  1. QUOTE (restinpiss @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Keith Law has him at #47 in front of Vlad Jr. Literally the only guy who had him anywhere near 100.
  2. I was all for stop gap types a couple months ago, but at this point, why even bother? Let's see what we have with AAAA and fringe guys like Davidson, Liriano, Sanchez, Saladino, Willy Garcia, Tilson, and even Avi. Having the DH spot open for a rotation is best call at this point. No idea what the point of Pedro Alvarez is at this juncture.
  3. QUOTE (Sockin @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) Derek Holland bringing the fun to White Sox clubhouse Everything I've seen about Holland has made me love this guy so far. Couple this with being a huge WWE fan and I'm on board. Yah, he is a pretty funny snapchat follow.
  4. Bring back Dunn!!
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) Totally agree. I really see 2018 being our bottom, not 17. Which is why I say take your time with the kids. No reason to blow service time in 2017 (and 18) if the team sucks balls and the player didn't force their way onto the ML roster.
  6. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 07:54 AM) I'm not 100% sure on this, but the two Swisher trades have to be among the dumbest trades of KW's tenure, right? (And that's a high bar, IMO...) When Gio Gonzalez is literally the best play you've traded away, I think you're doing OK. Obviousl KW never focused on acquiring young players and keeping his farm intact, but honestly no one he traded away ever amounted to much. The Chris Youngs, Dan Hudsons, Aaron Poredas, Chris Carters, Jeremy Reeds, Brandon McCarthys, Clayton Richards, etc., never became quality big leaguers that would have been core players for the Sox. I didn't necessarily always love KWs style, but what he traded away never amounted to much.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) He's the kind of dbag who would show up on a rec softball league and ruin the fun. He'd be a hell of a softball player.
  8. Love the banner! Dunner w a huge chaw in.
  9. Fun read. Definitely more exciting than reading about how dominant the Barons and Knights are going to be. It's an interesting thing to consider and one Soxtalk has mainly ignored the past few months. I do genuinely wonder what type of moves the Sox make if they start out hot and find themselves 5-10 over come mid June. Do they stand pat and bring up the kids? Do they say screw it, we planned on sucking anyway, so let's trade Frazier, Q, Melky, Lawrie, Robertson, Gonzalez, etc.? Or do what the writer suggested and perhaps just eat money and pick up a few expiring contract veterans to fill the gaping holes in CF, C and RF. Who knows - maybe Tilson or Liriano will have proven to be adequate big leaguers. It's an interesting thing to ponder, but I don't see any scenario where the Sox subtract legitimate prospects, even if they start out hot. And They shouldn't. But I do agree with the writer in stating that this team as currently constructed isn't nearly as terrible as every here expects.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) For those not at all interested in the Sox right now, what exactly was interesting about the same 78 win team year in and year out that the Sox have had the past few years? For me, it's not that I'm not interested at all. I said it's the least interested I have been in the Sox, maybe ever. I'm 26. I've watched on average probably 135 games a year (maybe more, but can't watch day games at work), since I was in high school. I'm obsesssed. But I've always liked that the Sox have tried to win every year, even though it hasn't worked. Generally they've been fairly competitive each year since 03, with a few outliers. I fully understand that the rebuild is necessary, and I'm behind it, but it sucks that it's Feb 15 and I already know the Sox aren't going to relevant at all this season. I'll still watch a bunch of games and root for the Sox to win until it's obvious that they're terrible - that shouldn't take long - but it's just different. Therefore, it's the least interested I've been in awhile. Baseball is how I spend my summers - I don't expect that to change this summer, but it's deflating knowing there is zero chance of playing in October.
  11. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) I can honestly say I have zero interest in baseball right now. This is the first time ever I really do not care. I know they are rebuilding and it's necessary but I just do not care about anyone on the MLB roster. I should care about Rodon and Anderson but I don't. I am in the same boat. I have never been less interested in a White Sox club.
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Lopez will more than likely end up as a reliever. Very few starting pitchers with his size and frame have held up as starters. I hope that I am wrong, but I still feel he could be a dynamic reliever for us Stroman? He's a few inches smaller even. But generally I agree with you, but Sox should give him every opportunity to start.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) How does it not jive? How do you expect the Sox to have the exact same record as last year when Sale was replaced by Derek Holland and Eaton with Avi Garcia? Aren't you the one that had Charlie Tilson hitting like .290/.350 with 30 swipes, and like everyone else having a career year? That's how it doesn't jive. I think a bunch of dudes on the Sox had horrible years last year. I think Abreu and Frazier and Lawrie will all be much better. Can't get any worse than our hole in CF was last year, and while losing Eaton obviously hurts, I think Liriano will be better than Avi. Plus, after Chris first 9 starts, the team was 9-14 in his starts. I think Shields will be better. I expect Q to be Q and Rodon to take another nice step forward. I said 78 wins is optimistic, because it is, but I think our pitching will be solid, and will improve come June when the young guns come up. This team is no where near top pick territory. Now, if they are like 5 games under around June and subtract Frazier, Melky, Q, Lawrie, and anyone else they can get something for, than yah, I see them falling closer to 68-72 wins.
  14. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) I'm pretty sure it's against forum policy to not provide a link in that case. Agreed, please do share her snapchat tag.
  15. Should change the thread title.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 05:45 AM) If Q is traded before the season? 64-98 If Q is traded at the deadline? 68-94 Your predictions don't jive... I will go 78-84, assuming Q or any other major piece isn't moved before the season. Optimistic for sure, but I don't think this team is anywhere near as bad as most everyone here wants them to be.
  17. 15 starts. 5-5. 3.90 ERA. 8.5 k/9. 2.25 BB/9. SOLID.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) Exactly. I think Whitley and Perez are being over looked in the board discussions. A few people have mentioned Perez though. If people were OK with including Keller in a trade with Pitt then I see nothing wrong with going after Whitley and Perez. Hell, I would rather have Whitley than Keller.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) This is way off topic but does anyone think the Sox should give Byung-Ho Park a shot? He was just DFAed by the Twins. Not at 3 years $10M.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) I think I would take Martes (#1), Tucker (#2), Fisher (#5), Stubbs (#30). Is this too light, too much, or close? I'd like to get Reed in there somehow.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:33 PM) Because they wouldn't want the Astros to get Quintana. I'm saying that it's a leak on the Sox side hoping that the Astros bite. Rangers call them out since they don't want the Astros adding a pitcher of Q's caliber to help them win now which is possible that it could still happen. I suppose. Could also get the Astros to pay more as well, but in terms of next year, ya...Q obviously makes them better.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) Dammit. A few sources on the Rangers side already shot this down. It makes sense that they would squish this rumor. They're trying to win now just like the Astros. That was fun for a whole 45 minutes. If they're trying to win now, why would they squish it?
  23. Mazara, Gallo, Tavarez, Mendez. Worth noting that Mazara has 1.0 full year of service (seems silly the Rangers didn't wait an extra week). So he would only have 5 years on control, 2 of which would likely be blown on s***ty teams. By the time the Sox may be good again (2019), he'll be getting expensive.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Mazara, Profar and Mendez enough? No. If Profar is part of the deal, it better be the last piece. Dude has less control than Q. Makes no sense.
  25. QUOTE (striker @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) Nate Jones is 31 and has Tommy John surgery. Giles was 26 when he was traded and a clean bill of health. Jones is cost effective but will be 35 in the last year of his contract. If we could get the Giles deal great. That being said, if you sell at the trade deadline, it's possible you get more. I dont disagree with the age disparity. While teams may have concerns over Jones injury history (most notably his back), TJS isn't really a big deal anymore. In fact, many teams think guys who have had TJS have potentially stronger elbows and less injury risk.
