  1. For sure they picked up his option. My point is, if Segura is the best you can do, that was a very bad decision.
  2. I just don’t get why you take the risk to pick up the option if what you get back is another bad contract on a low upside guy who’s on the down slope of his career. Nonzero chance that Segura’s decline becomes steep in the next year. Just don’t pick up the option and use the money to sign a second baseman. I hope the Sox are smarter than this.
  3. Is that true? I vaguely remember him hitting for average at Great Falls. But that was a good place to hit.
  4. Doesn’t surprise me, but I will agree that Rodon is hard to value going forward. Personally, $18.4 million for 133 innings is better than $16 million for like 70, but what do I know?
  5. I feel like in every trade Sox need to get back pitching depth. If they got some kind of Lambert/Pilkington type, I’d be satisfied.
  6. Ouch. Rite of passage these days for hard throwing guys.
  7. I would be way more likely to give Rodon a QO than to pick up Kimbrel's option. Get rid of Kimbrel and Hernandez, that more than pays for Rodon even if he accepts. Boras clients rarely accept the QO, so I would definitely factor that in. Of course, I did not like the Kimbrel trade on the day it was made. (Or the Hernandez trade for that matter.) But it never occurred to me that it would turn out as bad as it turned out to be. Kimbrel leaves a bad taste in the mouth. They should be done with him.
  8. I agree that Eloy has to get it turned around for the Sox to reach their potential. I am not quite as optimistic on Vaughn. I believe he starts the year in AAA because Sheets hits lefthanded. Suddenly, he has a ton of competition in rightfield, first base, third base, and even second base from other right-handed hitters like Burger, Cespedes, Romy Gonzalez, Yolbert Sanchez, and by the second half of next year, possibly Jose Rodriguez. I think he has the highest upside of those guys, but I think he'll have to close some holes, especially against righthanders' sliders, at AAA. As far as Robert, he hit .340. I am fine with him sticking pretty close to this approach.
  9. Only two Sox players in action tonight: Johan Dominguez is the starting pitcher and Yoelqui Cespedes is the leftfielder. He is 0-1 with an rbi.
  10. I live in NYC. Many of my friends and coworkers are Mets fans. They haaaaaaaaaate Conforto. They claim he is their least clutch player. And he’s gonna be expensive.
  11. Please no Kimbrel. Please no Kimbrel. Please no Kimbrel.
  12. You are exactly right. Only 2 hours to go!
  13. Ugh. Eloy is just not right.
  14. Ha ha. This strike zone makes no sense
  15. To be fair, I don’t think anyone imagined Vaughn would suck to this extent. But yeah, tying up all your trade assets in a very volatile reliever even by relief pitcher standards maybe was pretty dumb.
  16. I support moving Grandal down a spot, but my line up for this game and next year is some version of 1. TA 2. Moncada 3. Robert 4. Abreu 5. Grandal 6. Eloy 7. Sheets/Vaughn 8. Engel 9. Leury
  17. I'm glad it's Cease going tonight. If he's going to be a core part of the rotation, you have to see if he can get his head straight against good teams. Otherwise, you should get something for him. The Sox aren't going to blow it up no matter what happens moving forward, so I'm rooting for Cease to take a step forward and get a W.
  18. Man, that really turned, didn’t it?
  19. And even that joy is ripped from me as the Red Sox have roared back into this thing.
  20. How pathetic am I? The Red Sox face-planting is cheering me up a little.
