Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) Getting a lot of good pieces for Sale is a very tempting thought, but at the end of the day, even if the trade helps you win more games, you need a stud ace to win you those playoff games once you get there, and while the Sox have a lot of nice arms in the system, none of them is ever going to match Sale. That 3rd pick could though

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
Having previously done some research on Arizona's prospects back around the trade deadline, wasn't there some chatter about Owings and Davidson's production being a result of the league they were in?

Chase Headley
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) Trading Quintana for Headley would be a horrible move IMO, even if he agreed to an extension since you're probably talking about at least 5 years at $15M per season. If you trade Quintana, it's got to be for a young, cost-controlled bat, someone like Castro, where you retain most of your surplus value while filling a major need. Glad to see that Hahn agrees with that logic. I'd still love to get Headley, but the price would have to come down quite a bit for a deal to make sense for us. Castro for Quintana? No thanks. Shoot for Rosario at that point

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 1m #WhiteSox want Chase Headley but dont want to part w/ Jose Quintana to get him. Controllable years key. #Padres http://bit.ly/1fbi2pS Rightfully so, that would be a dumb trade

Jonathan Mayo Mock Draft
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) It shouldn't move any spots, should it? Because any pick exchanges take place before the 2nd RD, so any team that loses a pick, another team gains in front of the 2nd RD anyway, right? At the very least, when someone resigns with a team they already played for they lose the compensation pick right?

Jonathan Mayo Mock Draft
So now that we've seen some teams forfeit their first round picks and resign with their original teams, what has our second round pick moved up to?

Sounds like Tanaka will likely post. Should be interesting development for the winter meetings.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
The White Sox have demonstrated interest in Chase Headley of the Padres, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. As Van Schouwen notes, that's a little odd, unless the White Sox think they can sign Headley to an extension -- the White Sox aren't expected to be competitive in 2014, and Headley is a free agent after the season.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) This is not a complete list, but a breakdown of some intriguing players by BA. http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/rule...names-to-watch/ Thanks!

Is there a list of players in the Rule 5 draft anywhere currently?

The Value of John Danks
I think you are selling if you ship Danks out right now as well. We know what he can do when he is 100% and I would much rather have that guy in my rotation that Santiago. Granted, I know Hector did a nice job last season and has performed well with the Sox, I just don't think his "stuff" is good enough to stick. With that said, I think you need to trade him now with his value probably being the highest it'll be.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) I'm using this as a catch all- Tekotte and McDade have been outrighted to AAA. 40-man at 38, including Belisario. Room for a Rule 5. I'm really hoping this is just a precursor to a trade about to go down

What are the chances Seattle would go for a Santiago for Franklin trade?

The Value of Chris Sale
As I imagine it'll be a talking point for the rest of the offseason and many to come, Chris Sale's value cannot be overstated. Solid Grantland piece on this very topic: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/100808...rankings-part-2 As you can see, their is only one pitcher rated ahead of Chris and that is Jose Fernandez. If the Sox were ever to trade him, it would really need to be for someones entire farm or someone along the lines of Manny Machado.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
Newsday's Marc Carig reports (via Twitter) that Granderson has been seeking a four-year deal worth $16MM annually. Lol, I'm good.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) Wes Whisler Craig Italiano Chad Huffman Kyle Lotzker Seth Lintz Brooks Pounders Todd Cunningham Dwight Smith Collin Wiles Andrew Knapp The last 10 #53 picks. The draft pick should not be a deterrent in signing Granderson. As other posters have already pointed out, you can find a player anywhere in the draft, but the probability of landing a difference maker is higher in higher rounds. Here are some names taken in the second round over the last 10 years: 2003 Scott Baker Andre Ethier Nate Schierholtz 2004 Dustin Pedroia Hunter Pence Yovani Gallardo 2005 Chase Headley Yunel Escobar Kevin Slowey 2006 Trevor Cahill Jon Jay Brett Anderson 2007 Giancarlo Stanton Jordan Zimmerman Freddie Freeman 2008 Tanner Scheppers Not much else of note 2009 Jason Kipnis Pat Corbin Billy Hamilton 2010 Jedd Gyorko Andrelton Simmons Drew Smyly 2011 Austin Hedges Erik Johnson Josh Bell I think you get the picture. There is a lot of value to be had at that slot.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) +1 +2. Sox second pick is currently sitting at #53 with a likely chance of moving up to 50 or higher. I'd much rather have a chance to go after top 50 talent in this draft than Granderson.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
The Diamondbacks are motivated to swing a trade for an ace-caliber pitcher, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick Not that I in any way endorse it, but this franchise could turn around pretty quickly if they really did want to part with Sale. Something along the lines of Bradley + Davidson + Owings would definitely get me listening. Especially if the Sox have an opportunity to get Rodon or Hoffman in the draft.
