  1. Just wondering how badly folks would have fried BA if he had slipped and lost a killer routine fly ball the way Granderson did last night, especially if he had one hit in the WS. and what about Pods? What if he had made that play that Monroe made, slow start, bad route? He'd have to go into witness protection with Bartman. Thoughts?
  2. Joe torre almost got fired for losing three straight to these guys. they did sweep Oakland. Can't explain how the Cardinals the world series. But they will be one of the absolute worst World Series winners ever.
  3. 1 -- make their pitchers field the ball. 2 -- throw Curtis Granderson nothing but breaking balls. 3 -- take at least one strike, if not two, against Joel Zumaya. 4 -- put extra water in the outfield. 5 -- empty all the pine tar buckets on the nights Kenny Rogers pitches.
  4. does anybody know if this is official, or just radio gossip? has an announcement been made?
  5. considering the state of our system, take what we can get.
  6. another vote for Haeger in the pen. he should be able to pitch back to back days. can handle long relief. potential to give us flexibility and durability
  7. indeed. came cheap. If he can help in the pen at a low salary in 2008 or 2009, all the better. hopefully he's a later bloomer. We don't seem to have many more power arms in our system.
  8. Hooray!!!! Finally some good news about one of our guys in the AFL. Might be a power arm for the bullpen by July. Who knows? This was from Baseball America's Arizona Fall League notebook today. SLEEPER OF THE DAY: This might come as somewhat of a surprise, but White Sox righthander Dewon Day earns our first Sleeper of the Day award in the AFL. Day, a 26th-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2002 who was then taken by Chicago in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft last year, has been opening eyes of scouts early in the Fall League. The 26-year-old righthander was a two-way player in college at Jackson State and later Southern, where he played with Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks. He's focused only on pitching as a pro, and he's starting to put his arm strength to good use. Day shows good late life on his 90-96 mph sinking fastball, and is commanding his 83-86 mph slider with plus tilt and depth. In six innings for Scottsdale, Day is 0-0, 4.26 with nine strikeouts. "He'll hit 88 (mph) with the slider at times and he’s letting it all hang out," a scout from an American League club said. "He gave up three runs in his last start, but that was pitch selection more than pure stuff. The stuff is there, he's repeating well--which is the biggest thing for him--and locating with his fastball which makes his slider look that much better." Day went 1-4, 3.40 with a 63-21 strikeout-walk ratio in 48 innings at high Class A Winston-Salem during the regular season.
  9. If you like seeing at least one guy thrown out at home by 20 feet every week, Joey is your guy.
  10. I think our prospects from High A on down are pretty much worthless. Baseball America doesn't like our guys at all.
  11. let's not forget trading away Brian Downing. Or Goose Gossage. Or Terry Forster. Or Bobby Bonilla for Jose DeLeon. Or Don Buford. we've made a bunch of bad trades -- like most teams. trading Forster and Gossage to the Pirages for Richie Zisk and Silvio Martinez pretty bad. trading Looie Aparicio and Al Smth to Balty for Hansen, Ward, Nicholson and Wilhelm was questionable.
  12. can't trade your best outfielder who is making $6 million when you have nothing but ????????????? in the other outfield spots. But I'd love to see the Sox bring ARow back. He's the guy we missed in the clubhouse and dugout most, in my opinion.
  13. must be more to this story. guy was voted best pitcher in the International League. He's left handed. Below average lefties last forever. but never a whisper all season about bringing him up. not even for September. my guess is they've looked at him, decided he's not a big league prospect because he doesn't have any plus pitches. wish somebody would explain what the problem is.
  14. this is beyon cheesy, embarrassing.
  15. jose, jose, jose 1 -- oldest guy in the group,. 2 -- not very good in the second half. 3 -- value will never be higher. 4 -- starting to break down physically.
  16. sorry. I'm not on the Surfer Dude bandwagon in CF. don't see him having any plus offensive tools. Modest power, not a base stealer. he's a solid fielder, but he didn't blow me away with his range or arm. If we can trade him for a SS or a starter, I'm all for it. BA just doesn't play with enough urgency for me -- and Ozzie certainly doesn't seem to love the guy either.
  17. What did our best lineup do against the Twinkies in the nine games prior to this series? WEnt 2-7. we didn't give the Twinkies anything. they took it from us.
  18. make 2007 the Year of the Cat. Grinder. Left-handed hitter. doesn't overswing. has usually played well against us. bring him on.
  19. bobby -- and all our pitchers -- need a good physical. a little time off and an even better conditioning program.
  20. think how we'd all be pacing if this game meant something. might be one or two more folks on the site, too
  21. bobby's got problems. we got problems next season if he ain't right
  22. my sense is the last two drafts have been pretty lame. we still haven't developed a decent middle infielder in a long, long time (Durham?) nothing as SS now that Valido has bombed. i'm concerned because we had four teams that finished last in its league in last one-half of the season standings. Kannapolis was the worst team in the Sally League in a decade.
  23. very simple: Magglio He was a helluva player for the White Sox. too bad he went with Boras. We're better off with Dye. But he overcame some injuries and I wish him the best in the post-season. Plus, Leyland is another former Sox guy.
  24. Cardinals would love Buehrle. Dave Duncan believes he can fix what ails him. They don't have a lefty because Mulder is out the door. And they know Buehrle wants to be a Cardinal. Problem is, Cardinals don't have jack to offer. Reyes? He's had health issues. Wainright? Please Eckstein? Maybe if he's packaged with several others.
  25. Boone Logan was certainly Travis Hafner's favorite Sox pitcher. That was the first avoidable loss of the season. We had a few of those.
