Internal alternatives to Avisail Garcia
shysocks replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) No, I was referencing the Ishikawa references from page 1. I don't know if he'd really hit RHP better than Avi. There's a reason the guy averages about 50 plate appearances per season since 2012. Because nobody puts up with his suck the way the Sox do with Avi. No guarantees about Ishikawa though, I'll give you that. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) it might have been a "handshake" agreement they had on draft day. I really have no idea though Rabbit might be able to fill us in more. Think that's the general assumption. Could also just be the Sox were comparatively less concerned about Super 2 than just hitting a year of service time with him.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) page 1 What does this mean? Are you pointing out that you would prefer Coats? That's fine, but you asked why the Ishikawa love and I answered that his limited appeal is he hits RHP better than our alternatives. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) I don't get the Ishikawa love. Avi is a better hitter. There's no Ishikawa "love." But look up their lefty/righty splits. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) Out of curiosity, when was the last big trade made during the second week of April in MLB? Go to http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/tra...date=2016-04-12, cycle through days and ctrl+F for "trade" to find historical trades by calendar day. Don't have time to search the whole month or anything, but the first couple of days haven't exactly revealed any league-altering moves. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) That means we're on pace to shatter our wins record as well. Pretty amazing how many teams are gonna win 110 games when you think about it. What a year this'll be.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) He's had 28 plate appearances. Let's give him a little more time. His BABIP is an entirely unsustainable .167. If it were the .320 mark he hit last year he would have a .280 batting average right now and we wouldn't be having this conversation. So far this year, albeit a small sample size, his FB% is up, his pull % is up, BB rate is up, K rate is down, pitches per plate appearance is up and his contact rate is up. All positive signs. Let's at least give him a few weeks before we try to magically save our season by calling up the likes of Travis Ishikawa or Jason Coats. Yeah I'd still want to replace him. -
You can't fault the Sox for not putting the LaRoche money to immediate use. It was an unusual situation and we don't want some panic move.

The sooner we stop wasting AB's on Avi, the better. That means making an acquisition, because the other options right now aren't attractive either. If we contend I'm hopeful Hahn will do something. For now, Ishikawa belongs on the roster and one of Sands or Avi belongs in the minors. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) What is wrong with him? I really need the Sox to call him up at some point. ...said no one ever.

Can we just be done with Avi? Please? Please can it just end? He's not good and he's never gonna be good, and we all know it. I'll take anybody else. -

I can't imagine a scenario where it would be a good idea to give Danks a qualifying offer. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) So I switched over to ESPN2 (which had a great broadcast, wow, was really impressed) but did Hawk have any more awful moments last night? I'll just say that if we can get through one game this year without him mentioning the Royals, I'll call it a victory. -
The alarm sound starting at 0:56 and lasting thirty seconds was super obnoxious. Other than that I have no complaints.

It's only three games but fans are ready to make a goat out of Melky, and he's been tough to watch. Just weak grounder after weak grounder. -
Jose Fernandez has struck out 9 of the 14 Tigers he's faced today and is trailing 2-0 in the 4th.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Story with another homer. Boy those Rockies sure can't hit homers on the road...oh wait This is the second time you've brought this up with the apparent intention of making a point. Who are you arguing with and how did they offend you? Is this because you want Cargo? In the last five seasons the Rockies have hit 42% of their home runs on the road, compared to the MLB average of 49.9%. During that time they're 20th in baseball in homers on the road, and 4th at home. They're 27th in SLG% on the road and 1st at home. They've earned their reputation for hitting better at Coors.
