Spring Training Planning and Meetup Thread
Boopa1219 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since I'm not going to Soxfest, I would like to visit ST this year. I'm working on something till the middle of February, I'll post my plans when I know I can definitely make it out -
Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) There is a difference between the Cubans and Latin Americans in general when it comes to international signings. Typically the Cuban players are better exposed and have much actual playing experience, while the LA kids are essentially kept on lockdown and pretty much just taught to show off for their trainers showcases. The Cuban kids are a clearer commodity, which allows them to be a better bet than their LA counterparts, even at a similar age. And a lot of deals in the DR and Venezuela are made in advance of the kid's cycle when they're 14 years old. -

If it's not Cuba, the Dominican or Venezuela, information on J2 kids is hard to find. I'll try to see if there's more stuff out there about this kid. -
Alien is one of my favorite movies of all time, my aunt took me to see that and Aliens when I was a kid but with that being said I'm skeptical on this new movie. I would've preferred to see Noomi Rapace come back in a lead role and have the film immediately follow Prometheus, but I really do like Katherine Waterson. The thing that has me worried the most is Ridley Scott, he hasn't made a great or really good movie since Gladiator/Black Hawk Down and there's a lot of meh in his filmography. And a lot of bad as of late. I know he started the franchise but I would prefer to see someone else make this, like Blase Runner 2049.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) Finally gave Suicide Squad and BvS a watch. Suicide Squad wasn't great but I at least found it entertaining. BvS I thought was hot garbage though. You probably watched the theatrical version, get your hands on the Zack Snyder cut. If you didn't like MoS or hated the threatical cut of BvS I can't see you being warm to it but it's way better and was received as such. Also there's a lot of JL stuff too in the Zack Snyder cut. No cameos or anything but some plot points and stuff.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Boopa1219 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they Pirates want Q, they have to get pony up and be willing to part with a guy like Meadows in addition to Glasnow. The same goes for the Astros and Yankees and whoever else is interested. I hope the Sox remain active on the Quintana front but I would start looking to deal guys on 1/2 year deals like Frazier, Melky and Robertson as we head into the new year. -

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) Question to fill the time: Who would you guys rather have, Blake Rutherford or Kyle Tucker? ' Tucker and I don't think it's close. His bat speed is unreal -

Really wanted the Sox to get Hudson back. Hopefully the Sox can do something to get Meadows in the deal, who I've always been big on, although I understand how unlikely that it. -
I like R1 but I wouldn't say its better than TFA. The characters in R1 outside of Jyn had no motivation, the dialogue was really bad. While the third act is great, its basically a montage of people trying to flip switches.

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) I read they had to score the movie in about 3 weeks? Yeah the reshoots were so extensive that the previous score no longer worked and they had to hire a new composer and he only had a few weeks to write, compose and produce everything

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) You're trying too hard. I guess you couldn't pick out a joke if it hit you in the face. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Shouldn't we be comparing it to Saving Private Ryan with the realism of the D Day/Normandy/Omaha beach landings? It reminded me a lot of Mad Max: Fury Road

Collateral Beauty is f***ing garbage. Just think of a M. Night Shamalyan Christmas movie

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I hope a WW2 biopic depicts/captures war better than a scifi movie. Star Wars isn't sci-fi, its fantasy. But in all the featurettes for R1 everyone described the movie as a war film, I wouldn't call it that but maybe those featurettes were made before the film was re-shot.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) You have to admit though, it was pretty awesome seeing the bank heist scene in The Dark Knight before it came out It was. I remember going with my mom to see it, we drove out to the city for my birthday to watch it, I think it was attached to I Am Legend. We did the same thing with TDKR. I think the Dunkirk prologue captured war better than R1 did. Someone described it as nerve shredding intensity and I think that's the best way to describe it. Here's a list of theaters where you can see it at: https://i.redd.it/fdeahkyb4r3y.jpg

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Stark on Blackmon: Jayson StarkVerified account @jaysonst Teams that spoke to the Rockies seem doubtful Charlie Blackmon gets traded: "They're only trading him if they get an Adam Eaton type deal." The Sox may have just cut their nose to spite their face? If Houston wants Quintana and the Sox don't want to lessen their asking price, getting a third team involved could get a deal done -
Make sure you see Rouge One in IMAX because you'll see the Dunkirk prologue, the first 6mins of the movie. It's super intense and very fast paced. It starts in the middle of a battle and there's some insane aerial footage. The ending is insanely tense. This really sells the 'action-thriller' tag way more than the trailer did. Hopefully it gets released online.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) On the other hand, dark and gritty sounds fun but it really is weird to have a star wars film that my nieces and nephews can't see even though we have bought them lego sets for it. It's not that dark or gritty, I would take my kid to see it but you should check it out first.

Rouge One is pretty good, one of my favorite Star Wars films. After watching and thinking about it, it really makes a ANH a better movie and the actions in that film more important. A lot of stuff from the cartoons, books, and comics are mentioned. I had to watch it twice but I couldn't point of any of the reshot scenes. And the CGI characters were really done well. Some scenes dragged on and some dialogue fell flat. The movie is slow to start but it really picks up after the mid way point. ESB TFA ANH R1 ROTS ROTJ PM AOTC

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) Yes, I hope they lose 100 games in 2017 at the very least and wouldn't be disappointed to see the same thing happen in 2018 - although I doubt it will. The way I see it, it's part of the process when you're doing a total teardown/rebuild. What is the point of a rebuilding team having a middle of the pack pick in the draft? There is none. The darkness for a few years will bring bright light to the Southside. I promise you... the dawn is coming.
-
Some guys that I would like the team to sign are Greg Holland and Tyson Ross. If the Sox sign them along with Derek Holland, they can flip them at the deadline and clean up assuming that they have productive years. Theo and Jed made a killing making these type of moves

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) I never want to see the Sox lose, but when there is a generational talent like Seth Beer in the 2018 draft class, I'd be ok if they stunk next year as long as they get him. I think everyone needs to calm down regarding Seth Beer. Put the the keg down and take a deep breath. It's okay to be excited about possibly having a very high pick but to be this attached to a player a year and a half out from the 2018 is only setting yourself up for disappointment
