That has happened recently. During the "rebuild" one year the Sox had the lowest team payroll if I recall correctly. That probably made JR very happy.

Crochet should have his lawyer sue this bunch of buffoons for lack of run support. The bullpen (Hello: Kopech) got bailed out for once. Kopech is flat horrible this year, just brutal. Six losses, four blown save chances and an ERA of almost five. When talking about how guys like Moncada, Jimenez and other were major disappointments don't forget to add his name into that mix.

On the podcast this week Chuck G. was talking about how Grifol is just being stubborn and refuses to understand that Maldonado simply isn't a good player anymore either offensively or defensively. He played the quote about Grifol defending his decision to let him bat twice in key situations Sunday in the loss to Boston and then made his "stubborn" comments...also said it is like Grifol is "doubling or tripling" down on the fact that he's going to keep playing him.

Remember Robert also had significant injuries when he was in the minor leagues including hand surgery if I remember correctly sliding head first into second base.

Doby claimed that Ditmar used some racial comments when the two were at home plate. Ditmar denied that he did but it was clear something set Doby off.

August 30, 1959 - The Sox sealed a huge four game sweep of their closest pursuers in the American League by beating Cleveland at Municipal Stadium 6-3 and 9-4. Early Wynn and Barry Latman picked up the wins. The four-game sweep increased the Sox lead to five and a half games in the league and basically ended any suspense as to who was going to win the 1959 American League championship. An oddity came in game two when Latman’s sacrifice fly in the second inning scored both Johnny Romano and Al Smith! Latman hit a long drive caught at the fence by the Indians Rocco “Rocky” Colavito (who’d join the Sox in 1967) which scored Romano easily but Smith never hesitated and slid safely before third baseman George Strickland could even make a throw. The double header sweep was played in front of over 66 thousand fans. Sportswriter Gordon Cobbledick of the Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote that it was time for the Sox to “Go-Go home…” And in 1964 the Sox won their last nine straight to end the year. The problem was the Yankees went on a stretch where they went 23-6 to end the season.

Agreed, they had some excellent seasons, the Yankees were just better. But the Yankees certainly respected the Sox, Casey Stengel, Tony Kubek, Skowron all said at various times the only team they had to really think about going into each season was the White Sox.

June 13, 1957 - The Sox and Yankees hooked up in perhaps the greatest ‘base-brawl’ in history. In the first inning at Comiskey Park, New York’s Art Ditmar threw a pitch at the head of the Sox Larry Doby. As the pitch rolled to the wall, Ditmar ran to cover home. Doby warned Ditmar about the pitch, and then threw a left hook which dropped him. The fight appeared to have racial overtones and lasted a full 30 minutes. Chicago native and future Sox player Bill "Moose" Skowron jumped on Doby which brought Walt Dropo into the fray. Dropo was 6-5, 220 pounds, and a monster for his time. At various times, “Whitey” Ford, Casey Stengel, "Jungle" Jim Rivera and Enos "Country" Slaughter were in the middle of it. Slaughter’s jersey and undershirt were ripped to pieces and his hat was backwards in one of the most famous photographs of the 1950's. After things settled down Billy Martin rushed into things and started in on Doby. Five players were ejected and fined for the melee. New York won the game 4-3.

Reinsdorf is at the home games from what I've been told. The minority owners have absolutely no say in the operation, so regardless if the Sox win or lose or get rained out from that standpoint it doesn't matter to them. What does matter is they keep getting a good return on their investment.

They have lost 23 of the last 25 games.

Once again a lack of execution, the inability to get guys home from third base with less than two guys kills them. This is simply a really, really bad team.

Entering Tuesday, the bullpen was 1-8 over its previous 17 games with an 8.13 ERA, a .342 average against and nine blown saves. ? Absolute garbage from top to bottom. You talk about wasted money on Maldonado (which is completely true) but how much money has been wasted on this so-called bullpen by Getz? Again I keep going back to as "fiscally responsible" as JR is when it comes to starting pitcher deals and paying for premium talent how he's let his GM's waste literally millions and millions of dollars on stiffs, has-been's, injury prone guys and rejects yet that doesn't seem to bother him...it just doesn't make sense to me.

Another day...another blown late lead. for the 14TH time this season...the Sox had a lead in the 7th inning or later...AND LOST THE GAME. But... Even more incredible, this is the 7TH TIME IN THE LAST 11 GAMES this has happened. Words fail me. This maybe the worst bullpen in franchise history, I do know that Brebbia appears to be another garbage signing wasting millions of dollars of JR's coveted money.

Let's see how they invent new and creative ways to blow the game late again tonight.

You hit the nail on the head. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and his philosophy is the correct way to operate a club and to "win." History has shown it isn't.

Incredibly, well maybe not, this was the 13th time the Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later...and lost! It also is the 6th time just in the last 10 games!!!!!!!!!!! You can't make this stuff up can you? Now halfway to 100 losses in the books. It is also the third time Kopech has been directly responsible for losing a late lead.

That's a lot of money relatively speaking given he never played an inning and as you said it could have gone to use elsewhere.
