  1. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) Do we know that Hahn is demanding both? I would guess one of the two as a headliner is good enough. I would certainly ask for a Torres + Frazier + Sheffield package for Quintana If they really cannot stomach that, then the lowest acceptable offer would be something like: Torres + Rutherford + Sheffield + Andujar
  2. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) Better? Yes. By far? No. Ok, perhaps not by far, but a considerably better prospect lets say? My point is if you had to pick one of Moncada/Torres/Frazier/Meadows to have in your system, which would it be? 9/10 GM's would definitely select Moncada, if not 10/10
  3. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) I think the Yankees are going to be in the hunt all year so I don't see this happening. The Yankees are in a strange place, sort of halfway between contending and rebuilding They will be rolling with quite a few unproven players in 2017 Sanchez will likely come back to earth after his crazy second half in 2016 Bird is a question mark Judge is a question mark Starting pitching could be decent, or completely implode I see the Yankees as a .500 team, maybe slightly above (83 wins sounds about right for them, missing the playoffs)
  4. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) I don't understand this stance. What is the Yankees gameplan? They just signed old Matt Holliday to a one-year deal to DH, and dumped $86 million into a closer. Why would a rebuilding team do that? Plus, the thing with the Yankees is they can essentially buy anyone they want at any time in FA. Encarnacion, Harper, Machado, McCutchen, Donaldson... they can have their pick of any of them when they become available. The one thing that almost never becomes available is a top starter like Quintana. Wouldn't it be worth it for them to pay in terms of prospects like Frazier/Torres for Quintana, then just dump money on whatever hitter they want when the time is right? That's what I was thinking. Unless the Yankees plan on buying pitching the next few seasons? Although paying top dollar for pitching ends up not working out more. Quintana is a very safe bet to be a well above average starting left handed pitcher over the next four seasons. If we can't get very close to Sale value for him then I say we keep him Moncada is a better prospect by far than any we are discussing, even Meadows/Frazier/Torres
  5. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) It does feel like a lot of buzzing without much concrete stuff. Likely we are looking at something along the lines of: Glasnow/Newman/Keller or Martes/Tucker/Paulino as the two offers on the table Sox are rejecting both of those. Neither the Pirates or Astros seem to want to include more at this time to beat the others offer, and both are a ways of from working out.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) That's a good deal from the Pirates end though. The problem we have with that deal is it's so pitching heavy. Glasnow is a top 10 prospect in baseball. Newman is somewhere in 35-50 range. Keller is rising and will most likely be top 50. That's 3 top 50 guys for Q. That's a lot of s***. It's just not the package packed with position players that we are expecting. If they added KeBryan Hayes or another high upside type and possibly their Competitive Balance pick then that's a fair deal. Not sure I'd be super excited because of the lack of position players but Glasnow/Newman/Keller trumps anything the Astros can do. Glasnow/Newman/Keller is interesting, but we still need one more additional player along the lines of Hayes or Diaz to have the deal make sense for the White Sox. I don't feel like either the Astros or Pirates is close to getting a deal done from the rumors we have heard
  7. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 01:08 AM) I didnt realize Meadows has had an injury history. Kind of makes me uncomfortable with the thought of little depth in a trade. Maybe I am overthinking this? I've been suggesting that Meadows injury history raises some doubt about his future. He is a very good prospect, but has not been the most durable guy out there.
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:14 PM) Kyle Tucker, AJ Reed, Franklin Perez, and Jason Martin OR Tyler Glasnow, Josh Bell, Kevin Newman, and Yeudy Garcia? Seems like this is the neighborhood everything is breaking down to? Not sure which 1 I prefer honestly. I've been pretty firmly in the "have to trade Q now" camp, but if something like these 2 offers are what is best available I might honestly lean towards gambling on Q and trading him at the deadline. Worst case scenario it will be another few months for our scouts to see some of these guys a little longer at a higher level than last year. Houston isn't getting Quintana without giving up martes and Tucker. Reed and perez would be a great way to round out a deal. That pirates offer is solid, although most would prefer diaz to Garcia
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) Jack Curry ‏@JackCurryYES 1h1 hour ago On Yankees Hot Stove, Cashman said sticker price for Quintana is beyond what he'd pay. Hearing White Sox wanted at least 3 elite prospects Jack Curry ‏@JackCurryYES 58m58 minutes ago In Quintana talks, no doubt White Sox began by asking for Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier. Again, Cashman said sticker price was too high. Jack Curry ‏@JackCurryYES 55m55 minutes ago While Cashman is still making calls on free agents to assess the market, he also said he's 99.9 percent sure the Yankees are set. I absolutely would ask for torres and frazier I'd be willing to bet the current offers are: martes, tucker, paulino Or Glasnow, newman plus Neither is close
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) He only pitched 65 innings last year. It's going to take him at least 2 to build up the innings to be a full time starter. Kopech is easily 2+ years away from being mlb ready Right now he really needs to work on maturity, control and his secondary pitches. He has not pitched many minor league innings and still is pretty raw overall. He has quite a bit of ability, but he also might be the most likely to bust of our pitching prospects.
  11. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) By that logic, the Sox can't make a trade with the Astros either. Assuming Bregman isn't available, you get a package headlined by Martes and then Tucker. Tucker could be a star prospect, but he isn't there yet. It's basically Meadows or bust unless the Yankees or the Cubs get into the action... Ultimately, I think a Glasnow, Newman, Keller, Hayes deal would do it for me. Newman is a top 50 position prospect. Hayes probably isn't far outside the top 100, and you get two more premium arms back in the deal. While that is a solid return, not getting Meadows or Bell would sting a bit as I see them as the "Safest" prospects in the Pirates system. Bell is below average defensively, but nobody will questions that he can hit and get on base.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) If that is the scouting report, I don't know why anyone would trade a #1 or #2 starter signed for 4 years at a bargain for a package headlined by a guy who might be almost as good if everything goes right. It would be Glasnow +++ with significantly more coming to the White Sox
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) By this point in the Sox trade journey you have to have a star potential position player headline a deal. More pitching doesn't help this rebuild, instead it only prolongs it and makes the odds worse of this working I'd take that package all day Bell and Newman project to be solid, even if unspectacular mlb regular and I'll roll with the potential of Keller and Glasnow anyday I want position player just as much as every Sox fan does, but you can never have too much pitching. Not all of our prospects will pan out, especially as starters. Building up potential bullpen arms is important too
  14. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) Rodon had similar problems and cut his walk rate from 4.6/9 to under 3 in his age 23 season...Glasnow will be 23 for most of this year and has barely gotten a taste of the majors so far. How about he gets just a little time to develop? And an even crazier idea, lets see if he actually fails at any point 1st? I agree it's something that should cause some concern, but the idea that we shouldn't want Glasnow is absolutely ridiculous. I really like Glasnow as a prospect, but was just mentioning that he has not thrown strikes consistently at all. Scouting reports suggest he can develop into a #2 or #3 starter if the command comes along
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) No. The only way I want to see a deal with PITT is if we get Meadows back to start it. It does not have to be Meadows or bust What if the Sox were hypothetically offered: Glasnow, Keller, Bell, Newman That is not happening, but how do you reject that offer?
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) So if it is true (I take this kind of stuff with a grain of salt), then the Sox have an offer they like are and seeing if the Pirates can match it (or beat it)? Reminds me of Sale and Boston kind of. I have not seen any reports of talks advancing with any particular club. Astros and Pirates seem to be in the mix, with the Yankees lurking.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:29 AM) Is obviously prefer Meadows, but Glasnow is legit and gives us 4 of the top 10 or so pitching prospects. Not a terrible place to be. Glasnow's lack of control is concerning. He could get away with it at the minor league level, but in the majors the walks will haunt him. I see him having plenty of strikeouts, but a ton of 5 or 6 walk outings as well. Many believe Keller might be the superior prospect now.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Of all the prospects, I'm most interested in seeing where Adams falls on the new Future Sox rankings. Adams low strikeout numbers are concerning. If he can't improve that this season then his prospect status will take a big hit. I feel his ceiling is a number four starter, possibly one who can eat innings. Floor is a AAAA player
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) If the recent Astros rumors are true that they offered the Sox the Archer package for Q then what Rumbunter says makes sense. The Astros may have raised the stakes with their recent offer. Perhaps I see the pirates holding meadows and bell off the table, and being willing to include one of Glasnow or Keller, but not both. Everyone else in their farm is fair game. Houston reportedly offered martens, tucker and Paulino for archer and were turned down. Yankees are likely checking in to gauge the price, but won't move top tier guys. Sox need at least three top tier and one or two more decent prospects to get a deal done
  20. QUOTE (Username @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) The Cubs have made it known that they've been searching for cost-controlled starters for awhile. Arrieta is a likely goner next year, as well as Lackey. Plus Lester isn't getting any younger despite still being great. More importantly, they'll need to extend their core within the next few years or risk players becoming probitively expensive. That Heyward contract is a real bad anchor, and they've got a ton of money allocated to Lester as well. They don't NEED Q like the Astros do. But it greatly improves the outlook of their future roster. Plus, their top prospects are blocked for the foreseeable future. They don't need Happ and Jimenez (who probably has to shift off center), and two top 20 prospects that can hit is a great start on a package. Edit: and before anyone tells me the Cubs don't need money, look at the Yankees/Red Sox. Even huge market teams have to be conscious on contract planning. Jimenez, happ, candelario, zagunis would be a solid package. Although the cubs don't have many good pitching prospects to include
  21. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) Not that it's a bad thing but there seems like an awful lot of talk about 2 players that won't even be on the roster in 2 years... I'd rather take a chance on Garcia and risk losing coats. Neither is likely to crack the roster except if injuries happen
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) Franklin Perez or Francis Martes probably. I've been saying a martes, tucker, reed and perez package could work for both sides. Reed is blocked and his stock is down. Perez would be a very nice final piece. Neither martes or Tucker is a good enough prospect to headline a deal by themselves
  23. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) I should also point out Chris's opinion of "4th starter" is vastly different from what I and many others would consider. He believes that true #1's are "generational arms" and #2 are elites, and "mid-rotation" guys are basically what most would consider #1 or #2 starters. His approach seems to be very conservative. I'm not as high on kopeck as most are. He has shown immaturity, but the plus arm strength is tantalizing if he can improve his secondary offerings and command. He will need at least two full minor league seasons of development, likely three. Nobody knows if Collins can stick at catcher, but there is not much doubt the bat can play at the MLB level. Hawkins is a bust.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) es.pn/2jjo1Eg 8m-12m: Peter gammons on Pirates/Q. Speculate astros coming back for Q with similar Archer deal. Discuss Pirates getting Q then trading Cole in year or two to recoup. 19m: Dave Dombrowski on Sale Some interesting notes: - Wash reports coming out, DD is nervous - Use thornberg trade to confirm deal is still possible (one player was discussed with chisox prior) - was not confirmed until next da but that night, Hahn brings up Basabe/Diaz and DD confirms they are open to that Kinda continues to be confusing. I was sure we used Wash rumors to make Bosox nervous into including devers but seems pretty clear boston was not budging on him + moncada 35 mm hahn - haven't listened to yet. I figure people are bored and could be interested. I don't think devers was ever really on the table. Sox could not afford to not take an arm like kopeck back in exchange for sale either. Diaz is a lottery ticket, but basabe is a very interesting third piece. He could flame out, but the tools to develop into a MLB regular exist
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) Coats isn't even a 4th OF though because he can't play CF. He's like a 5th OF Coats is AAA injury depth at this point. I doubt they plan on giving him much of a shot
