  1. Merlin just retweeted someone from MLB.com that handles the prospects saying Jacobs will be ranked 7th in Sox farm system
  2. Rios brings a all 5 tools to the Pirates line up. Alexei brings more than what they currently have. Both would be huge upgrades to that Pirates offense and defense.
  3. Rios' most likely destinations are the Rangers and Pirates in my opinion.
  4. Here's an interesting take from a Boston writer. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2...with_brand.html
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) So far this is a typical Soxtalk thread regarding Sox player values. Our guys are all worth s*** until they get traded, and then its we never got enough. Lol couldn't agree more
  6. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Ken Rosenthal said back on June 30 that Rios could be a great get for the Pirates, as they had the lowest OPS in the NL there. But Tabata would seem to be the future there. If I were to trade Rios to the Pirates, I think a package of Dickerson, Kingham and Herrera would do well for both teams.
  7. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:25 PM) I don't know if I'm in the minority here but I think this was a really good return for Thornton. Great value in my opinion. I know were in the minority, but what do people expect? We weren't getting a top 5 prospect. This kid has tons of offensive potential. Why not take the risk.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) I would assume AA right? What's our outfield there, Walker, Mitchell, Thompson? I guess we want all those guys getting at bats so perhaps some reshuffling. Make Mitchell the 4th outfielder? Move Thompson to right, Jacobs in left and Walker in center makes the most sense.
  9. Anybody, that is complaining about this deal, what did you expect? Everyone wanted Thornton out of here and has been on the downside of his career as of late. Getting Boston's 11th rated prospect according to mlb.com is pretty good value. He's 22 in AA, has very high offensive potential while his defense is a work in progress. I like it.
  10. This is what a Boston fan said on another board: "Hamate bone injury derailed him last year, he was starting to hit much better this year. Last 11 games, hit .410/.510/.718 with 6 doubles and 2 HR Since May 21, .291/.390/.517 with 13 2b and 7 HR in 43 games This does not include last night's game, his AA debut, where he went 2-3 with a 3B." He has been hitting well for the last 2 months. It'll be interesting where he'll be placed.
  11. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) If were getting Eaton, I'd like to see the sox get Holmberg/another pitcher instead of Ownings if were getting rid of peavy Owings is a SS. And Anderson is a pitcher
  12. I forgot who mentioned it, but if we can get LHP Drake Britton and 3B Michael Almanzar from the Red Sox for Matt Thornton, that's a very good start. Trade Peavy and Crain to the DBacks for Eaton, Owings, Lamb, and Anderson. Trade Lindstrom to the Braves for Tommy La Stella, and a lower tier prospect. Trade Rios to the Rangers for Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams and a lower tier prospect. That's what I want. I don't think that would be far off. Thoughts?
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) I think Santiago has improved to the point where at the very least he can be considered an intriguing SP prospect. The screwball is a difficult pitch to control so he probably is going to be a guy who throws a lot of pitches which makes me worry most about his durability, but he has the stuff for top of the rotation. I agree. The kid has tons of potential.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 07:23 PM) I'm not seeing the consistency out of Santiago that I would like to, but I haven't been watching closely either. Has he improved? In my opinion he has. He does walk some guys, he gets into jams, but he battles his way through them. I think he has the will to win because he just battles every time he's out there. With Sale, Santiago and Quintana. This could be a very special group in a couple years.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) We probably won't make a new list until the offseason so it won't really be a factor, but those guys would definitely be included. Thank you, looking forward to it.
  16. Just a quick question, with the trade deadline looming, say the White Sox were to get quality, top prospects for guys. Would you reevaluate the prospect list, with new guys possibly coming in and cracking the top 25? Would you evaluate their seasons from this year or just not enough information? Thank you
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) I asked Pete Abraham on twitter what he thought about a potential Matt Thornton trade return. He mentioned LHP Drake Britton and 3B Michael Almanzar. That level of prospect. Britton is rated as the 12th best prospect in the system according to BA. Just looking at both those players right now, I would take that in a heart beat for Matt Thornton.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/boston-...deadline-071213 I bet Thornton and Lindstrom both go quickly after the break. I could definitely see the Red Sox over pay for someone like Thornton and Crain. I forgot where I heard it, but I heard that the Red Sox absolutely would love to add Crain.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) What this tells me, more than anything, is that they are committed to Robin. You don't let your manager's doghouse play much of a role in who you are trading if you are about to cut that manager loose. I was thinking the same thing. That RV is here to stay.
  20. Peavy & Crain for Eaton, Anderson, Lamb, and Owings? Too much?
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Is Chris Owings and Randall Delgado a good return for Peavy at this point? No surprise that Kevin Towers would like Peavy back. Ahh yes you are right. I did read that the DBacks were looking at the relievers too. Peavy & Crain?
  22. If everyone including bucket thinks the player out of favor is De Aza, does anyone think we can actually get value for him? Offensively, minus the strikeouts, he has had a great year so far out of the leadoff hole. I do not think he is a leadoff hitter but lower in the order that can provide speed can be lethal especially in the NL.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) You can never have enough pitching. It's cliche, but it's also true. That is very true. I put that tweet first in the Rios thread and I don't know why but, I was thinking what if we package Peavy and Alexei to the DBacks for Didi, Delgado, Davidson and 2 lower tier prospects? Thoughts?
  24. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 06:14 AM) That would be an interesting deal. On one hand, Delgado has had decent numbers so far in his major league starts. On the other hand. I would rather get positional talent for a guy like Peavy. Would much rather get Matt Davidson out of the deal and I think he is pretty blocked. It is interesting. I was thinking the same thing as to why they would be looking at pitching. Unless maybe they feel confident enough we can get a good return for Rios & Crain. Honestly I would offer Peavy and Alexei for Delgado, Davidson and Gregarious and see if they bite.
  25. Well here's something. Buster Olney tweeted that the DBacks have been looking at Peavy and that the Sox have had scouts at their games to watch Randall Delgado. What you guys think?
