I'd bet anything that Saladino won't get in the way of upgrading 3B. This front office needs another big offseason. Not good enough clearly, to just go out and make minor moves.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) That is crazy given how inexperienced he was for really 3 of those times. The other time he was passed up for one of the best managers in baseball and a guy with a world series under his belt. Alomar would be on my very short list. Most great managers served an extended time as bench coaches or other coaches (but not all, looking at the list below). If I looked at the top managers in the game today, I'd say you have Maddon / Bochy / Scioscia. You also then have Girardi / Buck Showalter / Francona. Now, lets look at their experience before becoming managers. Maddon - Begin as a minor league manager in 1981; Eventually got into the Angels organization and worked for multiple managers. Served as an interim manager twice (never getting the full time gig) and then worked under Scioscia where he eventually got his start with the Rays. Prior to taking Rays job he also lost out on the Red Sox job in 2004. First hired in 2005 (14 years after, according to Wiki, he first managed a minor league team...for all I know he as a coach before that). Bochy - Began managing in the minors in 1989; Became 3rd base coach for Padres in 1993 and replaced Rigglemen as the manager in 1995. Bochy was the youngest manager in the league at the time and has essentially been a mainstay every since (Padres to Giants...1 world series appearance with Padres and 3 world series championships with Giants). Scioscia - Hired by Angels in 1999. Prior to that spent years in Dodgers organization and was so pissed when the Dodgers passed him up in 1999 that he had enough and left the organization everyone presumed he'd manage for (passed up too many times) and took the job with the Angels. Showalter - Began minor league career in 1985 and then joined the Yankees as a coach in 1990 and eventually took over as the team manager in 1992. Girardi - Got the Marlins job with limited experience, was fired, then lost out on two jobs. Eventually took the bench coach job of the Yankees and replaced Torre. Francona - Joined White Sox organization as coach in 1991 and then became 3rd base coach for Tigers in 1996. Took Phillies job in 19987 and was fired after 2000 campaign. Was bench coach for Indians, Rangers, and A's before taking Red Sox job. Sandy is on my short list as well along with Gardenhire and Martinez. Just because guys are passed over doesn't mean they suck. Im hoping we start to hear some rumblings that he's gone. Need some inside info on this board badly in this thread.

I hope Kanny is stacked and they play at Charleston next season. I'll get to those games

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) Speaking of that, when and why exactly were the pregame/HR/victory fireworks replaced with some dude lighting sparklers and throwing them up in the air? In the past, they used to shake the place when they went off (especially if it was an empty ballpark)- now you might miss them if you weren't looking. Last time I was at a game they were still fireworks. ('08)

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) i agree, i still think he needs more pitching reps. if he is going to be a starter, he needs to gone longer innings. rhetorical question more of something to think about. has he ever gone the distance in pitching, what has been his longest innings pitched and how many times??? don't get me wrong, i want him to succeed as much as anybody, but i don't want to be blinded by the excitement of his pitching ability. He isn't even in AAA yet. His command still seems a ways away. His BB/9 is still high, I think he walked 3 the other night in 5IP in AA. Edit: it was only 2 BB.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 06:56 AM) If Nate Jones can stay healthy, he is a nice setup man for Robertson. Slide Montas into the 7th and suddenly that's a pretty scary bullpen. That's if Montas is ready which he isn't. Not yet.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) If Hahn can dump Shark, LaRoche, Melky, Robertson, Duke and Lexi I'll be a happy camper for starters. Lol wake up! You're dreaming. Who would close? LF? Pitch the 8th? SS? I could see LaRoche given away and shark isn't leaving. Well get the comp pick.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Well, they're for sure going to learn if they don't know already that Sox fans are not in real good moods. I actually used the word "optimistic" though. I couldn't help it because frankly I am. Not for this season any more but in general, I am. Optimistic for '17 not '16 for me.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) And he's right. Not saying it will happen, but get hot and go win something like 12 out of 15 and they are right back in the conversation. But 12 of 15 just isn't happening. Something always goes wrong when we try and get on track.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) I feel sorry for whoever has to read these. Definitely used the word embarrassed among other things. Hopefully they get sent to upper Front Office. They need put on notice. We have some real talent in the minors but still a ways away. They better figure out a way to add an impact bat rather than spend $$$ on Shark.

Anderson 3-5. Time for AAA Same for Montas.

Here's the tweet from the link. @Dave_Gershman: Tim Anderson ropes a triple but injures himself sliding into third. Guy's got great instincts, ability to hit. Plays a little too hard tho.

We're hitting, but the pitching and defense need to pick it up full head of steam. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) He also said that he doesn't consider us out of the Wild Card race yet, so I don't know about this. That's crazy, but he has to say this. Can't back track after two weeks.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) It all comes down to what he swings at. The other day he swung at every pitch during an AB except one. That was the only.strike, and he fanned. If he makes pitchers trow him strikes, he should be really good, if not, he is what he is. He will always have flashes. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll be fine. He works hard and plays hard. -

Good win and excellent bounce back effort. 6 games under. Let's get to .500 and stay above it and finish with some momentum. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) The way 24 year old Avi gets beat on, it's no wonder the Sox dispatch young position players for the Samardzijas of the world and sign the Dunns and Laroches. It's silly honestly. I'd rather watch a young player with talent then an over the hill strike out king like Dunn or a flat out bum like LaRoche. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) I like Avi's swing a little more the past few days. Seems to be a little shorter. He's made adjustments and it's better. Hope he keeps it up -

Sanchez seemed to have slowed down with the bat.
