QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) And you've said this 8 million times in a bunch of different threads. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your opinion but this is a thread for people who want the higher draft pick, they're allowed to have that opinion just like you're allowed to have yours. Of course they're allowed to have that opinion. That doesn't make it any more logical, or mean those who disagree with it can't say otherwise. This is a message board, no? By virtue of the lineup the Sox are trotting out there every day, they're going to lose a bunch of games. I think we all agree with that. It's going to get more ugly when the guys I mentioned hopefully get moved for something valuable. But we're going to need them to produce for that to happen. End of story.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) The people who are in on the "campaign" have mentioned the fact it's more of the idea of getting a high pick than actually getting Seth Beer. I'm not sure why the people who don't want to tank have to come in here and s*** all over the idea. You're obviously entitled to your opinion but so are the people who want to lose to get a higher pick. I think it pretty obvious that the Sox are going to get a high pick. However, there is much more value in the players that can be acquired for Quintana, Jones, Robertson, Frazier, Melky, Jennings, Gonzalez, Holland, Putnam, someone taking Shields contract, than there is is wanting all those players to contribute to a 60 win team. The players that can be acquired on a whole for the current veterans far outweighs the difference between the 3rd pick and the 7th pick, IMO. We need those aforementioned players to have a good first few months. Frazier pulling his head out of his rear would be a good start.

This whole thread is comical. The Sox could literally go .500 this year and perhaps get Seth Beer in the 2018 draft.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Could happen. I wouldn't be making the same bet with other people if I were you though. You need to go study up on draft history and how teams think before making blanket statements. If Seth Beer were named Eric Martin, there wouldn't be Sox fans wanting to tank for him. There's a chance that the Sox get a better player at #11 this year than Beer will even end up being but nobody is talking about the 2017 draft due to a catchy hashtag. Preach brother!
  5. QUOTE (AJUribe @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) I've heard whispers he may be available by the trade deadline. From my sources losing the first two starts have tempered interests in a few possibly contending team. Teams that were interested do want to acquire the southpaw from southern hemisphere and are now quietly rooting for the young man to have an inflated era in the hopes they can somehow get a better deal. Basically Q is going to be awful for us because it is simply impossible for him to care when he knows he's getting traded and it completely effects his entire psyche. Hahn's a ballbreaker and l think he'd rather sit on Q before taking a penny less than his preseason asking price. I think I sense sarcasm (I hope...).

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) At Soxfest, Hostetler said that they have reports about Beer going all the way back to when he was 14 years old. They weren't scouting him then. At this point, Beer looks like a mid-late 1st round pick in the 2018 draft. He still has a full college season after this one. This isn't even like the 5th most important topic that pertains to the Sox right now. +100
  7. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 06:54 PM) I agree with your points Mark. The Sox need to play the game right, execute the fundamentals and try to win every game. If Jacob May is the best option in CF, they need to make a trade and get someone. I don't understand why they gave up on Bourjos. It seemed like he was the perfect stop gap and place holder for Tilson. Your thoughts? I don't necessarily disagree with the points, but it's far too early in the season to know if players won't be held accountable by Renteria. You can already tell he is going to be more aggressive which is a huge improvement IMO. There are going to be in game failures with this group of players, and patience is warranted. I just think we need a slightly larger sample size before reverting to the thought process that this teams short comings are going to replicate what we've seen the past 8 or so seasons.
  8. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) Dude (OK)...we KNOW how this s*** is going to play out, that's the entire purpose of a rebuild correct? And I'm fine with that...I don't care if they lose 95 games (and the odds are they will) just play the damn game correctly...set the tone for the future, let the "kids" know stupid baseball won't be tolerated (looking at you Avi LOL). You missed that point in your diatribe it seems. Mark No, I didn't miss the point at all.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 06:09 PM) Just an opinion on this. I'm all for the rebuild however the culture of losing that has established itself with this franchise also needs to be dramatically altered. That means you can't wait for the "kids" to come up and suddenly start stressing fundamentals, situational hitting, good base running and defense. IT STARTS NOW...TODAY. The current players on the big league roster need to be held accountable by Renteria. That means if you can't make contact with a man on 3rd and less than two out, if you make an out at 3rd on the bases with less than two out, if you can't get down a bunt or play your position you are held accountable. What does that mean? Benching, being waived or getting sent down...if the kid coming up is worse...who cares? Rebuilding right? But it's time the Sox established certain expectations regardless of who is on the roster. We've seen this same crap for years now going back to the last few seasons of Ozzie. And now that I think about it, I recall jerry Manuel (aka Manager Gandhi) saying the in "today's" baseball defense wasn'tmportant. Right..... Mark Dude it's been 5 games. I love how Renteria has managed the games so far (except not pinch hitting for May in the 7th, tho I understood the move). Let's see how this sh** plays out for a bit longer before we state this is the "same crap for years" or "new faces same results". Those comments would accurately describe your posts, however.
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) That's the "White Sox way..." Terrible situational hitting & fundamentals. Managers change, players change...results don't. And speaking of not changing how about that run support for Q?????????????????????????? Incredible that he hasn't lost his mind by now. Mark Lol.
  11. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) It's going to be very nice to see when we have Moncada up during those crucial run-scoring opportunities instead of Carlos sanchez, who IMO will be the one sent down when Moncada is up. (Not familiar with Sanchez's option situation, however). He is out of options. But I agree.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) You have Saladino on the bench and let May bat? Yah, Saladino even better but then you're out of bench guys unless you put Saladino in the OF, and him or Avi in CF.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) Why is May batting? I was hoping to see Leury, but probably just giving May a vote of confidence this early on the year. Would have been a nice spot for Raburn.
  14. I wish they would have let Q get thru the 7th.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Poor Jacob May It's a shame we literally have no other options until Tilson comes back. I'd give Leury a couple in a row to start the Cleveland series.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) You forgot Dan Jennings, who will be traded if he's a decent season, as there is always a market for left-handed relievers. He is also controlled through 2019. Jennings should net a decent piece or two. Same with Putnam. Big being controlled through 2019 is valuable.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) Rymer Liriano went on the DL at Charlotte. What happened to him?
  18. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) Agree. He's brutal in the field and his baseball intelligence is very low. He'll get hot for a week or two offensively but then slump right back down. Granted its not a big deal this year with rebuilding but he needs to be let go when its over. Let a kid play who may have a future. Mark Avi is exactly the type of guy that should be playing right now. He looks good at the plate. His usual self in the field, admittedly. I am not a huge Avi fan, but you keep running him out there.
  19. Nice W. Let's get the series tomorrow.
  20. Too bad he can't play any centerfield.
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) While I am fully on board with the tank and rebuild, I am rooting for the Sox to win up until it's obvious they aren't any good. If they want to make that July or August instead of May I'm fine with that. If the team is winning more then expected it's because guys are having solid seasons and increasing their trade value or are proving good players for the next playoff team. If Matt Davidson wants to go ahead and hit 250/320/440 I am not arguing but cheering. + tax.
  22. The Twins are not good at baseball. Win 2/3.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) It was warmer than expected. It was less windy than expected. It worked out ok. Now I want to see Quintana pitch well on Sunday. We can all get behind that!!
  24. Flavum..still think this game should have been called? lol
