  1. we're 3-12 in the last 15. As bad as things got last season, we never had a stretch that bad. we had two stretches where we went 5-10. That's as bad as it got. So ... maybe this season we'll only have one bad stretch. Try to remember this is a team that won nine consecutive series before the meltdown began against Boston. There are no guarantees, but things will get better. They can't get worse.
  2. Jay who? Jay Payton? He could play left field.
  3. i agree it's time to boot Pods. He's a one-trick pony who can no longer perform the trick. baseball players are rated on five skills. ability to hit -- he's average at best. hit for power -- way below average for a corner outfielder field -- he's unwatchable throw -- noodle arm. run -- I guess he can, but he couldn't beat out a critical infield hit against the Twinkies and no longer steals bases. He's the guy who needs to go, go, go.
  4. the best is yet to come. the worst is about over. starting pitching will stabilize. bullpen is solid. Thome and PK will get hot again. we'll make one deal for an outfielder to replace Pods. it will be a grind, but we'll survive.
  5. it's going to be OK. we'll scratch out a run or two and win this game. have faith, people.
  6. Sox will win tonight. Jose will lock in. we'll scratch out a few runs. and the good times will return. book it.
  7. I missed the Tigers' funk. They lost three of four to Yankees and two of three to BoSox. That's no funk. That's getting outplayed. They'll have a bad 10-15 game stretch. We have to be in position to take advantage. I refuse to believe this team is finished. Too much talent, too much pride. I predict a win over Santana tonight.
  8. This team is not as bad as it is playing now -- and it's not as good as it looked when it spanked the Reds, Cardinals, Astros and Pirates. This little funk will end soon and we'll have two months to grind it out to the finish. The offense will start generating more runs and take some pressure off the starters. (Looking at AJ and Jermaine, does anybody else think it would have been for them to skip the all-star game and chill. I know AJ didn't play in Pittsburgh, but he looks pretty tired at the dish these days.) There's no way the Twins can play .800 baseball for the next two months. They will return to earth and have a flat streak. And the Tigers are overdue for a funk. EVERY team has one. That's my story -- and I'm sticking with it.
  9. are you saying Contreras can't outpitch Santana? refuse to believe that.
  10. we will beat Santana. we will beat Santana we will beat Santana. say it. think it. believe it. live it.
  11. don't worry. we'll handle Santana.
  12. gotta take advantage of that break. gotta
  13. it's a bad call when you saw how hard and how far Cuddyer hit that ball, knowing Javy's pattern this season and knowing badly we have to win this game with Santana on the mound tomorrow. nice break from the ump
  14. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:54 AM) Can someone give Ozzie a brain transplant? Javy had no business finishing the 6th, much less starting the 7th. It was clear that he was done, as he was in his last start. And yet Ozzie lets him start a new fire in the 7th. Ozzie isn't a horrible manager, but this kind of decision (which is makes too often) is pure incomptence. or pure stubborness. either way it kills the team
  15. kwilliams said in the dugout that the idea of getting MacDougal was to shorten the game for the starters. so tonight Javy comes back out to pitch the seventh after he spiffs his pants in the sixth? somebody explain that one.
  16. twins doing this without Hunter and Stewart? impressive. And over the last five years this is a team that has replaced AJ, Ortiz, Mienkie, Rivas, Guzman, Koskie, Jacque Jones, Kielty, Hawkins, Cy Mays, Guardado and others I can't remember. That's impressive, too. pretty strong reminder what two knockout starters, a good pen and a good farm system can do.
  17. he is indeed wearing 26. who was the last Sox player to wear 26?
  18. kenny williams was just on the comcast pre=game show. said the Sox were not trading a pitcher on the big-league roster. Said Konerko came up to him in the clubhouse and THANKED him for acquring MacDougal. The TV guys said the Sox might be simply trying to drive up the price on Soriano for the tigers. said they might get him and then spin him off to another team. that's all I heard. they also just said MacDougal was supposed to arrive a little bit after game time, but was not expected to pitch tonight.
  19. just heard Kenny Williams on XM radio. he said the Sox ARE NOT going to trade any pitchers on the major league roster. Said he went to the clubhouse early to talk to BMac to tell him that.
  20. Sweeney has shown little pop for a corner outfielder. Fields has been consistent all year and is older. I predict Fields, Stewart, Montero, Tim Redding (mlb experience) and Heath Phillips (another lefty).
  21. What was Robbie's number? Give him that one. It's available.
  22. paulie was standing right there, too. he's the Captain. He needs to speak to Garland.
  23. This was obviously done to help the pitchers. Maybe some of them complained about Widger's game-calling. The coaches will take the hit by criticizing his preparation. But I wonder if one of the pitchers told Coop that they weren't comfortable working with Widger and the move was made.
  24. i'll say this about Widgie. His three-run jack against Randy Johnson in that Sunday game when we hit four homers in one inning was one of the biggest hits of last August. he helped last season. A bunch. But last season is OVAH. we need to keep fine-tuning and I'm confident Kenny Williams will find us somebody to love.
  25. Where's Officer Karkovice when you need him?
