I have lower disc issues that fortunately haven't reached the point where surgery is needed. I've asked folks who have had it how it went for them. Some said it was the best thing they ever did, some said it was the worst. I hope I don't ever have to make that decision. That's why to me, Montgomery having back issues at so young of an age is concerning.

For a while they absolutely did although even that caused some to wonder what was going on, a few examples from my story on the state of the team November 2022: From two different individuals who agree to speak for the story: “The White Sox playing shorthanded started in 2007 when Jermaine Dye got hurt and Kenny Williams refused to call up Brian Anderson or Ryan Sweeney. Maybe they were cheap, maybe they wanted to protect Herm’s record of keeping guys off the DL.” (Author’s Note: Herm Schneider was the Sox longtime head trainer and for years the Sox were among the league leaders in keeping players healthy.) “Jake Peavy made the comment one time, ‘They have no reservations about playing shorthanded.”

I don't root for injuries, wouldn't wish that on anybody but seeing as you say, the same stuff happen year after year, another example is the pap nonsense we hear every spring about fundamentals, yet when play begins the same stuff happens...throwing to the wrong base, missing the cut off man, can't execute a run down or advance runners into scoring position or drive guys home with less than two out...that is 100% laughable and reflective of an inept organization that can't get out of their own way. I laugh totally at the absurdity of it all, not at the players getting injured. An incompetence organization from top to bottom THAT is 100% laughable.

Luis Robert is an excellent example of health mismanagement. Guy was swinging with one arm trying to hit.

The Sox injury diagnosis situation especially for their pitchers has been really comical and a sham going back to the David Wells "shouldergate" fiasco but more recently starting with guys like Rodon, Dunning and others. I'll be the first to admit it may be no better or worse than other MLB teams but the perception around the fan base is this is simply another example of the incompetence that permeates the organization. How many team doctors, trainers and conditioning people have been hired, fired (and are sueing) in the last 10 years alone? Venable said Rojas suffered a hairline fracture making a tag at third base Saturday. It wasn’t immediately known how much time Rojas, who initially thought he sprained the toe, will need to be ready to play. “Hopefully he’s back here with us soon,” Venable said. “From what I’ve heard, it’s pain tolerance. I don’t think there’s anything he can do running around out there that’s going to make it worse. It’s about him being comfortable and running out there. But obviously it’s fractured. He’s in some pain now. So we’ll give him his time to heal up and just do everything we can to support him.”

I'm assuming you are trolling because if you aren't I frankly don't know what to say. The only way they win 81 games is if a bunch of clubs forfeit games to them. As far as staying healthy, this dysfunctional organization can't go a week with out someone getting hurt. They thought Rojas only had a "sprained toe" wrong again doctor...it's fractured.

Cannon isn't impressing anyone this spring is he? Verlander looks like he can pitch until he is 55 (at least against the White Sox that is)

From DVS story this afternoon: Right-hander Mason Adams, projected to debut at some point this season but sidelined with a flexor strain in his right elbow, “is hoping for the best, praying for the best” in his recovery. “It’s tough but it is what it is,” Adams said two days after taking himself out of his start against the Reds. “Sets me up to deal with it. Rehab, and hopefully come back stronger and keep doing what I was doing.” Adams said another doctor will check the elbow before a timetable for his return is determined.

It is. Very depressing, the entire organization from ownership on down is depressing. I've been a fan now since 1960 when I was five. This will be my 64th season I have never in my life felt less hope than this year. It's really remarkable when you think about it how this franchise has been flushed right down the toilet. My thinking right now unless a miracle happens is I'll check the final score and that it. No sense wasting my time on anything else.

Given the overall state of Chicago sports right now (basically in the dumpster) why anyone would spend a great deal of time and/or money on any team is surprising to me. If any of these teams start to develop or show some real (not imagined) possibilities fans will start to reengage.

Sun Times is losing seven writers to buy outs all told including Rick Morrissey.

Daryl Van Schouwen of the Sun-Times announced he is taking a buy out and retiring at the end of spring training. He was the Sun-Times beat writer for 15 seasons. It will be interesting to see if the Sun-Times decides to keep covering the team with a dedicated beat writer. Remember the Tribune went a few years without doing so given the state of the franchise.

There were numerous games the past few seasons where they left double figure runners left on base in scoring position. Nothing has really changed regarding their hitting "philosophy" or comprehension it seems.

DeBartolo said he would move to Chicago and spend 20% of his time and business interests there. He was turned down for bogus reasons, the fact that he owned race tracks (i.e. so did Steinbrenner but that didn't seem to be an issue) and because he "supposedly" had connections with some Italian "families" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink SAY no more!) A big reason he was turned down was because he was going to spend big money on the franchise and the other owners were horrified at that prospect. He had already given Veeck money to sign LeFlore and Essian.
