Sox to Pursue DeJong per Sox Machine
That's the White Sox way. Waste millions of dollars of retreads, injury-prone stiffs and has-been's but when it comes to nabbing a game changer, a superstar (Hello: Bryce Harper...) no...can't do that! ?

Because JR feels his way is the correct way regardless of what happens on the field.

It must rub his sense of decorum the wrong way is all I can think of. Ludicrous. There's only 30 of those jobs available, if a team thinks you are very good and his track record says he is, you do what you have to do to get him.

It was Einhorn's attitude and marketing 'philosophy' that helped put the Sox in the situation they are in today. That's why I mention it. Despite he and JR both living and working in Chicago since the late 1950's, EE had this insane idea that when the Sox were out of town their fans would root for the Cubs and when the Cubs were out of town their fans would root for and attend Sox games. "We're Chicago's American League team..." (direct quote) ? Total insanity and stupidity from someone who absolutely should have known better. Maybe if he decided to take the Cubs on front and center instead of bitching about the "unfair advantage" they had because they were owned by the Tribune who also owned WGN he wouldn't have had to threaten to move them to Florida. There was a big story in the paper about how after the Sox lost the 83 playoffs Einhorn stormed out of the press box, when that was reported the next day in the Tribune under the headline, "Griping Sox Owner..." he went off saying there should be an "investigation" about the "insidious" influence the Tribune and WGN were having on things. Instead of bitching and moaning Eddie, why not do something about it? Especially when in 83 the Sox had an opportunity (much like after 2005) to change the dynamic and they pissed away both chances.

As brutal as the Sox are going to be in 2024 it doesn't matter one iota who is playing or not playing. it's a complete cesspool. Nothing can save the situation save for new ownership and even if that were to happen on January 1 it will take a few years to clean out and rebuild the organization.

Anything is possible maybe TA getting a slap in the face regarding other contract offers could result in a motivated player and less of a distraction on and off the field. If that has a reasonable chance of happening then by all means bring him back.

If they feel he's worth it, he's worth it. Period. Full stop. And it's not caring what the Cubs do, i.e. "We're Chicago's American League team" - Eddie Einhorn... that has helped put the Sox in their position of irrelevancy in the Chicago area. You are in a two team market, they are competing for the fan dollar, you better give a damn what they do.

Padres made him and Snell qualifying offers today.

The answer is new ownership which eventually will come.

Once again the Cubs make a bold strike to try to get better (granted it doesn't always work out...) and it usually has some logic behind it. What do the White Sox do? Whatever JR demands and what usually makes the least amount of sense to even a casual fan. Incompetent, dysfunctional and inept.

Agreed. He thinks he's smarter than everyone in the room when it comes to baseball. History shows he isn't.

Cease
In his latest podcast Josh Nelson says that while the Sox are not actively shopping Cease this week at the GM meetings, they will listen to offers. This is the first I've heard anything even remotely definite on his situation.

Jerry isn't selling while he is alive. He has made that abundantly clear. The capital gains tax hit on selling would be in the neighborhood of 200 million dollars AND that doesn't count what he'd have to pay in Illinois state tax. He's an incredibly astute business person, he's not stupid enough to want to pay that penalty.

The Sox will also "consider" signing anyone not named Ohtani Bruce...but that doesn't mean they will and probably won't.

Unfortunately you don't have a choice so I continue to say take care of yourself, eat right, exercise, see your doctor and hope to outlive current ownership because that's the only hope you have.

Saw where the Tigers just got a guy who gets on base a lot in Mark Canha for a minor league pitcher. Thought a guy like him could really help the Sox.

Tim Anderson Free Agency Discussion
When his off the field antics cause him problems ON the field, when his antics with umpires and fans lead to suspensions, which means he isn't playing... I can assure you fans DO give a damn. Plus it's an embarrassment to an organization that does plenty on their own to embarrass themselves. They don't need any help. Bottom line, the guy appears to be part of the clubhouse cancer issue and like I was told by a source for my story on the state of the Sox last November: "Anderson needs to go because the organization gave him the keys to the car and he drove it off the cliff. And he’s getting up in years." I don't care if he hits .335 with 25 home runs next year with the Braves or Marlins or Brewers, he wasn't going to impact the disaster that is going to be the 2024 season. He needed to go.
