If its true that the Sox did make an offer to Cespedes, then give me both Desmond and Jackson, please.

Guerrero grades horribly in the outfield but is rated decent at 3B, but that position is occupied by Frazier with Lawrie and Saladino as emergency backsups. So unless the Dodgers are willing to take LaRoche back in return, there's no room for Guerrero on the White Sox. Even if the Dodgers would take LaRoche that still doesn't solve the RF issue. I don't think Sox fans have anything to worry about.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:15 PM) That doesnt' sound like the description I've heard of it. There was a moment when the season ticket holders got to talk to Hahn after the Rodon signing and asked him how it went and he had a sarcastic "working with my friend scott boras" line where the group could tell Hahn was being tongue in cheek because he hated the negotiation. It's a relationship that "works when it has to". I guess it depends on what a person reads. While I wouldn't say they have a great business relationship, they seem to have a decent one none the less. Much better than what we've seen between Boras and KW in the past.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) I liked Jackson all along until I found out Boras was his agent. I'm guessing if you get him for a discount it will be well into spring training. Boras probably figures he can get the $8 million 1 year contract at any time so he will wait and maybe there is an injury or someone's OF situation takes a turn for the worse and they need Austin Jackson. For some reason the Sox seem hellbent on a guy who hits RHP. So who knows what is going to happen, but I think if Jackson's demands at the moment were reasonable, he would be on a roster. I hear ya. The only reason I cling to some hope for the signing of Jackson is that Hahn does have a decent rapport with Boras.

Agree with everything Law says and I think he's spot on. Anderson has come a long way in a short time.

I know Fowler would bring OBP and a LHB that the Sox are looking for but I'm starting to lean heavily towards going after Jackson instead. Both players have their pros and cons but Jackson hit RHP better last year and is tremendously better in CF. I really think Jackson's defense would balance out any short comings he may have in comparison to Fowler. Signing Jackson puts him in CF, Eaton RF and Avi could platoon LF with Melky. When there's a LHP on the mound, let Avi play LF and give Melky's legs a break at DH. With a RHP, LaRoche is at DH and Melky plays LF. Robin can use LaRoche against good RHP and Avi against average RHP so they can still see if Avi improves or not, which the Sox seem hell bent on doing any way.

QUOTE (Coach @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) Ozzie is managing the Venzuela team. Does anyone think this is a move to get him back on the Sox when Ventura is fired/contract not renewed at the end of this season? Nah. The Sox have Renteria to fall back on if something happens with Robin.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 07:51 AM) It just goes to show that fans everywhere can look at their own GMs and say "WTF DUDE! WHY??!?" Lol, no kidding. Looking at the overall shape of the Orioles (MLB team/farm) makes me feel better about the White Sox. -

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...0210-story.html I had forgotten about the Orioles signing Jimenez and Cruz a few years ago. Going by that, I guess the Orioles could be in on Fowler after all if they sign Gallardo. Really do not understand why they didn't re-sign Chen, just stupid. -
Offseason Boredom: If you could draft 2 historical players/years to ma

I'll take '01 Randy Johnson and '04 Barry Bonds. -
QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) I honestly feel bad for Avi...first sign of trouble and he's going to get absolutely roasted. He's going to hear it at the ball park. You're not kidding. The fans boo'd him pretty good at SoxFest so I can only imagine what they will do at the ballpark if Avi struggles in the beginning of the season.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 1m1 minute ago Sources: Fowler possible for #Orioles if they complete Gallardo deal. Would be willing to part with second pick, currently No. 29. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago #Orioles also like free agent Pedro Alvarez and #Reds’ Bruce in addition to Fowler, per sources. Might not have prospects to land Bruce. Baltimore's farm must be horrible if they don't have enough to land Bruce. Just a guess but I think Baltimore ends up signing Alvarez after they sign Gallardo. I seriously doubt they trade for Bruce or sign Fowler. -

No doubt the Orioles are desperate for pitching. Can't help but think this potential signing has a Ubaldo Jimenez feel to it. Gallardo pitching at Camden and against those tough ALE teams has disaster written all over it. Re-signing Chen and signing one of the FA outfielders would have been a smarter move than investing 160M+ in Davis. Glad I'm not an Orioles fan. -
http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/knuckleba...gn-ian-desmond/ http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/02/09/who-wa...long-shot-rays/ Sounding like the Rays are out on Desmond. Really didn't see a fit there anyway.

The Latos signing gives the Sox some really nice possibilities in the short and potentially long term, depending on his health and how he fits in with his teammates. I'm pretty excited about this signing. Wasn't feeling overly confident with Danks/EJ at the back of the rotation but signing Latos makes me feel better about the SP depth.

Latos throws a pitch nobody else has ever thrown

That pitch really does fall off the table. Absolutely sick downward movement. Great article! -
Nice move by the Sox FO. Hopefully Latos stays healthy and pitches closer to his 2010-14 numbers. Who knows, maybe he turns out to be the bargain of the off season.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) are either of them heros? Not yet. Hero worship doesn't begin until there's three documented pages of homerism before it can quality as hero worship. Think I read the detailed criteria on the blogosphere somewhere. Theme song for this thread... We Could Be Hero's! Oh, one more thing. Sure, I'm on board with the idea of trying to sign one of or both of the Guerriels.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Personally, I'm leery of anyone who isn't honest with their partner. If he's going to lie to his current partner, why wouldn't he lie to you? Now if you are okay with that and are looking for something not so serious, than fine, but I personally think little for someone who is with someone starting to see or even look into other people while they are still together. If they want to go down that path, than they need to break up. My immediate gut reaction is this is someone looking to play the field. Agree with everything you say and I'd like to add its possible this guy is looking for his current boyfriend's replacement before he lets the guy go. Some people fear being alone so they tough it out with a partner until they find a new one. It's a cruel way to go about things but it seems to be somewhat common unfortunately.

http://www.hngn.com/articles/177046/201602...son-heyward.htm This makes alot of sense for the Cards. The Cards first over all pick would only slide down 8 spots (25 to 33) while gaining Fowler.

The little woman and I are planning on moving to SW Colorado in the next few years so if the Sox ever moved from Chicago its possible I would adopt the Rockies or Diamondbacks. If the Sox ownership moved the team with 100+ years of history away from its fan base,, to me that's a slap in the face and would not be able to support that ownership and new team. Thankfully, I don't think the Sox are going to move so the Sox are #1 just like they always have, regardless of where I live.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 06:44 AM) Your entire argument is based on a rumor that we're tied to last year's budget, but then say "fans read too much into the media rumors". Does that not seem hypocritical to you? Also, Hahn has no reason to come out and say we're sitting on excess cash and he hopes to use it on a big name free agent. Whether he has budget available or not, he's far better off to say he would need to get "creative" so he actually has some negotiating leverage. At the end of day, only the Sox's front office & finance people know what kind of budget available. Having said that, if you believe the Sox were actively involved with three free agents looking for $20M+ AAVs, then I think it's fair assumption to make that the Sox have more money available than media rumors suggest. Wrong. First, I'm not arguing and just explaining why I wasn't expecting a big FA signing. Second, I admit that the Sox not raising the payroll is based on a rumor but that rumor combined with Hahn's need to get "creative" and attempt at trading LaRoche, imo, show that JR has indeed not allowed a budget increase. Third, despite Hahn saying they have had discussions with free agents, I do not believe the Sox were as involved as people have been led to believe by the media. I do agree with you that none of us know the financials of the White Sox. After another year of poor attendance, I don't think it's too far fetched for me to think JR isn't raising the budget for Hahn. Just my opinion.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 7, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) Was Rick Hahn lying at Soxfest when he said there were no financial or contractual restraints when they were negotiating with the big FAs, right up until the day those players signed with the teams that they did? Because whatever "budget constraints" you and SS2K5 imagine are in place today would have been place a few weeks ago when those players all upped up the way they did. To listen to you and SS2K5 go on and on about these alleged budget constraints that, unless you are an employee of the White Sox Finance dept., you would have zero way of knowing, is ridiculous. Unless you're suggesting Hahn is a bold-faced liar, you can probably put all of this budget nonsense to rest, once and for all. Again, early in the off season it was rumored Hahn had last years budget to work with this year. That was the RUMOR. What Hahn DID say was that he would need to get creative in order to sign a big free agent but had many irons in the fire. Not once did the front office say they would or would not raise the payroll so I wasn't going to assume they would and especially after another season of s***ty Baseball and lowered attendance. Nowhere have I said Hahn is a liar and I'm not about to because he lied about nothing. It's not my fault fans read too much into the media rumors, speculation and made false assumptions. Maybe some fans need to put twitter down for a while...

So which show is this on, Springer, Maury or is it some new rehashed reality show?
