  1. Yeah, it's unlikely. That said, necessity is the mother of invention. The Sox are so short in starter depth that there are going to be a bunch of spot starts/bullpen days. Even if they stay relatively healthy, Davis Martin is in line to make 10+ starts. If he makes the team, I think they would give a couple of short starts to Avila. I could see Crochet getting Kopech ala 2021 4 and 5 inning starts. Who else is gonna take the starts? Stiever? Bilous? Burke? On the Sox site, they're talking up Dominguez. I mean, at this point never say never about anyone.
  2. Agreed. The service time obsession for a latter half of the Top 100 prospect who will be 31 in his first free agent year is misplaced. In addition to being ethically dubious, gaming the system over Colas's service time hurts you in 2023, which is supposed to be a contending year, to maybe help you in 2030, by which time the current core will all be gone.
  3. You can't leave the bench with 3 players anyway. Rules say 13 pitchers, 13 position players. 6 man rotation means a 7 man pen, which could work.
  4. Eloy played right a lot in the minors. Even if he starts taking better routes, he does not have the arm for it. Let’s hope this is a motivational tool to get Eloy to stay in shape. With no Abreu, this lineup needs like 550 PA from Eloy.
  5. They are moving Mr. Chisholm to centerfield. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/marlins-to-move-jazz-chisholm-to-center-field.html
  6. I thought the return for Lopez was light for the Marlins. I get it, 3 years of control vs. 2, injury history, and Arraez is a batting champ, but he has no power and no defensive position. I like the trade for Minny.
  7. Jean Segura's bat at 3b in that park? Good luck!
  8. That’s disingenuous. I opposed getting Segura for Kimbrel (had no idea they were looking at Pollock) and I was not in favor of signing him, but Segura missed over a third of the season after getting hurt on a bunt. He’s better than Harrison.
  9. From 1990 to 2020, Sox are 10th, about average in international signings WAR. https://www.thegoodphight.com/2020/3/12/21175355/thirty-years-war-each-teams-international-signings That includes the period of all their troubles. I think their Latin operation is on the upswing. The real problem is poor drafting during the rebuild.
  10. Eh, the ups and downs are part of life. There’s a reason why people identify with Charlie Brown and why the Fat Elvis stamp beat the Skinny Elvis. Being a front runner is not all it’s cracked up to be. During the Bulls 6 Championships, people started to get bored. Plus, I can always turn off the TV and go for a walk.
  11. $10 mil?! Hendricks is a bargain.
  12. I think we may be seeing a valuation change due to the elimination of the shift. Teoscar Hernandez, Gurriel, and Moreno all hit RH. The two OF are not great out there. Varsho hits LH and gives you plus D. I understand ex as calypso what the Jays are thinking.
  13. Thar’s gold in them thar hills.
  14. Maybe. I think Moreno is overrated due to positional scarcity. I may think that, in part, because of the way Kirk murders us. Of those 3, Moreno is the one I would have dealt too.
  15. Are you Sosa > Popeye? I have a hard time deciding that one myself. Popeye's second half surge caught my attention, and I like the aggression with which he plays. I think both end up at 2b (although Sosa could also play 3b). Discounting the fact that Ramos could end up at 2b, if you had to keep one and trade the other, who would you pick?
  16. Remember Ramos was 1 on this last year ahead of Colas and Montgomery. Always a contrarian. Saying Colas is a platoon player is just lazy.
  17. I would believe someone would take a shot at him until I imagine the press conference. What GM is gonna sit at a table a tell the world “This is our guy”? Also, I imagine there are players who simply won’t play with him.
  18. Wow. $36 mil guarantee to a guy who hasn’t played in a year and wasn’t all that good when he last played. I can see why the Sox went longer term for lower AAV. But it is debatable.
  19. I feel ya. I just think that Ecsobar is overpaid, average on offense, below average D at 2b. If they're going to spend money, I hope it's not on him.
  20. McClure needed the change of scenery. Hopefully a good trade for both teams.
  21. Why is Escobar in all these rumors? Sox could have gotten him from the Brewers, but they didn't like the medicals. I doubt 18 months later, he's suddenly been healed.
  22. Sox roster now at 39, no one has to be on the way out. They won't have to add any of the NRI's, including Colas, until after ST. This is essentially a free look.
