  1. don't think he would have been our best starter -- but he didn't need to be. He could have been one of our best FIVE starters. Then we could have traded one of the others for either a LF or some bullpen arms. BMac was wasted this season. He didn't want to pitch out of the pen -- and he wasn't very good doing it. Sad, but true.
  2. Reload. too soon to break up a team one year removed from the world series, even though about 10 guys are already gone., As for the starters, I agree that we should make all of them available and see who brings the best offer. My guess is that would be Garland because he's the youngest, has won the most games the last two years and has stayed healthy. I believe Jose is the one who should be moved. I'd say he'd have more value that soft-tossing Freddy and head case Vaz. Plus, at his age, Jose's value will only go down. buy low, sell high.
  3. The Fat Lady has officially grabbed the microphone. Somebody wake me in November, when trading season begins. out
  4. let's see, we've had Sandy Alomar, Jim Thome, Robbie Alomar, Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton and others. Surely there is some really old former Indian who needs cash and would be willing to play left field for us next year. If we're going to get somebody from Arizona, how about .... CHRIS YOUNG???????????
  5. buyer beware on Baby Sarge. He ain't gonna hit like that again. There's a reason he's played on about 20 teams. we need to find either a LF or SS who can hit leadoff. ain't many of those.
  6. It's baseball. don't try to explain it. Can't. last year this team won 16 of its last 17. Was it a 16-1 team? Not really. Not at all. This year the team has been bad since the Boston series before the break. Why? There are probably 25 reasons. But it's just the way it is. Enjoy 2005. We'll never see another season just like that again -- wire to wire, unmatched drama and 11-1 post-seaons performance. But at least we have that.
  7. 7-6 just like the entire season. ozzie will rip some players soon. players will rip him anonymously then the s*** will really fly. hope so. can you imagine the plane ride home right now?
  8. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) I can honestly say that this year wasn't even fun to watch. Even in other years (losing years, in fact), they were at least still enjoyable to watch. This year was just one kick in the junk after another. I couldn't agree more. this season was never relaxing. always holes in the team. Weird s*** going on. change the roster and move on.
  9. it's time for us to start debating who want in LF, at SS, backup catcher and in the bullpen. backup the truck. time to clean house. and bring back Rowand. of all the guys we traded away, he's the one I think we missed most in the clubhouse.
  10. I can take or leave the superstition. But it's hardly worth an entire column. how the White Sox will finish the season, how the Liriano injury affects the Twins, how the Tigers are playing, those are all more relevant topics than what Hawk Harrelson has to say.
  11. Who is this Mariotti guy? Never heard of him. Tell me what Morrissey and Downey had to say.
  12. big difference between things being possible and things being highly unlikely. Can't remember the last time this team won five in a row. believe it has only won four straight once since the all-star break. unless we get real hot, real quick, we'll be watching world series DVDs in three weeks.
  13. actually it was last night -- forever known as Black Tuesday. Tigers win on walkoff. Twinkies hang four on Oakland in the eighth. We soil our diapers.
  14. Either MaY 21 or July 2 -- when we failed to sweep the Cubs twice.
  15. wonder what was said in the first base dugout when that four-spot for the Twinkies went up.
  16. Angels farm system is stocked. They've got prospects at nearly every position. Toss in one of their studs and it could happen. I love Crede, but his back issues, the Boras factor and the presence of Fields makes me believe he could be the next piece out of town because he's got value. But we have to get a top of the line prospect, plus Figgins.
  17. The sox first hit will be: A -- by Jermaine B -- by AJ C -- by Mack D -- tomorrow night.
  18. pods last big hit was against ... Brad Lidge?
  19. Tribe doing its part, for the record. for the record, mauer is pretty damn good. going to be a b**** to deal with until he's a free agent and goes to the Yankees.
  20. Twinkie land pretty cocky on their pre-game show. they believe they own us.
  21. Javy will still be around next year is my guess. freddy will be gone. He's the one making the stupid comments. Javy has retained more velocity. Maybe Coop can get a little more out of Javy. But I would have preferred to deal Anderson, instead of Young.
  22. i'll take JAVY over Duque (don't forget Shea is one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball). I just wish we could have made that trade without Young. Also wish our system could produce some Morneaus, Bartletts and Puntos, scrappers who kick our tail.
  23. Only thing to remember about Pods (Other than the dinger against Lidge, of course): HE GAWN!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Chris Young, the best prospect the Sox have traded away since (fill in the blank), got called up to Arizona Friday. Had a single in three at bats after a solid season in Tucson. He's featured on the Baseball America web page today. every time Javy has one of his meltdowns (I've heard that it happens sometimes), check this kid's line in the box score and remember what might have been. Razor Shines, his manager at Birmingham last season, sez he's better than Anderson, better than Sweeney, better than Owens, better than anybody in the Sox system. at least we'll see him play when he comes to Wrigley every year.
  25. sweeney and Fields won't be here. they're going to venezuela in late september with Charlotte manager Razor Shines for spring training before the season begins. Fields will be working on playing left field and Shines has been told to play Sweeney in centerfield. Draw your own conclusions. Logan WILL be here. Owens will be here to pinch run. Tracey will probably be here, but he won't be of much help except in blowouts. Stewart might be here, but my sense is that Razor Shines, actually likes Molina better than Stewart. Says they are similar as catchers and that Molina will hit better. Phillips won't be here.
