Sox officially sign Rodon
Borass is Rodon's agent Rodon is signing for over slot I'd say this shows just how highly they think of Rodon's talent. Looking forward to his first start at Winston.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) Players who will project to hit 15 or more homers next season: Abreu maybe Garcia How is that going to play at USCF? About as well as his poor defense, poor BA, poor OBP, poor walk totals. There's more to offense than home runs.

Samardzija/Hammel Traded to A's
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) When you're the 4th pick in the draft you better expect some hype. Yes sir, especially when your team hasn't won it all for 100 plus years. Can't blame cub fans really.

2014 MLB catch-all thread
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 02:49 AM) Thank you so much for sharing that most disturbing image of a pregnant man with boobs posing in his home run swing. Now I shall grab a beer and attempt to drink that image out of my mind. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) @GeorgeAKingIII Masahiro Tanaka flying back to NY for an MRI on his right arm, The Post has learned DOH! Teams Interested in Viciedo
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Jones is hurt, he'll be back. Noesi is a starting pitcher, Maurer is a RP which doesn't help with the depth issues at SP. Noesi is also a guy that the Sox have targeted since he was in the Yankees organization. While not helping the rotation issues, it does create an issue in the OF though as the Sox have nothing in the system that is even projected to replicate the production of Viciedo. So you make your line-up significantly worse to make your bullpen marginally better. And no, the depth in AA does not help the Sox right now and if a bullpen arm was all the Sox needed to make a run for the playoffs a deal like that would make sense, but when there are so many wholes in the roster it doesn't make good sense to add to your bullpen. If Maurer could be a starter he would be one now as Seattle has their own rotation issues. I see where the confusion is. I'm talking about Ramirez, not Maurer. The reason I take Ramirez is due to the holes in the rotation. Ramirez is still young, right handed and a starting pitcher which is why I'd take him. I get what you're saying about Viciedo, I just don't see the Sox missing out on much if they trade him. Provided the return helps the team.

Cardinals sign AJ Pierzynski
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) I was listening to the Score today because they were talking about an episode recently where Mark Parent was caught on camera grabbing his balls and adjusting them. Obviously I found that very interesting and at the time Stoney was on, he was being interviewed, and they were talking about what you do when its in the 90's and your balls are all sweaty and you need to adjust them. So obviously that's very important. So anyway during this interview about balls and adjusting balls Stoney mentioned the Red Sox GM making players available for trades. He kind of went down the list of who will be available and when Stoney got to AJ he kind of laughed and asked "what for?" i.e. why would anyone ever want AJ Pierzynski. Now obviously that was disrespectful, and so I wonder if there is something there? I know Super Steverson i.e. ptatc doesn't like AJ, but I love him, and maybe the reason Stoney is a lil prickly around the topic is that he knows AJ has his job next? Just guessing. Anyways it was just a little thing but the most important issue here is Mark Parent grabbing his balls. Thank you for reading this. Maybe when Stone said " what for", he was curious what it would take to acquire AJ?

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Yes, to make yourself worse at a position to add depth to your deepest organizational position is dumb. We probably have 3-4 guys in the org that will be able to step in as ML relievers in the next couple of seasons in addition to Webb, Petricka, and Jones. If the Sox pitching depth is so deep, why are we having problems filling holes? The Sox have called up this organizational depth and failed. The Sox have tried rehab projects and those too have failed. Hell, the Sox were so desperate they signed Noesi after Texas released him shorty after the Sox kicked his ass.I'm glad he's pitching better for the Sox but that's pretty desperate. So, where is this depth? Still in AA and below for the time being which does nothing to help the Sox right now. I'll gladly take that kid from Seattle.

Cardinals sign AJ Pierzynski
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) and retire a sox and immediately come be a team ambassador or whatever he wants to be. Robin's replacement.

I'd welcome AJ back in a heartbeat. Could use his left bat, defense, game calling and attitude.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Seattle is perhaps the worst park for hitters in baseball. Guys like Ackley may have a bat that will better fit in at USCF than at SafeCo. I would certainly take a flier on him as a throw in on a deal. Trading Viciedo for a RP is just dumb when that is really the only thing that our farm system develops consistently. A team that has desperately been trying to fill the two voids in the rotation would be dumb for trading for a younger right handed pitcher? Really?

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Milone would be a trainwreck in USCF. Too many HR's and too many walks. I'll take that train wreck considering the youth and busted projects that have attempted to fill the void(s) in the starting rotation.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) Hahn would get AL Executive of the Year for that trade alone. Not going to happen. Why are you pissing all over the idea? One can dream can't they?

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
That's works. Send Beckham to Oakland for Milone, then send Danks to NY for? Maybe catching help.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
According to the leaks that recently came out of the Astros org, Q is off limits as of last off season and I doubt this has changed. So a team would literally have to call up with an incredible offer just to get Hahn to consider the idea of trading Q and not the due diligence of kicking the tires bulls***, a real offer right from the start of the phone call. That said, I expect to see Q in a Sox uni for years to come.

Balls!
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:43 PM) That would be terrible. It would, just ask Cheech Marin. Oh, would like to add that I'm told AC/DC has the biggest balls of them all.

2014 White Sox draft pick thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Rodon is an idiot if he won't sign for $6 million. First of all, there is a huge risk that he doesn't get that much next year. Secondly, he puts off arbitration and free agency by a year, and that easily eats up the $250K or whatever he's quibbling over now. Boras is trying to bluff the Sox into raising their offer, but there is no good reason for the Sox not to call their bluff. If Rodon is the kind of guy who will walk away from $6M, then he is not the kind of guy I want on my team. This right here sums it up.

2014 White Sox draft pick thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Exactly why you can't let a talent like Rodon get away. The Sox need all the pitching they can get, and there's no guarantees there will be anyone close to Rodon's talent at #4 in the draft next year. I'm still extremely confident they'll get this done, as there's no way they would have signed the other 9 players in the 1-10 range without being comfortable with Rodon's asking price. If they misjudged what he would ask for, then Hahn has no business being in his role. Thing is , Rodon is no guarantee either. Its a risk either way really. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) That's how it works? So potentially could have two top 10 picks next year?? That makes me a little less worried. As long as the Sox offer 90% of slot value, I believe. I'm not cheering for the #4 comp pick next year, would rather have Rodon. Just not willing to allow a guy that doesn't have the leverage he thinks he has to strong arm the Sox in negotiations.

2014 White Sox draft pick thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) I disagree. The Sox have horrible pitching depth in their minors, and lack anyone besides Montas with the potential to be a top starter. The Sox desperately need to lock up Rodon, and none of this should come as too big of a surprise to them. We talked about this a few weeks ago, but I fully expect to start seeing rumors that Rodon is seriously considering returning to NC St. or sign with an Independent team. It's just the way most Boras negotiations go. The Sox are rebuilding anyway, Rodon's future is no lock and the Sox get compensated with #4 pick next year. Rodon, if he doesn't sign due to money issues, has to try and build his value even more and as a senior no less. If Rodon goes back for his senior year he will have even less leverage than he does now. I'd call his/boras bluff. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) I'm absolutely fine with the Sox walking away if he won't take $6M. Yup. The #3 pick should not get as high of a bonus as the #1/#2 picks.

If Rodon wants as much or more than the #1 over all pick then f*** him. Good luck improving next years draft status. Rodon needs the Sox more than the Sox need him.

Yanks want Danks?
If the Sox end up with Danks I won't complain. He's pitching well and can bridge the gap to Rodon when he's ready for the Sox rotation.

Samardzija/Hammel Traded to A's
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Not sure about this. I mean, every Cubs site I've been on the fans are acting like Bulls fans when they beat the Heat in January. They're pretty damn stoked from what I've seen. Yeah they are and understandably so. If the fans are hyped (which they are), attendance numbers should rise as these prospects are called up. Jersey sales for the prospects should help with the finances too. I think after all these years cub fans got tired of wasting money to see a bunch of over paid hacks and decided to stay home until the cubs put something on the field to get excited about. As long as the economy holds out, the cub fans will return to their crumbling palace in time.

Yanks want Danks?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) Generous contract extensions to Magglio Ordonez, Paul Konerko, Jose Contreras, Mark Buehrle (but not twice), Jermaine Dye, AJ, etc. Yes sir, the Sox went real crazy when they signed Navarro. Oops.lol.

Yanks want Danks?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:08 AM) I think you mean taking on Rios' salary/contract obligations. Albert Belle. Manny Ramirez for $4 million/one month, haha. The offer to Tanaka. Thank you. Abreu is the most recent spending and in fact it was jerry that pushed the offer higher. Jerry has also shown he's willing to spend money extending players as well. The jerry is cheap comments really do get old.

Yanks want Danks?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) I will be as clear as possible and my inbox is full so I can't reply privately. There is a TON of room on the payroll. When this team starts to build we will be buyers, and heavy buyers at that. I firmly believe one arm in the rotation and at least one pen arm will be bought when we have to contend. I know for a fact they will open up the wallet when it's time. I'm not surprised. Jerry has shown plenty of times in the past that he's not afraid to open his wallet. Patience Sox fans.
