  1. I don’t live in a Chicago and never have, so I won’t be buying season tickets. I’ve watched the majority of well over 125+ games per season since I was a kid, and I am now approaching 30. And I’d fucking love to watch .500 ball. I also realize I am not your average Sox fan. I don’t see how signing guys to try to make the team competitive halts anything. Our prospects are either here or a ways away. We can afford to get sign some stopgaps and try to progress. That doesn’t mean the Sox aren’t “doing it the right way”. The rebuild will be in a very bad spot if this team is picking top 5 in 2020.
  2. So let me get this straight - putting aside Donaldson - you’d prefer to roll the same team out as last year without any major additions because you see no benefit in winning more games? Even if those additions are short term deals that don’t hamper the future of the franchise? Just....keep sucking for another top pick? M The rebuild will never end. The entire first wave of guys will be expensive before the 2nd wave has arrived and makes a difference. This organization needs to progress - they’ve been terrible for too long and can afford to begin supplementing, even if the reinforcements don’t include two of the most expensive FA contracts ever signed.
  3. Again, I don't really care much for Donaldson at $23M. But I hope the Sox are at least receptive to these types of ideas. Rolling basically the same group out there next season is a terrible idea, IMO.
  4. Mixing in some veterans on short term deals that don't block meaningful pieces is the way to improve this team, along with steps forward from the young guys.
  5. I didn't say a playoff appearance. There is a middle ground. A step forward.
  6. I worry deeply about Giolito, Lopez, Moncada, Anderson, Eloy (when he arrives) and a lesser extent the meaningful young bullpen pieces and Rodon taking it on the chin for another season. Like it or not, we need those guys to develop at the big league level and learn to win. Plenty of money to spent to fill holes and create at least a decent roster. I hope that is the direction they go. I guess we'll see.
  7. Pretty sure he'll either be claimed again or clear waivers and removed from 40 man prior to the Winter Meetings.
  8. While I agree that Donaldson probably wasn't a fit, I am not making decisions based on draft position any longer. This team needs to learn to start winning. Spending $25M on Donaldson probably isn't the best use of resources, but I am not avoiding the move because you're now the 8th pick instead of the 3rd. It is time to turn the page on the tanking days. I really hope the front office at least agrees there.
  9. Seager is now 31 and is coming off a .221/.273/.400 (OPS+ 86) season and is due $19M each of the next 3 seasons. I am not taking back Seager unless the M's eat half the remaining deal and literally take nothing in return. Even then, still probably turns into a bad deal for the Sox. I've always liked Seager, but I don't think the Sox should touch him with a 10 foot pole.
  10. I am fairly certain we won't see Yolmer out there full time. Pretty sure we'd see Rondon before Yolmer, but fairly certain we'll see a FA over there.
  11. The Sox may have success getting him through waivers later. He passed through the entire AL and most of the NL before the Cubs could make the claim. He then lasted through the entire NL for the Sox to make a claim back. So good chance the Sox should be able to get him through in the next couple weeks unless the Cubs want to nab him again.
  12. Lol, just try to sneak him through again later?
  13. Can Donaldson even reliably play 3B any longer? Didn't he have shoulder issues and then the yips after?
  14. Or $23M is a pretty solid deal, and he took it before he was forced to accept less when ATL moved on.
  15. He was pretty damn good upon return, surely clean of PEDs. I highly doubt Cano was on PEDs his whole career and just randomly got caught in his mid 30s.
  16. Cano still a pretty good stick when he's out there. But that contract.
  17. $8-$10M you can allocate to a better baseball player.
  18. The $10M paid to Cruz doesn’t mean they can’t add $10M to Machado. Not really how it works. I am all for Cruz on a 1 year $8-10M deal. Still plenty of AB for Palka. He’s terrible defensively; but depending how the roster looks I am Ok with him getting OF reps.
  19. Tito Polo is a minor FA as well too, I believe. Did the Sox resign him? If not, Sox are down to Rutherford as the return for Frazier, Davidson and Kahnle.
  20. Kind of bummed to see Clarkin go, but oh well. He was terrible last season.
  21. Still strange though...why take them off now? Why not just wait until the spot is actually needed and fill your 40 man? Maybe the idea is a lot of guys will be going through next day or two so it is easier to slip a guy like Clarkin or Tilson through waivers?
  22. Clearly someone is coming off, and Merkin accidentally let that slip.
  23. May as well add him. Can always remove him later and nothing is lost. Could also trade him or include him a bigger trade if the Sox think he has some value to other clubs. I don't find the move surprising at all.
  24. Yes. Either not including Banuelos my mistake, or someone has been removed but not announced yet.
