has he been hurt in his MLB career? I mean yeah he had surgery in the off season, but I don't think he's ever been on the DL. At least not with the Sox.
  11. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) If they're asking for Conforto from the Mets they are probably also asking for Robles from the Nats. I dont think anyone will buck up and pay those prices for Robertson's mediocrity. Asking for Conforto lol. Always ask high, then negotiate.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Man, if he can pitch like he did for them over those final 2 months AND traded for Q: Cole, Quintana, Nova, Taillon 1-4. Exactly. Their rotation would be very good along with their lineup. Quintana, Cole, Nova, Taillon, and Kuhl/Hutchison/Williams is a formidable 5. Maybe signing of Nova is a sign that they will be going for it with McCuthen's last 2 seasons with them. Quintana and Jennings for Meadows, Glasnow, Escobar, and Diaz
  13. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) Peralta is unflippable. Sox will just be picking up the money and letting him wallow somewhere on the diamond. As for Bader, looks like he'd fit the theme of grabbing guys who have had their stocks slip a bit for dubious reasons. Disagree, he's still a good contact hitter and that could be valuable to a playoff team down the stretch.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) I don't see that happening unless they dump Peralta's contract first. I'd take Peralta's contract in a Frazier trade, he only has 1 year left I believe. Flip him at the deadline then.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) I know Illinois basketball fans are pretty down right now too but honestly feels like Missouri basketball has been destroyed in a way that is hard to come back from. Three straight years of nearly all sophomore/juniors transferring away after season. It's like what happened to kU football post Mangino. Missouri is BAD. They're gonna get killed in the SEC this year.
  16. Grayson Allen trips another player and throws a hissy fit on the bench. In other news, water is wet. Dude needs to be suspended. Jay Williams and Seth Greenberg absolutely grilled him at halftime of the UK/UL game
  17. Watching the Illinois-Missouri game and this might be the worst display of officiating i've ever seen
  18. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) is it at all possible that a sub-par White Sox team affects Quintana's value if he goes into the season as the #1? i mean what if the wheels come off because of a crappy team surrounding him and he has a bad year...? That's why you trade him now. Arguably, Q's value will never be higher, especially on a bad White Sox team. The time is to trade him for both the Sox and Q's sake.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) Meadows and Bell for me. I like Glasnow, but cementing the lineup around the arms we're developing already is exciting to me. Same. Glasnow could be special, but getting those bats and a nice cheap offense could do wonders for this team.
  20. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) I heard that Meadows is unavailable, because they still expect to trade McCutchen, and Meadows would be the heir apparent. If so, then Bell, Glasnow, and Newman have to be in the deal.
  21. Smackdown in Chicago next week previews to be a very entertaining show with 3 belts on the line.
  22. Vicente: What kind of prospects Pirates have to offer to get Quintana? Dave Cameron: Would imagine Chicago would want some kind of package built around two of Meadows, Bell, or Glasnow, with some other stuff involved. I'm drooling if this were the case. Of the 3 there, which 2 would you choose? What other pieces would be included with those other 2? For me, I'd easily go Meadows and Bell with Hayes and Escobar as the final pieces. Although, I could see the Pirates be pushing Glasnow and Bell/Meadows plus others because Q would essentially replace him in the rotation.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) I'm saying our hypotheticals have been over each time. It's unlikely we get three top 100 prospects when one of those is a near ready top ten. Meadows, Newman, Hayes, and Diaz/Escobar?
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) I honestly think if Newman is the second piece coming back, also getting a lesser top 100 prospect like Hayes is fair. Kopech & Lopez both had a ton of helium and are better prospects than Newman IMO. Also, it's not like getting three top 100 types is unheard of. The Nationals were offering three for Sale with two of those guys being top 10 types. The Phillies got three top 100 guys for Hamels, although I don't think there was a headliner like Meadows involved. Regardless, it all depends on where these guys are ranked on these lists, as not all top 100 prospects are the same. Agreed, Kopech and Lopez are definitely better prospects than Newman.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 07:04 AM) Meadows and Keller fit with what the sox have been doing this winter. Top prospects in BA who are about 23 and younger. I'm just glad Meadows recovered from that gruesome eye injury. Big fan of his. His arm isn't that great, power is meh (although in our park can certainly help there) but that kid is an incredible player with instincts. Too bad they gave up Reese Mcguire though. Meadows hit 12 homers in just over 300 ABs as a 21 year old. His power grade is 55. I absolutely love the Pirates as potential trade partners. As most of you, been waiting for this to get out. That's now 3 teams publicly interested in Q. Meadows is the headliner for me. Meadows, Newman, Keller, and Hayes for Quintana and Jennings.
