December 6, 201312 yr Aren't most of the Sox better position prospects middle infielders? Edited December 6, 201312 yr by Dick Allen
December 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Aren't most of the Sox better position prospects middle infielders? Depends on your definition of "better." Most are projected to be UT guys. L. Garcia and Sanchez are probably UT guys, Micah Johnson is suppose to move to the OF because he's a butcher at 2B, Tim Anderson is a ways off. Semien could stick, but he might play 3B. Point is, if you have a chance to acquire a legit guy, our minor leaguers shouldn't be a concern.

I would love to see a move where we picked up Seager and Ackley. Ackley's value is in the toliet, but I think he is worth taking a flyer on. We could send Beckham back to play 3B and they could keep Miller at SS and use Franklin as a 2B/SS/3B. Ackley can play both LF and 2B, where ever the Sox have a hole depending on Semien/Viciedo/Dunn.
December 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Aren't most of the Sox better position prospects middle infielders? Yes, but none are really locks to be ML regulars. This farm system is not very good yet.
December 6, 201312 yr I think they love Miller. My guess is they will try to package Franklin in a blockbuster deal next week. I'd guess that they don;t feel like their offseason is done.
December 6, 201312 yr Jon Morosi is saying the Mariners think they have the pieces to get David Price. The Sox have to listen on Chris Sale. They'd be nuts not to.
December 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Jon Morosi is saying the Mariners think they have the pieces to get David Price. The Sox have to listen on Chris Sale. They'd be nuts not to. The offer the ends up getting Price won't be enough to make us happy about Sale. Age and contract add much more value to Sale. There's no way the M's will give up enough for Sale when they can give up less for Price. Plus, come on. If you don't hold on to 24 year old stars signed affordably through their age 30 seasons as building blocks, what are you doing? What is the plan there?
December 6, 201312 yr Seager is pretty awesome and has the trajectory to be a Saber wetdream. I DOUBT seattle trades him now that they've committed 10 years to "winning" baseball.
December 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) Seager is pretty awesome and has the trajectory to be a Saber wetdream. I DOUBT seattle trades him now that they've committed 10 years to "winning" baseball. No chance. Seattle just pushed the chips in. They'll be trading prospects, not anyone that can contribute immediately.

If you don't hold on to 24 year old stars signed affordably through their age 30 seasons as building blocks, what are you doing? What is the plan there? People talk about how they don't want to be perpetually bad, but then discuss the idea of moving Sale. That's the way you become perpetually bad.

The plan would be to get 3-4 building blocks for him. I would only trade Sale if we would get absolute studs back at multiple positions.

If you don't hold on to 24 year old stars signed affordably through their age 30 seasons as building blocks, what are you doing? What is the plan there? If the Sox could get multiple pieces- a future potential ace, and a couple premium bats, why not? You keep Santiago, Quintana, and maybe Taijuan Walker, plus they can draft a big arm next June if they want. I'm not saying "time to trade Chris Sale", but they shouldn't be telling teams "don't even ask".

That's the way you become perpetually bad. Right. I mean that's the Royals 25-year bad streak right there. They developed a lot of good players along the way, but they didn't hold onto them.
December 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Jon Morosi is saying the Mariners think they have the pieces to get David Price. The Sox have to listen on Chris Sale. They'd be nuts not to. I think a deal centered around Tijaun Walker, James Paxton, and Nick Franklin may indeed land Price for the Mariners. It makes sense for them. They also have a new $2 billion TV deal and they want to fill the seats. They are supposedly still in on other free agents as well.
December 6, 201312 yr The Marinres OF/DH spot is a mess, especially after Morales rejected their qualifying offer. Viciedo/De Aza could be of interest to them, maybe even both. They have Saunders/Ackley/Almonte/Montero to fill 4 spots. I'd do Franklin for Viciedo straight up.

Viciedo/De Aza could be of interest to them, maybe even both. They have Saunders/Ackley/Almonte/Montero to fill 4 spots. I'd do Franklin for Viciedo straight up. Why? We don't need another middle infielder. We need someone who can hit 30+ homers.

December 6, 201312 yr Author QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Aren't most of the Sox better position prospects middle infielders? The biggest differences is these 3 bring big league experience and a LH bat.

Not saying it's likely, but when the Scott Feldman's and the Jason Vargas's of the world are getting 3 and 4 year deals for 30 and 32 million dollars, a young cost controlled ace could get back just about anything.
December 6, 201312 yr QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) Not saying it's likely, but when the Scott Feldman's and the Jason Vargas's of the world are getting 3 and 4 year deals for 30 and 32 million dollars, a young cost controlled ace could get back just about anything. It also provides significant surplus value to the White Sox. Trade others to supplement the team. There's no need to trade the best pitcher the Sox have had in years and years and years.
