The rumors were (partially) true: Collins to AAA
Today's lineup is out, and while Collins is not in it, the Sox usually announce any roster moves before the lineup.

Luis Robert
Says the fact that they are a mid market team and the largest contact in franchise history is $68M. That figure is almost certainly going to be beat ( probably by a significant margin) soon, but I don't see the Sox handing out what may end up being a half a billion dollar deal if Robert (or Moncada) end up being legitimate super stars that will command that type of payday down the line. Obviously I'd love to be wrong, but I'd rather keep said player an additional season under their initial contract if all I am giving up in return is 1.5 months of a bats in a lost season and 2 weeks of at bats in April. I know you disagree. We've discussed it at length. We can agree to disagree.

Luis Robert
If Luis Robert becomes a top 5 player in this league, he isn't staying with the White Sox. Sorry to burst your bubble, dude.

Luis Robert
I don't doubt he'll need time to adjust. Most players do. It may make a slight difference in his early 2020 performance, but not enough for me to punt a year of control of a potential HOF caliber player. I've had this conversation numerous times and I don't really care to have it again. I totally understand where those on the other side of the fence are coming from. And I don't see how this is a top 5 team in the AL early next season unless the Sox go nuts in free agency and add Cole, a good RF, a legitimate backend SP, a bullpen piece or 4, and a stop gappy 2B. That is a lot to ask.

Luis Robert
Well, I think we'll all be pretty damn disappointed when he leaves for FA a year earlier than he would have if the Sox didn't waste a year on 200 at bats in a 75 win season.

Luis Robert
I am definitely in the keep Robert in the minors until early May 2020 camp, but the fact that the Sox moved him to AAA already gives me some pause to thinking that is the org's plan. They're only making their own story harder to weave.

He clearly wasn’t going to play much, so this is fine with me. There really is no room for him at DH with Reed around.

White Sox activate right-hander Dylan Covey, DFA Juan Minaya
Did I anoint him Andrew Miller? I don’t recall doing that. i think it’s more likely that you just blindly call every reliever that gives up a run a stiff and call for their mindless release/DFA, over and over and over again.

To Sell or Not to Sell?
All depends on the returns. I would be open to trading Colome, Bummer and Leury. But the return would have to be good enough to justify as those guys would all be important pieces in 2020, and in Bummers case a future bullpen fixture. But you should always sell high on relievers. Fry has shown us that this season. I’d move Abreu is the return isn’t trash. I don’t expect much, but if it’s a piece we can plug in right away and see what we have, it may be worth it. Abreu probably comes back regardless. I’d be happy to move any of Jay, Yolmer, Castillo for pretty much anything. Don’t think there will be a ton of interest behind salary dumps there, though.

White Sox activate right-hander Dylan Covey, DFA Juan Minaya
You were calling Bummer a stiff last summer and requesting his DFA (when he still had options). Just remember that.

Rodon
I think if he gets non-tendered he’ll get a 2 year $8-10M deal, likely with a team option for a third year. I don’t think there is any realistic chance the Sox nontender him, though.
-
Rodon
Probably not, but $20M over 3 years is Heck of a lot better than getting non tendered and having to find a new team to rehab with on a lesser salary.
-
What does a McCann extension look like?
3/$36M is insanity. I’d play next year out. I like McCann, but he’s going to regress. Max I’d offer is about half that. 3/$18M.
-
Rodon
I’d offer Rodon a 3 year $20M extension with 2 team options. $5M in 2019, $7M in 2020, $8M in 2021. $10M and $12M team options in 22 and 23. Knowing Hahn’s track record, I would expect something of that structure proposed, and I’d be all for it. Gives the Sox a lot of upside, and while $20M over 3 years isn’t nothing, it’s not a backbreaking sum if Rodon is a reliever or even if he never really regains form.

Sox claim 1b A.J. Reed off waivers AND send him to majors
That was me. Glad to see the Sox give Reed a shot. Nothing to lose. He probably sucks, but no reason to not give him a shot.
-
Leury Garcia
I don’t think it’s a unsustainable. If anything is unsustainable it’s him being healthy enough to play everyday. Leury uses the whole field and doesn’t try to do too much. He’s a very legit .280-.290 hitter.
-
Leury Garcia
If someone wants to pay up, you move him for sure. He gets injured a lot and if you can cash in with a legit prospect or two, you definitely do it. If not, he’s a valuable piece for the rest of the season and 2020. I am definitely not giving him away for a Cordell/Tilson/Mederios type return.

The $$$$ will be spent!
I did not recall correctly, but he did play a fair amount of 3B and SS in the minors.
-
The $$$$ will be spent!
He has played more IF than OF before coming to the Sox, IIRC.
-
The $$$$ will be spent!
I think Sox are comfortable that Cordell could cover an IF position if need be. The point you’re making totally remains tho. I think it’s as simple as Renteria being caught in his ways and simply that we’ve seen a ton of LHP. Once Castillo comes back, I expect Collins to stay, and get more at bats.

GT: Tigers (27-52) @ White Sox (39-42), July 3
Let’s sweep this series. Get back to .500, split with the Cubs. Sox have a tough but winnable month of July after the ASG. Would be fun to see an over .500 July!

Any news on Kopech?
They ABSOLUTELY can get away with it. Dude has 14 major league innings under his belt. He can without a doubt get optioned after ST next season.
-
Any news on Kopech?
That is absolutely what the White Sox should do. Sign two legitimate MLB SP. Cole and Wood would be my choices. Roll with Cole, Gio, Cease, Wood, Lopez until late May. Then move Lopez to the pen for Kopech unless he's been good. I hope they do that, but I don't see it happening.

Tim Anderson high ankle sprain
Ricky sounded pretty positive when talking about Timmy pre game. Said he’s getting around pretty well even with the boot off. He said “hopefully a short IL stint.” Even to get Tim back less than a week after the ASG would be huge.

GT: Tigers (27-52) @ White Sox (39-42), July 2
I will happily bet you $20 that Collins is still in the Sox org by Aug 1.
