  1. When did Michael Cuddyer become Tom Brunansky?
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) As long as it's not Mr. No Tools If Garcia goes out there with his mediocre stuff, we might get ourselves in a massive hole. does he have any other kind of stuff? haven't seen it much since last seasoon. believe he did lose a one-hitter in the twinkie palace about a year ago
  3. nice start. did I read that Adam Bernaro went straight from blanking us to the DL? Now Boof
  4. now playing left field for your 2007 white Sox Josh Fields.
  5. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) I will forever abhor Baseball Prospectus for writing that the 2005 Sox would finish in "the basement" of the division w/ KC. You are absolutely right. the 2005 book wrote some of the meanest, dismissive predictions I've ever read about the Sox. And read the 2006 book. They didn't admit they were wrong. They suggested the Sox were lucky and statistical freaks for winning all those one-run games. I read Baseball Prospectus. But they have folks there who enjoy bashing the crap out of the White Sox, especially Kenny Williams.
  6. garland has been solid. If he could just improve his changeup (and not have it knocked outta the park so much) he could move to the next level and truly become a No 2 starter. Right now he's a four or five and frequently benefits from pitching in that spot in the rotation.
  7. we are we going to put in the rotation? Heath Phillips? BMac ain't ready to start -- and it would be unwise to start him after using him in the pen all year.
  8. not quitting is admirable. rather see this team put the hammer down and punish some good teams on occasion.
  9. When was the last series we swept? The Cardinals?
  10. we need to win the series to build any confidence. if we lose tonight, we're 1-5 against the team we would probably play in the post-season if we make it. plus, we're 1-3 on the homestand. no win tonight, no confidence.
  11. get rid of him. guy shouldn't be talking like that in the middle of the most important games of the season. take another toke and hit the road, Freddy.
  12. exercise JD's option and make the decision next year. we have bigger fish to fry -- finding somebody to replace Pods (who has to go), locking up Crede and making a decision on a SS. Not to mention finding another starter. JD at the price of the option is worth it. His current price (vs. Maggs) as well as his productivity is what has made him so valuable.
  13. on TV, could see multiple Yankees fans sitting in seats near the Sox dugout, including the first row. My question: What freaking Sox fans gives or sells their tickets to Yankees fans in that location? That's crap. Saw the same thing when the Red Sox were in town. Sox fans can't get good seats, but there were Red Sox fans in all the best areas. Very annoying.
  14. frustration reigns because Sox Nation believed the additions of Thome and Javy would make this team even stronger. life ain't that simple. tigers have been relentlessly magnificent, showing no signs of the stumble we delivered last season. Sox fans thought that we would overcome that 2 or 3 game hole by the all-star break. Instead, we stumbled against the Red sox and kept stumbling for the next two weeks. better now, but Detroit is outtasight, so we're in a dogfight with two teams for one wildcard spot. the b****ing will be here the rest of the season.
  15. Robbie Mack can play RF, LF, or the infield he cannot play CF. breaks back on balls that come in. poor on diving catches. average arm. we either got to get Anderson better offensively or go get somebody.
  16. pitching, pitching and Pods. Buehrle's ERA is nearly 10 since July 1. He's been worse than Danny Wright, Todd Ritchie or Navarro. Garcia hasn't been much better. throw in a standstill segment at the top of the order, and it's tough to remain confident.
  17. hate to pour water on a good story line, but Belle and Navarro were Ron Schuler and Jerry Reinsdorf productions.
  18. who wants to get the data to Kenny Williams, Ozzie, Brooks Boyer, Reinsdorf, Cooper and anybody else that needs to see it? we desperately need one of those trademark eight-game winning streaks.
  19. playing the Jays in Toronto with Halladay pitching the first game will be a good test. we should have at least Paulie back and maybe Thome. winning 2 of 3 there -- and therefore 2 of 3 in all three series on this trip -- would be nice. But we gotta get on a positive roll soon because we're fighting some quality teams for the wildcard and we obviously don't have that cushion we had last season. It's just really hard to be optimistic when we have four starters who have been as ordinary as our four have been. no way around that.
  20. yep. too late for towel throwing. just need to hope that one (VAz) or two (Buehrle) of the starters gets hot. the bullpen kicks in a little more. Thome and Paulie really heat up. and Pods pulls his nose out of his rectum. A lot to hope for, but that's where we're at.
  21. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) I already said it. Were done. We cant rely on the offense to bail us out game after game like earlier in the year. Our pitching is OK at best, but there are way better pitching staffs out there right now, unfortunately, the Tigers staff is one of them. We cant keep pace and give games away, which they refuse to do. We cannot win with ERAs in the 5's. Yeah, sounds "OFF THE WALL", but we wont/cant win. Whats important is that the SOX acknowledge this and make the necessary moves in the offseason to get stronger, because the Tiggers will ALSO be trying to get stronger now. I agree. Contreras is a keeper. Garcia is certainly on the downside and won't draw much in a trade. Buehrle's option will probably have to be picked up -- unless he pitches with a 12.00 ERA the last two months. Garland probably has to be kept because we need innings and his contract is good for two more years. Vaz has to go. Too inconsistent -- although I don't think you can get much for him. BMac moves into the rotation. And then we gotta find another starter. This staff has lots of miles on the odometer and is awfully pricey. Time to retool the starters because I don't think they're going to get it done this year. Haven't seen any evidence of consistency yet. We should have won all six games on this trip so far -- and needed to to push back into the race. The schedule the next two weeks or so is brutal. We'll know tons by then.
  22. And Phillips?
  23. couple of questions: Is Heath Phillips worth any kind of look? His numbers have been pretty nice all year. And I see that Baseball America says Broadway has the best curveball in the Southern League. Can we expect to see him next season -- especially if our current starters continue to labor?
  24. bad night for us. Boston wins on a miracle rally. Detroit pulls ahead in the late innings and wins. we spit the bit against the worst team in the league and make Teahen look like George Brett. it's early August and we have four starters with ERAs at or above 5. We are who we are -- and this year we simply might not be good enough. Sad, but true.
  25. any official word on Paulie? With an off day tomorrow, I expect him to rest. But Hudson being a right-hander, I'm hopeful Thome can DH. We definitely need to break the pattern of winning the first two games and then not finishing off the sweep. Especially with the Twinkies already taking an L.
