Didn't he pitch some in college? He has to have a decent arm for being a reliever in the PAC12.
-
I still think Lucroy makes the roster. No way Collins should be catching games when lefties are on the opposing mound. I guess Yermin could catch those games instead of Collins with Leury in LF until Engel comes back.
-
I was fully (maybe still am) in the "don't break camp with Vaughn segment" but with the Eloy injury, I'd be pretty surprised if was not on the OD roster.
-
True. Which I guess is what makes him a great 26th man....until he finds his way to the IL.
-
I like Jake Lamb. Always have. I almost posted this the other day when he got released. I bet he could play LF, he's a very good 3B. If anything, it proves some insurance for when Yoan stubs his toe and acts like his foot needs to be amputated.
-
If Vaughn is our new LF, how are they asking a ton of Leury? If Vaughn remains the DH, I would agree that expecting Leury to be a near everyday player in an OF corner isn't going to end well. Its also not like Leury is the epitome of health either.

It is Vaughn.

Hmmm. Seems hard to believe as I would imagine Collins and Lucroy are ahead of him on the pecking order. Carrying 4 catchers? Doubt it. I guess they could cut Lucroy, but with Collins and Yermin both iffy at best receivers, seems unlikely.

I haven’t been able to catch the games that Vaughn has played LF. How has he looked?
-
No matter how much you try to talk it into existence, the only way Grandal is catching 100ish games is if he is hurt. Sorry man.

ELOY HURT! (3/25 Update: Torn Pectoral Tendon, Out 5-6 months))

Pretty sure he was demoted to minor league camp like 2 weeks ago. I like Micker and do think he has some untapped potential. I am open to giving him a shot at some point this summer if the Engel/Leury situation isn't going well (he needs to be on MLB roster next season anyway or hes's gone), but I don't think he is ready quite yet. -

Any everyday OF that includes two of Williams/Engel/Leury/Eaton is IMHO an issue, yes. I suppose this is the set-up you have to roll with for now assuming no outside additions (batting order not really the focus here and would need to put more thought into that): RHP: Anderson SS, Eaton RF, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Vaughn LF, Grandal C, Robert CF, Collins DH, Madrigal 2B LHP: Anderson SS, Madrigal 2B, Vaughn DH, Abreu 1B, Robert CF, Moncada 3B, Grandal C, Engel RF, Leury / Eaton LF This all assume Vaughn can passabily play LF (big if), and obviously ignores the fact that Engel is out for a bit. Thankfully Eaton isn't terrible against LHP (tho he certainly hits RHP better), so Leury/Eaton covering the OF corner for the first couple weeks will probably be the play. Maybe Williams makes the roster, but I am not playing him everyday over Leury. We really need another option - even its its just a guy we put the alt camp to start. -

Not sure how you can really like Williams play LF most days. I suppose the potential silver lining here is that if Vaughn becomes a suitable LF, we've solved our DH issue. Eloy just becomes the DH and Vaughn the LF for 2022, and can re-address when we see what the Jose situation looks like at the end of his deal in 2023. I tend to think he's going nowhere (assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff next 2 years), which means this theoretically could solve our problem. That being said, I truthfully have no idea how Vaughn will look in LF. We don't need him to be good - but can he passable? I guess we'll see. -

Yeah, the Yanks aren't just going to give him away tho. -

Yeah, I mean I guess I'd bring him in as opposed to nothing, but I am confident that in the in-house solutions would be just as good as 34 YO Bruce who has been bad for several years. Ryan Braun I guess I could get behind. Lefty would be ideal, but Sox aren't exactly flush with options. -

What about his .194/.242/.419 spring training slash line is solid? Jay Bruce fuc*ing sucks. -

Vaughn is a 1B. Problem solved. -
So you giving Abreu away or trading Vaughn to make it happen?

Lol, dude I am not talking about trading Vaughn. I have never once on this site insinuate that trading Vaughn is good idea or proposed. I am talking about trading for someone outside of the org who can play LF this season, so Vaughn can DH/1B. -

Even if you put Vaughn in LF, you now have a hole at DH. Not sure discussing Vaughn playing LF gives Sox any trade talk leverage. -

Whats the status on Engel injury? Is he even gonna be able to break camp with the Sox and avoid a DL stint. -

Man, this sucks. I am not overly hopeful at this juncture. Posted this video in the other Eloy thread, but this is a doctor analyzing the video and its not very encouraging. -
Gahhh I’m all down on it after watching this video. Man losing Eloy for 3-4+ months would be a brutal kick to the nuts.
