Do you believe that keeping the payroll minuscule will mean those very dollars saved are set aside for future years? Do you think the difference in spending $80M on 2019 payroll instead of $35M means that $45M is specifically saved for the future?

Its been bandied about for a few days that the Dodgers are interested in taking back Bailey in exchange for Wood and Puig, and the Dodgers get prospects.

Minneapolis is significantly cleaner, but maybe you aren't considering that a "big city".

I think Bailey is actually like $28M with the option buyout.

I would max out at 10/$340 for both guys. Structure as such: Years 1-5: $50M, $50M, $45M, $45M, $40M (effective 5 year-$230M) OPT OUT Years 6-8: $30M, $30M, $30M (effective 8 year-$320M if first opt out is rejected) OPT OUT Years 9-10: $10M, $10M (10 year $340M if no opt outs are taken) I think this is also the best bet to land one (or both) of these guys. Highly frontloaded deal. Doesn't kill the franchise on the back-end even if the player diminishes and doesn't opt out. Keeps the player incentived to get another big pay day at age 31 after 5 years, which obviously is important to the team. I think its a win-win structure.
