QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) But there is KW saying the team bonded in their support of him against KW. If it was players who drove KW to this, that's another lie. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:15 PM) Could it be possible that a few of the guys on the team could have expressed their concern to KW of the kid being there but never openly with other players because...I dont know...maybe they didnt want to be considered the guy b****ing about something "small" with one of the nice guys on the team?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) It is not clear players have an issue with him. The facts seem to indicate the opposite. It is extremely clear, and for somebody who is usually so good at reading between the lines I wouldn't expect you to think KW did this just because he felt like it.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) ? Is it the athletes misunderstanding their own industry, or the outsiders misunderstanding it? Most athletes don't have their children around constantly. This isn't some industry-wide thing. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) And that shows the difference between claiming you're a good father and actually being a good father. A good father would say what he wants to say behind closed doors and keep his kid out of the controversy. And to be fair, I don't think LaRoche wanted this to become the firestorm it has. I think he played the victim to his family and friends and it leaked through them to that Pittsburgh reporter yesterday. But he certainly hasn't done anything to calm it down and in fact seems to enjoy this persecution complex, judging by his company's twitter feed.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) He did go somewhere else. Its not like he's suing them. No, but he started a war of public opinion with his hashtag activism, with his son who he loves so much at the center of the controversy.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Also doesn't do errands, clean up and help out. It is strange the team reaction is so strong when this LaRoche kid was nothing but a pain in the ass. Why didn't you tell us what a nuisance Drake LaRoche was last season? Why isn't everyone saying what an idiot Chris Sale is for being pissed off about it? What don't you understand about this?? A kid can be an awesome kid and you still might not want him around while you're doing your job all the time. Clearly at least some players on the White Sox feel that way. Frankly we've known Chris Sale is an idiot for quite some time.

QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) Kyle Long posted similar s*** yesterday like the kid was being banned for good This is what's getting me the most. Are all of these athletes too stupid to understand gray areas? The guy can still see his f***ing son every day after work, like 99.9% of the people in the world with children and a job.

QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Most people in this world would say that when a deal is made, a deal is made. If one party develops a problem with it, they have to either continue to honor it despite their problems or renegotiate it with the other party. They don't just weasel out of it. Assuming the existence of this deal, isn't that exactly what the Sox did? The problem developed, they asked LaRoche to cut back (twice), and HE retired. They didn't weasel out of anything.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) Have you noticed that Kaplan did a complete about face? There are 2 or 3 videos on CSN, in which he is very vehemently critical of La Roche, and supportive of management. I wonder what caused the change of view? David Kaplan @thekapman 12h12 hours ago @BrianBilek_ I hadn't spoken to a phenomenal source yet. Now I have.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) Again, if the kid bothers someone that much, then why is it OK for that person to be bothered 3 days a week? Are you familiar with the concept of moderation? If so, there's no reason to keep arguing about this.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) I'm not really sure I agree that Ventura should have handled it. It sounds like some of the players are upset with KW over the decision, and I'd rather they were angry with Kenny than with Robin. Beat me to it. This is how I see it.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) I completely 100% agree with this take on the situation. Thank you. And I'll also add that Drake is probably crying 24 hours a day. I know I would be if I was 14 at the center of a giant sports controversy and my dad had given up millions of dollars because of me. I doubt Adam LaRoche intended for that consequence, but it started with his silly decision to quit over a very reasonable request.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Can someone give me a summary of the past 200 or so posts? Thanks in advance. Press is largely on the Sox' side, Dick Allen argues that if it's not okay for the kid to be there all the time it shouldn't be okay any of the time, Major League reference.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) "He would've never signed with the White Sox had they not agreed that it was fine for Drake to be there. Someone either wasn't truthful or changed the rules." bmags had the best theory on this earlier - the Sox didn't understand the depth of what they were getting into.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Remember, Chemistry doesn't mean anything right? If this is directed at me, go re-read where I literally said the opposite of that.

My philosophy is not to hate Sox players just because they perform badly. They have to do something stupid off the field. Well congrats to Adam Laroche. You've punched your ticket. KW asked him to tone it down with the kid a week ago, he asked him again a couple days ago, so LaRoche quits, complains to all the idiots in his life that the Sox are persecuting him, and it leaks out. He has his stupid meat company retweeting #FamilyFirst nonsense as if the Sox told him he couldn't see his kid again for 8 months. THEY JUST TOLD YOU TO DIAL IT BACK, DUMMY. Good riddance. He obviously didn't want to be a good player for this team. F*** off forever, dude.

I bet this is Cat Latos' fault.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) From a Boston writer: Jay Kenney @RealJayKenney 5h5 hours ago Boston, MA Rumblings today that Hanley Ramirez could be sent to the Chicago White Sox. Nothing concrete though Anybody know how many kids Hanley has?

Scot Gregor @scotgregor 6m6 minutes ago Just heard back from Kenny Williams...nothing in LaRoche's contract about son Drake being allowed in clubhouse every day. #WhiteSox Damage Control Eff You KW is hilarious.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) Wow, so maybe LaRoche wasn't doing what they asked: Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane Ken Williams said he first talked to Adam LaRoche about cutting back on Drake's time in clubhouse a week ago, then again Sunday He better stay outta White Sox Business. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) I'm going to take this a step further. I'm actually proud of the Sox for knowing they were going to take a PR hit for this, and still did it. This didn't start with Williams or Rick. This was brought to their attention by players, there is no doubt in my mind. And I'm sure LaRoche knew that, which I'm sure was part of his decision to walk away, that has to be tough to walk back into that clubhouse knowing players had an issue with him bringing his son in the clubhouse. Kenny took the bullet, and the players have the locker room they want. I agree 100%.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) I don't know. Even is he is a great kid I don't think I would want a 14 year old around all the time. I would feel like I would have to watch what I do or say all the time because I wouldn't want to expose a 14 year old to anything he shouldn't be exposed to. (foul language, dirty jokes, whatever it may be) Exactly.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) This spring he has been around all the time, but LaRoche has been hurt and unable to do anything anyway. The article I linked stated he had limited access during the season, and he played on a couple of teams so he wasn't around every game. This is just KW being KW. It shouldn't have been a surprise Drake LaRoche would be at spring training daily. He was last year as well. In the article it said LaRoche's wife and daughter don't come to AZ until about halfway through spring training. KW should have said something before spring training started. That's all I'm saying. It's obvious he is frustrated by LaRoche's performance/injury/whatever, and he took it out on the kid. I don't think it makes the White Sox evil at all. I do think it shows how petty KW can be. I don't think that's obvious at all. It's more likely that he heard complaints from multiple players.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) He didn't call the White Sox evil. The guy loves his son so much he walked away from $13 million in 6 months to be able to spend more time with him. If more fathers had a fraction of that desire to be with their kids, the world would be a much better place. I just think it is bad to change the policy in the middle of spring training. You gave the kid a locker and a uniform, now you say he can't come in? Unless he did something dreadful, that seems to me to be a bit petty, and using the kid to try to punish or whatever to LaRoche is weak. From the articles I linked, the kid is supposed to be a real good kid who knew his place, and he wasn't in the clubhouse and on the field all the time. He was limited. As I stated, the new policy is fine, but if it was used as some sort of weapon against LaRoche, that, IMO, is wrong. LaRoche walked away. Good for him. I think most would not. Sounds like Drake's presence was no longer limited, according to KW today. He didn't call the Sox evil but he's clearly telling his friends they're persecuting him or some nonsense. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:34 PM) Ozzie @oguillenjr 1m1 minute ago @Ken_Rosenthal what a joke kids were around in 2005. Kids in club house are great. Excuses lol what ever still will win 80 games lol Thank god we got his opinion.
