Did I miss something?
We could hire LaRussa and Francona to be our coaches (Wait a minute, we hired those two long, long ago) and we still wouldn't win the division. We need at least five things. Another starter. A closer. A right-handed set up guy. A replacement for Magglio. and a leadoff hitter. Until we get some of THOSE pieces, this coach talk is just killin' time.

Did I miss something?
Robbie Alomar's tank was empty two years ago. He's injury prone. He has no range. He's just trying to hang on in an attempt to get to 3000 hits and make the hall of fame. And it ain't gonna happen.

Did I miss something?
Where we need somebody who can teach base-stealing -- and bunting and hitting the cut off man and lining up throws and hitting behind the runner and working the count -- is in the minor leagues. There's not much time for teaching in the big leagues -- and guys who are starting to get paid aren't as likely to listen. The White Sox need better instructors in AA ball and below. A new first base coach isn't going to help much, if any. Hell, how many of us can name the first base coach for the Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals or Astros. Give us some better players -- and then I'll get excited.

Would anyone give a minor league contract to ELO?
i'd take Esty as the four or five starter. I was impressed with his velocity and movement Monday night. Joe Morgan was raving about him on the radio. maybe he had a tired arm. He is TONS better than Jason Grilli as a fifth starter.

Beltran
Other than Albert Belle, I can't remember the Sox stepping to the front of the class in the free agent market. Add in the Boras factor, and Beltran's excellent play this month, and I simply don't see him coming to Chicago. Besides, considering the decline of Bernie Williams and Steinbrenner's printing press funded by the YES Network, the Yankees have to be considered the front-runners. And I'd put the Dodgers, Angels, Cubs and Astros ahead of us, too

Anderson is hitting well
Where did you find the stats on Joltin Joe, whom Kenny Williams continues to embrace?

As much as Valentin has to go...
sort of like how KW robbed the Pirated when he got Todd Richie for Wells,Fogg and Lowe, right?
-
As much as Valentin has to go...
oops the above answer was supposed to be on the Boras thread. sorry

As much as Valentin has to go...
all Boras needs is one sucker. Tom Hicks played the role. so did Kevin Malone when he was with the Dodgers. Just a question of who it will be this year. He'll move on to the next fool.

What happened between JR and Boras?
Bobby Hill and Bobby Seay both turned out to be well worth the money. We all like to rip JR -- with good reason. But he was smart enough not to flush money down the toilet on those two stiffs. Kudos to JR for not gobbling up Boras' BS.

White Sox farm system rated among baseball's best
number of prospects is nice. quality of prospects is better. And if Sweeney, Anderson, McCarthy and a couple of others have a chance to become studs, I'll be pleased. I try not to get too carried away with Baseball America stuff. We were ranked number one in 2000 or 2001. And it hasn't translated into too many pennant flags that I've seen.

Ryan Wing claimed by Texas Rangers
Bull: For those of us who have endured yet another season of White Sox underachieving, please reassure us with the news that there are at least a handful of players at Birmingham and Winston Salem who will be in the big leagues by the end of 2006 and transfrom this team into a legit contender. Anderon, Sweeney, Brice, Rogowski, Smith, Lopez, Ulacia, Gonzalez, Fields, Baj and you -- will somebody please push this ship in the right direction?

Ryan Wing claimed by Texas Rangers
Sounds like the Sox took a risky gamble and lost. word is Wing is already throwing. Any word on how Honel or Corwin Malone are progressing?

Robin Ventura is retiring
I can't see him having his number retired. He was an excellent player, but not at the level of Fox, Pierce, Appling, Baines or Frank. But he certainly deserves a strong appreciation ceremony.
-
Robin Ventura is retiring
always admire him for the gutty way he battled back from that horrible ankle fracture in spring training in 1997. Got ready to help us get back into contention. Then JR white-flagged us. I hope the Sox have some kind of ceremony to honor him next summer. He deserves it.

Jose Lima
ask the question another time -- after he gives up 7 runs in the first inning. He's rarely the pitcher he was last night.

Baltimore after Maggs
if he gets healthy he would thrive in Camden Yards, especially with Tejada and Javy Lopez in lineup. but he'd be running into the REd Sox and Yankees and never touch the post-season.

Maggs - 2nd surgery done
If Maggs went to Austria for surgery, then he was lying to Mariotti when he said he was down in Miami, doing great and deep into rehab. somethin' ain't right here.

Would anyone be surprised
Doesn't Hairston's dad work as a manager in the Sox rookie league. I know he played for the Sox in the seventies. excellent left-handed pinch hitter

First 2005 Word:
I've love to see Carlton Fisk come back. Probably a long shot, but with Ozzie, Fisk, Cora and Walker, that would give us some pretty no-BS guys running the show.
-
First 2005 Word:
Daily Southtown reports that Santana will be released as the first base coach today. Also sez the Sox will pick up their options on Shingo (no shocker) and Cliff (mild surprise). also sez feeling in the locker room yesterday was that JoseJoseJose and Maggs are goners.

Arizona Fall League
You're excuuseeeeeed. for now

Crede coming back
We need to stick with Crede. He's a hard worker. He still has potential. He's home grown. And we don't have a viable alternative.

Worst Day of the Year
What's wrong with the offseason? We don't lose any games. We can stir up some optimism And we can't get swept by You Know Who.

2004 Season
The Good emergence of A Row Paulie bouncing back. Caballo's solid offense. Buehrle's consistency. Shingo Time -- Gong included. The Bad Getting swept by the Cubs. Maggs getting injured and probably departing. Frank getting injured. Crede regressing Garland failing to step forward.
