Widgie is the backup catcher. He won't be the reason this season is won or lost. it's up to Freddy, Javy and Buehrle to pick it up. It that doesn't happen, we got problems. it's pretty much that simple.

in defense of ozzie, AJ can't play 140 games. his bat looked slow last night as he grounded out to second softly several times. unless they bring Stewart up from Charlotte (highly unlikely), we're going to have to live with Widgie once a week.

we all know the five horsemen need to get their s*** together. As a guy who is around the team all the time, what Hawk and DJ need to tell us is: A)Why has Freddy become a soft tosser and curveball addict? B) Why does Vaz lose concentraion? C) What's Buehrle doing to fix his ability to pinpoint the ball? D) Is Garland capable of getting into the kind of groove he found last spring -- and October? E) Can the Count dominate over the last two months again? Insight. We don't get any from our TV guys. Shame.

I'm just wondering if we're seeing the effects from last season. guys throwing all those innings, all those complete games in October. The mileage adds up. One less month off. they could be wearing down. Freddy has lost velocity. Cliff is toast. Buehrle is off. just a thought.

Ozzie has a chance to turn this into a positive for his image. I hope he takes it. and I hope Tracey succeeds.

gotta hope that Freddy steps up tomorrow because you know the Yankees are going for the kill shot and the Tigers ain't losing to the Royals all weekend. Frightening thought to go into Detroit 5 1/2 out, needing to win at least two. But it's sure possible.
