QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) A lot of other guys in our system have potential too- the Jake Peters of the world. Wouldn't be surprised to see someone like that become good enough to start for us. Eh maybe, but unlikely sign me up for a couple years of tanking for draft picks

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
steveno89 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Good to see I'm not the only one that wants Reed. Since Houston would not be including Bregman in any deal I would want multiple nice pieces coming back to the White Sox Reed, Tucker, Martes would be a solid return -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) I'd need the Cards Top 5: Reyes (#7 MLB), Weaver (#81 MLB), Bader (#82 MLB), Flaherty (#4 STL) and Perez (#5 STL). If you do a reverse rankings formula of sorts where #1 = 100 points, Sale netted 170+ points (Moncada = worth 100, Kopech worth 70). The Cards deal above nets 130+ (Reyes 93, Weaver 19, Bader 18) No way st Louis parts with that much for Eaton. I read a st Louis fan article that wouldn't part with weaver for Eaton and I laughed

QUOTE (Username @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) Yep. Should have an absurd amount of flexibility for that crazy 2018 FA class, could speed the rebuild up dramatically and not lose any young talent. Sox likely won't be players in 2018, but come 2019 I could see a rebuilt team ready to compete with more moves and quality drafts We are heading for a top 5 draft pick the next two years in a row -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) the other thing to consider is how insanely low our payroll is going to be in a year We will have TONS of payroll flexibility as a result of the rebuild Once Melky and Robertson are off the books the payroll will be tiny -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) Could you get Turner, Robles and Giolito for Eaton and Quintana? If I am Washington I would trade Turner, Giolito and Robles for Eaton and Quintana right away Eaton and Q are under cheap control for years and both have been 5+ WAR players -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) Could you get Turner, Robles and Giolito for Eaton and Quintana? Interesting, but I don't think that would be the best use of Q and Eaton. It would likely be better to trade them individually for nice packages Abreu has a solid amount of value as well -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) Tough for me. Sox have had trouble developing bats, and think that Moncada's power profile will lead to a player with a better bat. But benintendi will be a very good contact hitter with totally respectable power numbers and probably one year of 20-25 home runs that if he sticks as a CFer may have made him a more well rounded guy. I loved benintendi, him and anderson had the same quick wrists to catch up to anything. But pretty sure Moncada is gonna be the bat we needed. Moncada has shown the ability not only to hit, but also get on base in the minor leagues as well with a .395 OBP in two seasons. If he puts it all together we could be looking at a player that does not exist in most organizations

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) I would guess 95% means you aren't getting the top guy, but the rest of the offer is similar. Quintana is under control for four years, unless there are premium pieces coming back to the Sox he won't be going anywhere I did not realize some scouts view Kopech as a top 5 pitching prospect in the game -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Absolutely. Sell on Eaton now. He'll never reach 6 WAR territory again. He's just not that kind of player. Sign me up for the rebuild. If you can get big value for Quintana, Abreu and Eaton right now you do it That would likely give us a top 5 farm system at the end of the day and give the Sox an opportunity to compete better in the future -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) No surprise, Hahn says Moncada still needs time in the minors. I would let Moncada start the season at AAA and see how he does. What is the point of rushing him? -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) It probably has more to do with the fact Benintendi came up and hit good and Moncada came up and struggled. Fans tend to overreact to small sample sizes (as seen here a lot yesterday). I agree^ Benintendi is more polished at this point, but Moncada has more power potential. His ceiling is huge, and a player who could be Robinson Cano with more speed is a welcome addition
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) I honestly think I would have liked Benintendi instead myself. You guys? Both Benintendi and Moncada are excellent prospects. Benintendi is further along in his development and profiles to be a fringe all star outfielder with quality skills across the board. He is mlb ready to contribute starting in the 2017 season. Benintendi is an above average fielder. Moncada has above average hit tool and above average power, elite 70 grade speed, great 65 grade arm, and average fielding skills Benintendi has a higher floor, but a lower ceiling. I would place his floor as Jason Kipnis, but an outfielder...and his ceiling as Mookie Betts Moncada plays infield, where offensive production is even more valuable If Moncada can become a .280+ - 20+ home run, high on base percentage hitter who can steal bases he will be a very exciting player for years

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Can't remember the report, but I saw somewhere that Hahn is looking for a catcher and Casey Kelly could be in the package. Adam Eaton has a ridiculous amount of surplus value given his 5 year, $38 million deal remaining for his prime years The package would have to be a massive haul for me to deal Eaton's 5 year of team control. He is a plug and play table setter and great right fielder.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) Me too lol it makes me look busy at work though with all the clicking and typing. I'd expect the phone to be ringing on Sale now that the Sox have gone full rebuild Quintana should net a very similar return as Sale did: One or two elite prospects, one good prospect and one flyer -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Eaton could get at least one top 5 Cards prospect outside of Reyes. Maybe Weaver/Bader as the main piece? I don't like the Cardinals farm that much to deal Eaton. He is under cheap control for 5 seasons and is coming off a 6.2 WAR season. I would listen to offers, but an inexpensive left handed all star outfielder will net a ton in a trade

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) #Nationals talked enough to #Whitesox that if want to go for Quintana to bulk up rotation and/or Robertson to close groundwork mostly done https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/806236569552175108 four years of cheap control is worth a ton in return I absolutely put Quintana on the block and see what offers you can get Say what you want about Giolito and Robles...Moncada is a far better prospect than either of them -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) For a 4th round draft pick, saying a guy has average offensive MLB starter production within reach, with mixed defensive skills that are still a question mark, that's actually pretty good. Your average 4th rounder doesn't get there. New Organizational top 15 prospects should read: 1) Moncada 2) Kopech 3) Collins 4) Fulmer 5) Burdi 6) Basabe 7) Adams 8) Tilson 9) Hansen 10) Engel 11) Michalczewski 12) Fisher 13) Guerrero 14) Stephens 15) May Still interesting prospects: Call, Nunez, Zapata, Curbelo, Thompson, Cooper, Martinez, Clark, Danish, Diaz Still not better than a top 15-20 at best system...but an improvement from where we were at

Your response to Sale getting traded to the Red Sox

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) soxtalk is just as annoying but way more interesting... It's better to trade a player one year early, than one year too late The White Sox could not really risk him getting injured or losing any trade value at the start of a rebuild Now for other domino's to fall in Melky, Frazier, Abreu, Gonzalez, etc. I would put Quintana on the block and see what offers you get for him -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Frazier and Robertson for Puig, Calhoun and Lux? LA wants Turner back, not to deal for Frazier on a one year rental If LA offers him 4 years, $64 million he will likely resign

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) His bonus. He should be league minimum and under regular control. Kinda wish Boston had not blown a year of service time by calling up Moncada in September...but I'm nit picking now -

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Pathetic they couldn't sniff the playoffs with this guy in his prime. Overall what needed to happen for the future health of the organization, and I wish him the best in his career I always looked forward to going to games that he started because he gave us a great chance to win. I'll always remember him making Joe Mauer look silly, which rarely happened in his prime. That being said this deal does have upside for the Sox. Moncada is an excellent prospect, Kopech is MLB.com's #67 overall prospect and one that is trending upwards, Basabe has interesting tools and could develop into something and Diaz is a flyer on a reliever with a plus fastball I won't judge this by just the Sale trade, we need to look at the offseason as a whole to get a better picture. Realistically we will not know if this was a good deal or not for years -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Verdugo/Calhoun and Alvarez? A one year rental of Frazier is not going to get the White Sox Verdugo or Calhoun + Alvarez. But he does have some value. Calhoun is probably the best player they might offer in a deal + one or two lower level players

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Dombrowski probably just wrapped up Executive of the Year Award. He gets a sure fire Cy Young candidate and doesn't give up one guy from his major league roster. Boston had the farm system to pull the deal off. the more I think about it, the more I like the Boston deal more than the Nationals deal Moncada has legit superstar upside Kopech is a rising prospect who scouts have raved about. I've read comparisons to Noah Syndergaard and some scouts believe he has front of the rotation stuff with a plus plus fastball, fringe plus slider and a developing average changeup. I am liking the Basabe pickup the more I read into him. He's a young player that has intriguing tools for his age. He need to improve his hit tool, but that's not impossible for a 20 year old player. Although an extremely small sample size, he did do well during 5 games at high A ball hitting .364. If he manages to develop an average hit tool the rest of his skills could carry him to the major leagues -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Or they form the super pen of all-time with Burdi, Kopech, Nate Jones, Fulmer, Hansen, etc. All starters out of games from the 5th inning on. Feel bad for Saladino, but he might still end up at 3b again...at least this year. Kopech to me profiles as a reliever, albeit one with considerable upsiude Basabe striking out at a 28% rate in single A scares me Diaz is a reliever at best Moncada as a centerpiece is great, but I really thought the package would be deeper
