Washburn is better than Schoenweis. Plus he's not coming off an injury. He's pitched in big game (not well last season), but as a number 4 or 5 starter, he's worth the risk.

wonder how somebody like, say Buehrle, would feel about Clement blowing into town and making more cash -- even though Buehrle is a better pitcher who has pitched his ass off for the Sox. That's too much for Clement. rather go with Perez for less. Could use two lefties in the rotation.

Timing of the story sure suggests that somebody fired up Cowley with even more dirt on Carlos. The overall reaction of the Sox fan base to the trade has been lukewarm to upset. This puts a different spin on it. I can certainly imagine some Sox folks feeding stuff off the record to the guy who wrote the story. I'm certain Carlos had his flaws. But from what I saw over his career with the Sox he made himself a better outfielder and he sure came up clutch a number of times. He always had big stones in the games against the Cubs. I think he's being viewed a little too harsh.

Think of the bright side: When this team goes totally in the tank this summer, the only possible move to make is firing Kenny Williams and getting a real general manager. Well, at least KW should be fired. I can't promise we'll get real general manager. But when the Indians and Tigers zoom past us, it should be over for Kenny Stanford.

Podsednik will be 29 next season. He's had ONE good year in the major leagues, one below average year (other than steals) He's not going to improve much, if any. There's a reason the guy didn't get to the big leagues until he was 27. He is what he is -- an average hitter with marginal power who IS not extraordinarily skilled at getting on base. An on-base percentage of .313 blows for a leadoff guy. And he's had five assists each of the last two seasons. Ginter will also be 29 next season. He's a better power hitter, but looks like a guy who really doesn't have a position because they bounce him around. Sorry, but Carlos Lee is worth much more than these two.

it's gotta be for much more than Pods. the only other reason to make that deal straight up is to dump salary so you can acquire another player.

Morneau has a chance to be a legit player. The rest of the infield doesn't scare me. The only danger is the Twins farm system seems to always pump out another solid player.

Maybe they're going to put Crede in the deal and sign the Japanese third baseman they watched work out yesterday

Podsednik and Ginter for Caballo is a terrible trade. Carlos has much more value than that. Podsedsik performed well below the league average offensively last year. Ginter is just a glorified utility guy. It's almost like we're tying to pay the Brewers back for ripping them off on the Valentin, Eldred for Navarro/Snyder deal. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

That's the best news of the weekend. Now if the Twins also cut loose of Jacque Jones, I'll really celebrate. They just lost the whole left side of their infield. They gotta take a hit one of these years.

just checked. rays offered Lugo arbitration, but they want to get rid of him because they are afraid he will be awarded at least $3.5 millioni he is available.

I thought Lugo was a free agent. And tampa always thinks cheap. Send them Joey B. Then if he doesn't work out, he could play QB for the Bucs.

Mike Sirotka failed a physical and never pitched again. stay away from Jaret. he's damaged goods, who has already missed major time with injuries. the Braves haven't won 13 straight titles being stupid. There is a reason they are letting him walk.

If you were certain that Larkin would be happy to play about 100-110 games without grousing, I'd be for this. He's got leadership skills and could help Uribe, Crede and Willie if they were willing to listen. still got a little pop. He's just old and his body seems to break down every year. But worth considering as a utility/part-time starter, the way we used to use Graff.

I agree We played the Tigers 19 times after the all-star break. if both teams are in the race it's more incentives for the fans to come out. Right now the only teams fans get excited about are the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox and Twinkies. And we haven't played the Yankees on the weekend for three years, which has hurt attendance
