Chicago vs Boston Game 3
The Sheets Stans from this offseason have been awfully quiet.

Chicago vs Boston Game 3
The white Sox have no SP depth. Keuchel is awful but with Kopechs rest down the road and any further injuries to Gio, Lynn or Cease and we’re talking about Wes Benjamin, or Davis Martin or Kade McClure starting games for the Sox. Maybe multiple. While you may say “he can’t be any worse”, there really isn’t much to support that.

Cueto has been just as bad in aaa, so that’s likely one reason.

ROSTER CRUNCH: who goes and who stays
Going to be some interesting decisions to make next week: We should have Moncada and Kelly returning on Monday. Hopefully AV on Thursday. Cueto's opt out is the 15th. He last pitched Wednesday, so would be on schedule to start Tuesday the 10th. Next start would be the 15th, so probably won't be making that one in AAA. My guesses: Moncada for Mendick Kelly for Burr AV for Burger Cueto opts out and never makes it to Chicago unless he has a nice start next week and Dallas bombs out again this weekend

Yolbert Promoted to Charlotte
I suspect we'll see Yolbert sooner than the ASB assuming he continues to hit in AAA and we don't see substantial improvement from Harrison.

Exactly. All the people calling for Dallas to be DFA'd/released are being short sighted. I fucking hate the guy and would love to punt him if we could. But we just don't have the luxury. Even if you want to assume Lance is healthy for the rest of the season upon return, and Gio, and Cease remain healthy....we still have to deal with Kopech rest down the road. We still need to deal with the fact that all of Lance, Gio and Cease are unlikely to take every turn the rest of the way. We also need to deal with the fact that VV probably isn't any good. Keuchel sucks and shouldn't be starting games for a team trying to win a WS, but the reality is he is one of the best 5 options right now, and there probably will be other periods this season where that also holds true. Respectfully, Wes Benjamin or Davis Martin are unlikely to match Dallas shitty performance. The Sox have no interesting arms in the upper minors. Lambert and Stiever are hurt, and McClure has been awful in aaa. Cueto may never make it to Chicago, and if he does, he's certainly no guarantee to be better than what we've received from Dallas. I'd swap ReyLo and Keuchel's roles myself - certainly once we get Kelly, but I wouldn't punt Keuchel off the roster just yet.

Time to Sacrifice Dallas
You just listed off a bunch of 4-5 starters, and Sonny Gray. Twins pitching still sucks, even though it massively overachieved the first 25 games. With Correa going down, likely for at least a few weeks with what sounds like a broken finger on his throwing hand, I'd be surprised to see the Twins play over .500 ball the next month, even with the weak schedule. And the covid outbreak may not be over.

Still think twins end up with Montas. Especially as their SP continues to falter and they find themselves in contention.

Jack. He has to make 29 more starts averaging over 5 IP. It isn’t happening. It’s math.

Yermin Mercedes off the IL
Crazy to me this man has survived this long on the 40 man, but i wish him well. Hope he rakes down in Charlotte:

Well, Reylo is not stretched out. And he's also been a fairly improtant piece in the pen. But yeah, he'd probably be a little better than Dallas. Look, I don't disagree that the Sox SP depth is dire. Its truly awful after the top 4. I am not defending it. But aside from ReyLo and Banks who have been important pen pieces 25 games in, and Cueto who has been equally as bad as Keuchel (but in AAA!!), we are not exactly flush with options. I too would have been grabbing guys off waivers and trying them out over the past few weeks, but Sox for whatever reason want to get what they can out of their $18M man. They probably think Dallas is a better option.

Chick, take a look at Sox SP in AAA and AA and lemme know who is a better option? I'll wait. Only real option is Kelly's arrival pushes one of Banks/ReyLo into the rotation. But those guys have been fairly important in the pen to this point. There is absolutely no one at AAA that is assured to be better than Dallas. Again, May 15th is the decision date on Cueto so I suspect he'll get a shot if his next start or 2 in AAA go better, but I don't think he'll be any good in the majors, nor do I think they'll cut Keuchel for him just yet.

Time to Sacrifice Dallas
Unfortunately, he is serious. Cueto is legitimately the only option in the organization that could be better than Keuchel. He hasn't exactly been good in AAA. Cueto has a May 15 opt out date, so the decision is coming soon. But I am not convinced Cueto will be a better option at this point. Keuchel has been awful, but defense has certainly been awful as well during his starts. While I wouldn't be mad at all if Sox cut him loose (he's also kind of dbag), I do think keeping him in the org until Lance is back is the right decision. You also have to consider that Kopech is going to need rest at some point. With how terribly thin the Sox SP situation is, keeping Keuchel around to eat some starts whenever that rest period comes is probably necessary. Sure Sox could go out an acquire a better SP during the summer, but I think Keuchel is here to stay until at least August. Math and common sense says there no realistic chance he's getting to 160+ innings though, as noted below. There is a 0% chance Keuchel will get the 161 inning he needs. ZERO. Its a non factor at this point. He would have to take every turn through the rotation the rest of the way while averaging 5 innings a start to get there. Simply isn't happening.

How do you fix Bummer?
Yep. He looked legitimately terrified yesterday. Feel for the guy. He will come around eventually but gotta stop throwing him in big spots right now.
-
How Concerned Should We Be?
Joe Ryan is a stud. He's their ace, but similarly to Kopech, he is going to have real inning restrictions. He's thrown 120 innings or so since 2020. I suspect he'll tire and also require a good deal of rest as the season wears on. Not great when you don't have 3 other really good SP like the Sox do. You don't see the Rays get fleeced like that very often, but woof. For 230 poor Nelson Cruz PAs.

How Concerned Should We Be?
It is pretty easy, but the Twins pitching is starting to falter. I anticipate that continuing to get worse. But yes, Sox absolutely need to get thru May no worse than a couple games within .500, ideally above.
